Light you fool!! all you had to do is mention charmander has a disadvantage against the first two gym leaders and struggles in Mt Moon! On the other hand, Squirtle slaughters Brock's gym and Mt Moon!

but bulbasaur—while struggling in viridian—has an advantage against both gyms AND mt moon! and even viridian isn't that bad because the bugs don't know any bug type moves! anyone who truly wants to breeze through the early game would choose bulbasaur!

All bulbasaur has to fear is the flying types in route 1; and even if you want to avoid that, squirtle would still be an overall superior choice to charmander.

L is guilty of the same sin of arrogance as Light; unable to even consider deigning to choose Bulbasaur. And Light, so blinded by pride in his knowledge of minutiae, has missed the forest for the trees and failed to point out that someone who wants an easy early game would NEVER choose a fire-type starter!
