i think streetcat is about wanting to live your life freely even if it comes with pain, because if it was painful then you know you truly lived, since a life free of pain and struggle or a life spent afraid of pain isnt a true life

"deny, but what's the loss to die?" while being a housecat maybe meant that the life of being trapped with the same things every single day meant that there was no point in living anymore since everything was the same? especially with being "careless and reckless with her life" as a housecat since there was no danger or excitement when trapped inside forever and she didn't like that life. And then the "satisfaction adorns and thrives through her next eight lives" as a streetcat follows up on that with a "curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back" type thing

Streets are dangerous and the signs and symbols used in the video are meant to be controlling to keep you safe but we can see Iroha dancing and jumping around during them and singing about how she cherishes the cuts and pain because pain comes with being free and that is better than being a forever curious cat stuck inside

Especially since she keeps talking about being exactly herself and exuberantly free

And then later with the "I fear it wont be long till the time calls, and when I go I wanna know that it was worth it all" and "if it hurts I know its worth it to be someone" I think its definitely about being free with your identity/life and not caring what others say even if it gets you hurt in the end because it was her own choice to be free and experience it

The new Flavor Foley song made me cry and i wanna talk about it

StreetCat really hit me especially hard, and caused a huge epiphany for me mentally so i wanted to analyze the lyrics and also theming myself woo, inspired a bit off @amtesia's post because it was very good and also the first one i read after finishing sobbing my eyes out over this song Uh it gets Mildly Personal if you read into it but eh

Starting off with the Obvious i really wanna talk about just how loud this damn song Is with its message of the price of self expression being pain. Plus the Mentions of a "Housecat" while the song itself is called Street cat. Many people often made the Connection of A sheltered person so desperate to escape their homelife they would fight tooth and nail for it. Of course this itself is really fascinating, but i feel like the blatant and absolute volume this need for pain is pushed to also speaks to how dangerous it would be to live. Even once you escape the sheltered life of being someone's pet you are still subjected to the life outside your prison.

It brings up a theme I've always found very fun, through this usage of House and Street (Sonic Discusses it alot :] though they prioritize/Explore freedom Vs happiness, particularly through Surge and Sonic which is gone into in This video and This Video). Specifically the idea of Chaos, Surviving/Expressing and Freedom over Comfortability/Conformity Order and Safety.

Lets start with the idea of Order & Chaos

The song all but talks about order, really only Showing the aftermath of it and effects of it mentally. It mostly portrays this idea of the house cat life in past tense, or visually through the constant signs. It's Real case of pulling stuff from what is said through the description of the New life Chaos brought. Chaos and Freedom brought a VERY Dangerous life. One where you knew you would die possibly any moment fighting on the streets for it. So to Defy order was to directly fighting back against the life given to you. An order set to keep you safe, which provides you with the ultimate choice the song explores.

You or Your Safety

There's also the notable Visual aspect of Nekomura themself is frequently seen as rather, well, playfull. Not necessarily vicious or dangerous. But instead constantly surrounded by caution signs, Boxxed in. With the Album art even Showing Broken traffic lights over Nekomura. All of this is leading us into the obscene usage of Traffic, There's frequent talk of glowing headlights with this new life that's represented through blasting past traffic laws, signs. The new life hurts, and is incredibly hard to maintain, But you can be proud that its yours. You can Drive by into a damn crash if you want and avoid the restrictions your disobeying. Meaning you have to fight tooth and nail for. It feels very Reminiscent of someone needing to remind themselves they are alive. With the Schrodinger's Cat adding an air of Uncertainty to it, Disobeying Caution wouldn't necessarily mean an instant game over. After all, your just being Careless, not suicidal. Even if there's a chance of those glowing headlights hitting. You're taking a chance on yourself by going against things meant for your safety. it almost feels like a metaphor for what its like living sheltered not out of necessity but, fear that the ones you love will hurt, and certainty its a bad idea but. You won't know until you see for yourself and take that painful gamble. "What's the Loss to Yearn?"

This also points out the important distinction that again, this is a seek for Freedom among restrictions. That their life is theirs not through death, or Pain but really, Adrenaline and Expression. It's not that the pain itself is exactly the goal, the goal is freedom, identity and passion. Vulnerability and standing in the spotlight of a near disaster. Pain is merely a reminder of what your gaining "The joy of feeling pain, OF KNOWING THAT THERES MORE TO GAIN" But this isn't to say that pain isn't devoid of it. Nekomura in Streetcat, frankly does not look viscious, As violent as the lyrics themselves are. The visuals remain almost cute, soft and rather void of injury safe for the bandage. which is proudly pulled off to Show A Feline eye. Animalistic in nature and displayed on full to represent how pain is their identity. (I DIDNT POINT THIS OUT THIS WAS AMTESIA) It's a way to feel like you ripped the bandage off from your sheltered life style. That you still have scars, ugly bits, that you weren't Declawed and are unapologetic about your own autonomy. Uh rq bdsm mention fo this sect skip if my fellow aces/acespecs dont like suggestive talk (EDIT CAUSE I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE: I also wanna mention that the pain aspect of it is also read into as a form of connection, Masochism connotations are here of course. But the song is also more deeper than that and has a lot about, Specifically the vulnerability aspect of it. How the Rush from the pain also puts an emphasis on acceptance and the idea that this form of affection is restricted, or possibly queer. So, instead of making the love or form of connection through pain and blood more tolerable and acceptable. You make it more passionate by making the rushing thrill of fighting for your love more literal.)

The song itself is about Living and fighting for a life that's yours, Unapologetically. Touching on how even things that initially meant to keep you safe can Restrict you, and maybe even hurt you to go against. How it's worth the pain it is to take a risk and live without needing a reminder that you're alive, Or without a reminder that you're doing a good job. Because so long as you're happy and you are unapologetically yourself, you'll live.

so this is the bit where i get a bit personal cause, without going into to much, I really needed to hear this song. I'm sure a lot of other people did as well, because It's come to me at a time where i feel very unseen, unheard, ignored and boxed in. Like I'll never really be enough or sufficient to make people happy nevertheless conform or fit into a society. Often times its hard to feel alive or in your own body for many Trans people, or Plural people and even more often, its Difficult to express or feel adequate as A Neurodivergent or Queer person. Like you have to mask yourself, dodge around signs, Lights, rules and laws Meant to keep you safe. When in reality it feels wrong, Restrictive or like living as yourself is just a hassle and inconvenience to everyone around you. It's no stranger that the world today is rather, unaccepting of many different kinds of people. So the idea of a song Unapologetic and deeply aware of the pain, fear and Euphoria that comes from disobeying all of it. and living as a battered, beaten, difficult and potentially "wrong" someone. It's alot better than living as no one.

so, since this au starts at the beginning of Book 6 (the housewardens +Jamil getting shipped off to Styx), Crowley’s whereabouts are almost the same as they are in 6. he’s being held off-campus and is entirely in the dark as to what’s going on & Idia’s project

the dorms areeee not doing too good without their housewardens LMAO. their responsibilities were passed off to their vice housewardens, Kalim is struggling to keep up with Scarabia without Jamil’s help, and Diasomnia was the only dorm that wasn’t going thru it until Idia started stalking Malleus

after Malleus expressed that he thought he was being stalked, pretty much all of Silver’s time is being devoted to guarding him now alongside Lilia and Sebek. as for Savannaclaw, it’s currently being held together by Ruggie and Jack *barely.* Ruggie’s super stressed about where Leona is so he’s not really thinking about doing vice housewarden duties at the moment and Jack is picking up a lot of the slack

anyways, as for Grim… he’s also been taken by styx for Idias project. he’s currently being kept in a completely separate wing away from the other 5 subjects because he’s currently going through the beginning stages of an overblot. Idia’s keeping Grim locked up in a wing of his own so he can observe him safely without risking being killed. Idia is basically, effectively, watching him die

Ok, but can we talk the transfem Jax theory?

Like, i get the theory, it could theoretically make sense. And im not against it.

But people CAN be insecure without them needing to be trans.

There's a lot of things that Jax can be insecure of and dcared of, without him being trans.

Like, he could be scare dof people seeing the real him, without him needing to be trans.

And it ANNOYES the HELL out of me that people are all in for trnasfem Jax.

Again, i have nothing against it, but personally i just believe him to be a man with some trauma and great insecurities that made him not want other people to see the real him.

Now these are the confirmed ones for noe. And i didn't include Caine caz he's an AI and because he is not one of the human cast.

So if Jax was trasfem, wed have 4 females... And i do think that shows with a small amount of characters tend to make the amount of the gender of the characters as equals as they can

I do not think Trans femme Jax is a example of being trans for insecurities sake.

( TLDR: Trans femme jax has ALOT of merit to it and is so much more than just since "he's insecure so he must be trans." plus, saying that implies the community thinks "anyone who's insecure has to be trans" is missing a lot of writing beats in the show and a bad faith look on the community that found and analyzed things supporting it. and does have an argument for why his fears relate to gender in someway. and i feel like implying that a very compelling argument for Trans femme representation is instantly less compelling than a cis man with trauma is incredibly limiting to trans stories and could be reminiscent of Transmisogyny )

Before I propose a counterargument to this I want to mention a few things

I'm not writing all of this juuuust in response to this specific post lol. i've seen a few like this, as this was one of the more inoffensive/passive ones i kinda wanna put this out here for anyone as i feel this topic is close to me being Nonbinary. (sorry for taking over the post a bit tho)

I also want to emphasize that I am not saying that this argument, or anyone who has this argument is transphobic. In fact it is WILD to claim anyone's transphobic over any one simple action unless that action is actively malicious, done through blissfull ignorance, a pattern of behavior etc. if people don't like a trans head cannon That's totally fine!!! I just don't want analysis and symbolism that's clearly there to be dismissed as inherently less compelling especially when transmisogyny especially is so prominent in many spaces.

I am of course not at all discouraging these feelings cause I totally understand how frustrating it can be when a character is head cannoned as Trans purely because of insecurities that are even unrelated to gender. and I have 100% seen cases of this before. One example of this (ironically) is Transmasc Jax (See this post for why I don't think it's supported in anything beyond a head cannon.) In fact, I can think of many other examples of trans hcs that contradict the intended narrative, paint other characters as transphobic in the context of it, or feel deeply sexist and contribute to stereotypes of FTM MTF (Transmasc Dipper, Trans, Transmasc Rainbow Dash, Transfemme Dave Strider, Genderfluid Camilo, Transfemme Luisa, Transmasc Angeldust ).

I think that putting Transfemme Jax being cannon under the idea and argument "just because Jax is Insecure he must Trans and its the only reason why" is a very flawed way of looking at it, and not what it is meant to be. Especially considering it minimizes the genuine subtext and analysis that was put into proposing Jax as Trans femme. also this idea, that stories cannot contain a Trans femme individual who struggles with vulnerability, because the idea he's just a cis man is more comfortable. and a primarily women lead cast being less likely and therefore makes trans Jax less likely iss..

Mildly childish and as seen here. Goose made a joke at the majority female cast herself sooo she probably doesn't care. It could also accidentally (please note I said could accidentally) be very detrimental to the trans femme community and contribute to transmisogyny. I want to reiterate again, i will never call anyone on the internet a fuckin transphobe for venting out aggressions, or saying a popular take is wrong and my take is right. I 100% Recognize this was a post made as a rant (sorry if this rant back is a lot) and really did not at all have that much thought put into it and i don't want to convince anyone or silence anyone who doesn't personally believe in trans femme jax but, It's also important to recognize when something at least has dimension and is supported/liked for a reason. A lot of people dug through subtext and engaged with Jax's character on a deeply personal level to make an argument for this, and i feel like that should be acknowledged

(quick thing before i say all this: my emphasis of femininity being associated with high emotions and possible exposure is meant to reflect how It's seen/viewed in the eyes of these gender roles, I'm not saying that is objectively correct)

It's a very objectively well done argument that supports the themes and overall messages of TADC. Saying that he could be afraid/scared of anything, directly ignores why his complex and trauma is objectively tied to his gender. Jax presents himself under the label of The Funny One, and is putting on a facade as a coping mechanism, this to me is directly tied to the idea of toxic masculinity. Notice how he specifically targets the female characters, or just how he interacts with Gangle and Ragatha. Gangle is inarguably the most obviously emotionally vulnerable of the entire cast, She's a Creative, A Depression Allegory, Neurodivergence allegor, self expression and emotions are her deal. Meanwhile Ragatha is as many people have pointed out someone who treats everything here like its real. Gangle is literally everything Jax Despises, and shuns and Ragatha is the inverse of Jax's Mindset, embodying someone who believes everything is real.

Then there's Pomni, who pointed all of this out. That he's terrified of vulnerability, Terrified of human emotions, and he deflects, making distasteful jokes. All of It's reminiscent of modern day men who poke fun and cause harm to anyone who's slightly Effeminate, Emotional, Or Vulnerable. People who try to make others fit into society's idea of Even repressing his own Humanity, and reality through self destructive tendencies so heavily that he has to dumb himself down till he's nothing but a caricature, "There's nothing more to me, so please stop looking." The very core of Jax's fears character and "The funny one" is made by his fear of being Emasculated or effeminate, "Human" even and therefore is a product of deeply unchecked toxic masculinity. That creates a direct tie to his idea of "Fake vs Real" and his Toxic Masculinity plus fear of Femininity.

This is why i say, its annoying to say he could be scared of anything, we have been shown what he's scared of. He's scared of reality, Because otherwise he'd be exactly what he mocks, vulnerable, real, emotional. Just like Pomni, Gangle, and Ragatha. Being like "a girl" as one may use as a insult. It's seen in a purely detrimental sense, It says a lot that he never explained why he chose to stay. TELLING people his trauma is terrifying enough to him. That fear of honesty is why he's self destructive, It's why he chose that architype "The Funny One", It's why he refuses to be anymore than a Architype, why he leans SO HEAVILY into masculinity that he's misunderstanding the concept of it, yet he still makes more and more walls and boxes for himself and the others to fit in, He would rather set insane constant standards for himself, that he is "weak" as he sees it, he even would rather abstract.

Which is why people think of Trans jax. While it doesn't actively point to the idea of transness exclusively, it is a very very likely possibility and i think the story's themes do not point to the idea of Jax simply being just a cis man with Insecurities. Because they're more than insecurities, Its denial of who he is and forcing himself into a standard of a Gender, albeit a toxic ideal of that Gender. to reject what makes him human, and that humanity is always associated with women. The Bottom-line is that, He has a undeniable tie to gender within his Character regardless of him being trans. Frankly i think would be a very unique take on trans identity. Often times we do not see characters who have SUCH INTENSE trouble accepting themselves. Characters that might be too pent up or poorly taught to even consider trans identity. Characters who are doomed, and fated to potentially never even discover what it is without living by impossible standards, set by gender roles or social norms. Honestly I think back to a quote from the barbie movie in reference to it "being humans not something i need to ask for or, even want i can just... that's something i just discover i am?" sooo yea, again no one is saying it is just cus he's insecure or he could be running from anything Sorry this got so long, ngl i definitely got way off topic rambling but idk this post made me think. srry if i misinterpreted anything you said, or if i came off hostile it was not meant to be at all!! thank you for letting me reblog w/ a discussion have a nice dayyy,
