If you think Celine would have ever been willing to kill Rumi then we did not watch the same fucking movie because no the fuck she could not. Celine couldn't bring herself to kill Rumi. Even if she didn't love Rumi in the way she needed, she still cared about her enough that she couldn't bear to kill her for fuck's sake.

Look y'all, this reveal means so much to me. So many times in movies these days there are big reveals for the audience’s benefit that mean absolutely nothing in the context of the story or to the characters in it. I’m talking the Thanos cameo in the Avengers’ stinger, I’m talking Benedict CumberKhan in Star Trek, I’m talking about every hackneyed “This character is actually this other character” when in universe nobody knows nor cares about their true identity.

But here? This reveal? This is a Big Reveal for us, Peter B Parker, and Miles, all on different levels. We and Peter both know Doc Ock is a portly dude, not a woman. We know the name Octavius… Otto Octavius. But when she says her name is Olivia Octavius we’re clued in to the fact that Doctor Octopus is a woman in this universe. And she has Peter captive.

Miles, if he was paying attention in science class earlier in the movie, would have known her name was Olivia Octavius, but that doesn’t mean anything to him, why would it? Liv has apparently been very good about keeping her supervillainy a secret. She’s in educational videos shown in high-schools. So to Miles, the reveal here is this scientist lady, who he knew enough about to know was the head scientist at Alchemax, is a supervillain. He gets the reveal a second or two after Peter.

And the movie? It was dropping hints the entire time, confident in our expectations blinding is to the truth. Olivia’s name was partially visible when Miles got to science class. Her glasses are octagonal. The lights in her lab are octagonal. We know she’s working with the Kingpin. Why wouldn’t she be a supervillain? Because she’s hot? Hell, Peter even says he needs to reexamine his internal biases. Maybe he was telling us that we should too.

It’s a reveal for us, and for our heroes. It means something, both in-universe and out. And that makes it infinitely better than other similar reveals.

Controversial take some of u will get defensive at, but there IS a right way to give advice (in my opinion). I recently discovered this when I made friends with my former bar manager, a guy in his 50s whom I’m literally in love with (platonically lol). I frequently ask him for advice, and he doles it out to me freely, but he’s also always like “you have it in you to figure this out.” He’s always like “you don’t need me for this; you have it in you.” He’s always reminding me that I have the capacity and experience and emotional intelligence to work through even the toughest weeds. That’s the way to give advice. If you’re not bolstering your friend’s confidence, if you’re not inquiring about their own thought process, if you’re just caustically cutting them off with advice every single time, I’m sorry but to me that’s doing it wrong.

The comparison to Mother Gothel always infuriates me because Celine is not remotely similar to mother gothel for fuck's sake. Just because they're both... less-than-stellar adoptive mother figures doesn't mean Celine is anywhere near the level of deliberate manipulative villainy that Gothel was???

Mother Gothel saw Rapunzel as a possession to hoard and all her manipulations were for selfish reasons to preserve her youth, regardless of what Rapunzel might've wanted. Mother Gothel purposely manipulated and belittled and lied to and gaslit Rapunzel to convince her to stay in the tower and stay with the 'mother' that only wanted her for her magic hair. Gothel was going to lock Rapunzel away and hold her hostage for her whole life just so Gothel could control her and have access to said magic hair. Lest we forget Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel as a baby to have access to her magic hair?

To compare Celine to Mother Gothel The Manipulative Selfish Villainous Mom Figure when Celine is nothing of the sort! Celine's flaws and shortcomings and harm caused were all based on her running on flawed information. Celine genuinely did think she was doing the right thing. That she was helping. Her goals were altruistic; for the greater good. Gothel's goals were purely selfish.

The mantra Celine ingrained in Huntrix clearly was ingrained in herself too. Your faults and fears must never be seen. Celine clung to what she thought she knew, even when it hurt her and her proteges in the long run.

Ultimately even if Celine couldn't love Rumi in the way she needed most, she still did love Rumi in her own way. She loved her enough to put her principles and everything she thought she knew aside to raise a demonic child. She loved Rumi so much that she chose Rumi over the Honmoon. Celine would never kill Rumi. Anyone who thinks she could kill Rumi did not watch the same fucking movie because she patently could not bring herself to hurt Rumi like that.

I knoooow Celine must be shaken to her core that Rumi got to the point of asking her own adoptive mother to kill her. Shaken and harrowed that the belief system she clung to and taught to Rumi actually hurt the person she cared about most. You don't just bounce back from your daughter that you care about begging you to kill her.

Do you ever think about how Rumi and Mira and Zoey at the end are all happy and reunited together and singing about not being alone and being reunited at each other's sides but Celine was left alone at the Tree with her entire worldview unraveling around her after her own daughter asked her to kill her. That Celine surely must be mentally spiraling after all of that. Celine who has lived her own tragedy and horror of losing the two people who mattered most to her and then having to raise a child she wasn't prepared to have all by herself. A child whose very existence goes against everything Celine knows to be right and true. And Celine chose to keep Rumi, to love Rumi, to raise Rumi in as caring a way as she could manage. And then to find out that everything she did was still not enough, she still fucked up, what she thought was good ended up hurting the child she jeopardized her entire belief system for to protect.

Do you ever think about how fucking difficult it is to choose love and care and mercy towards the very thing that goes against what you thought you knew to be good, only to find out what you thought was love still wasn't enough.

Celine is not okay after all that. Absolutely not okay. Dear gods someone send a wellness check to her because She Is Not Okay.
