For example, you want to clean your oven.

You simply go to the website and in the "Add new item" box, you type "clean the oven". You can then also use the lil chillies next to the plus to change the level of breaking-down you'd like. Next, hit the magic wand-looking button to break it down!

You can check off items as you go, and further break things down if desired!

It works on large tasks such as planning a cross-country trip, writing a book or going on vacation and smaller tasks such as cleaning an oven.

There's also tools for task time estimation, meal-prep that takes into account dietary constraints, equipment and such, and a braindump compiler.

It's available as an IOS/Android app for less than a dollar, or a free web app. I can't hype this up enough, the developers deserve so much love for this.

Yo. This is no joke. I liked the idea of it, so I spared the dollar to give it a look. I figured even if I had to make the steps myself, it would still be helpful to have a place to put them. I have to get fingerprinted for tutoring and I keep putting it off, and it's entirely because I have trouble breaking down the steps.

I set the slider to give me the second highest level of breakdown and pushed the button.

Hi, I'm a mum! Pre-pandemic, I was working over forty hours a week, and the entirety of my paycheck went to covering my kid's daycare cost. Daycare and pre school are expensive, so much so that a lot of people quite literally can't afford it, even when working full time.

Having two years of pre-k education covered is absolutely beyond helpful. Parents genuinely want to provide the very best for the kids and having early education covered can go a long way in allowing parents to do just that.

Look, I don’t have kids and I am still buried under student loans from college. I absolutely believe free college is necessary.

However.

There is decades worth of evidence that pre-K education is one of the strongest ways of giving kids enduring advantages in K-12 education. A lot of the data comes specifically out of Oklahoma, which does have voluntary universal pre-K (which makes it an excellent case study) and the research shows gains across all racial and socio-economic boundaries. That paper is from 2005. Researchers revisited the kids later to see how persistent these gains were, or if they were drowned out by all the other stuff.

Turns out, the kids who were in pre-K continued to have academic success through middle school (they hadn’t tracked through high school). And just for fun, they also did some projected adult earnings for kids who went through pre-K, as fun benefit-cost analysis of the whole thing. And it looks like the benefits skew disproportionately in favor of the more disadvantaged students.

Community college is great and should be accessible to everybody. But universal pre-K will catch more kids early on to ensure they have a better shot at finishing high school. The evidence screams that it is one of the single most-effective measures in leveling the playing field for all kids, and reducing the generations of privilege baked into the system.

It’s not a bait and switch if it’s the two years of college he previously “promised” us PLUS something new and different that is explained IN THE NEXT / SAME SENTENCE so people wouldn’t get confused and think it meant four years of college.

The wording of the tweet is a little bit bait-and-switch if you haven't been staying on top of the policy discussions, but even so: this is a really good thing, please don't dismiss all the good that this policy will do just because it's not everything you want it to be.

I feel like this is also a subtle way to encourage going to community colleges for trades rather than four year degrees, which is something that we desperately need since we basically lost most of a generation of skilled tradespeople in the push for "you have to get a four year degree to succeed"

not to mention community colleges generally have much smaller class sizes, which- at least to my understanding as someone who works in ed and went to one, though I'd encourage fact checking if you're interested- translates to a better quality of education overall for a number of reasons (more flexibility in lessons, higher participation, more attention from your teachers).

like, genuinely, going to community college even (and especially) if you plan on transferring to finish a 4-year degree is a good fucking idea.

and depending on how this policy actually covers that expense, you could also have an even greater ability to explore your interests in community college & settle on your major before you get to a 4-year where changing your mind incurs a massive expense. not to mention the way this could benefit working professionals, especially in fields like childcare where degrees are now being required when they hadn't been previously.

For a while in my life I legitimately considered moving to Germany. There’s multiple reasons I inevitably ended up staying in the US but one of the big ones was that one time when I was in Germany and wanted some salsa the closest thing I could find was basically just tomato sauce.

In case you have lids that don't look like this and none of those work, they make this thing:

It's technically for opening your oil cap on your car, but I have had one in the house for years and it will open lids that are stuck for many reasons, including plastic ones that have a lot of threads, threads that have swollen or shrunk together, and substance stickiness if something got over the edge and didn't get wiped off. Small lids, like soda bottles, are also no problem with this thing. You just slip the loop around the edge of the lid, pull the rubber tongue until snug (doesn't have to be super tight), and leverage the handle. The hardest part about opening any lid becomes which way is lefty loosy. There's not even a release latch for the strap- that toothed ridge on the top of the plastic handle grabs the rubber for you while turning, so you can just ease up pressure and the strap will slide either way again.

If applied violence (read: tapping the side of the lid against a counter all the way around) doesn't work for me, this tool has got my back.
