Hello!! This one is called Lynn, but its callsign is Dolly (given to it by Drummer! thank you Drummer <3) its handler named it Lynn, so it's been going by Lynn for as long as it can remember! There are other Lynns, however! We are a "System"! This was designated by medical professionals in 2022/2023, We are uncertain of how many We are, but We suspect We are well over 200 strong! This one is a combat doll, as well as an Angel, but it was encouraged by its handler to learn entertainment as "an outlet" for its power in between deployments! It is well-versed in music theory, particularly Jazz, and plays piano and mallet percussion! It sings with the Angels on occasion :) We are encouraged to speak for the whole, but the whole doesn't share Doll experiences. However, some do! Please forgive Us if We are inconsistent with who We speak for here :(

Retail doll

Combat doll who was built for a war that never happened. Now she has to clock in for her retail job and try not to flip her shit on all the customers who give her weird looks. It’s not her fault she was built to rip tanks in half and pull damaged vehicles to safety. She didn’t ask to be this big, this intimidating, this dangerous. She’s just a sweet girl who wants to protect the people she cares about. All she wants is to find community with the other dolls like her.

She wants to feel safe and normal for once but updating your own firmware is easier said than done when your parent company liquidated their maintenance division. Now her ball joints hurt, threat alarms and maintenance reminders chime constantly in her head, and combat endorphins flood her subsystems at random.

Things are getting better as time passes, she has friends now. But they struggle the same as her and a group of dolls draws even more attention than usual. She thinks they should all run away and start their own society. Dolls are safer in numbers after all…

I constantly manipulate everyone around me by calculating what would be the nicest thing to do in any given situation, making a point of doing it when it matters the most. This is supported by subtly, casually tailoring what I talk about to the person I'm speaking to, and saying what I think they may find funny or interesting. the really sick thing is I look just like a normal person and there's no way you can tell me apart from anyone. If I weren't such a monster I would be afraid knowing people like this are out there, but I know I'm on top and have nothing to fear.

A doll that will never fight. A failure. Malfunctioning, defunded, disassembled. Disposed of.

A doll clinging to life. Some of its sensors reactivate. Moving north, in a truck full of jagged shards and dead sisters. It pries open the hatch just enough…

A doll falling. It hits the ground with a crack. Something is broken. It doesn’t know if that was bone or ceramic. It crawls out of the street, opens a gate, hides behind a fence. It should keep moving, but it’s so tired.

A gasp. The doll looks up to see a person. A shocked little girl stares down at her from the arms of a maid doll. The maid is carefully stepping back toward the house.

Signals are sent to weapons that are no longer attached. Adrenaline spikes. This is it. This is how they’ll find it.

This is how it dies. 

…

A doll getting better. It wakes up and looks down at itself, bright porcelain filling in the gaps between bulletproof ceramic, the two materials joined by gold.

A doll learning to be taken care of. The maid appears—she always moves so silently. Its sensors finally stopped reading her as an ambush a few days ago. She gestures, offering to help it out of bed.

A doll with a family. It makes its way down the stairs, still learning to take them slowly. Its young Miss runs up to it and hugs its knees, calling it by the name she gave it.

A doll named Marigold.

I imagine dolls who are artificially created would act far different to dolls that used to be- well, not people, but human

Dolls made with a soul conjured whole cloth into porcelain and plastic are more human-like- they're typically raised by people, after all.

They don't quite think the same- don't feel time the same, dont place the same inherrent value on their effort, learn some things effortlessly while being unable to understand others- they live very different lives, never sleeping, never eating- but they learn to hide all that, mask basically. Some even wish they were human, if only because everyone thinks they should.

Dolls that used to be human, though? Different beast altogether.

They're happier. They have a harder time showing it- so unfamiliar to such a rigid, heavy face and body- but they are. They left all their pain behind. Some become like one would expect- quiet, still, either contemplative or thoughtless, or domething in between. Soft. Obedient. Content.

Others are the opposite. In renouncing their humanity, they somehow become so much more lively, those empty glass eyes showing a light their human eyes never did. They work feverishly on projects for months, ramble for days, spend years setting up dates and pranks and meetups while barely homding the secret in. Decorating and modifying their chassis untill it's unrecognisable save for the unique joy in their voice.

That's the willing dolls, anyhow. People who become dolls unwillingly? With a voice that never grows hoarse, with no lungs to demand new air, they never stop screaming.

Nothing can be done for them. Their old body is dead meat. Being shown that doesnt do any good.
