I think Louis’ design is really really good, and honestly it all comes down to the eyes. They’re large, which means his design is unquestionably a prey animal. But the minute he narrows them, that innocent look vanishes, replaced with aggression. The facial animations are excellent at exploiting that.
The choice of making him a deer is perfect as well. Deer definitely have very dog-like faces, and Louis’ are definitely much more front facing than real deer. These are traits associated with predators. All this conveys to the viewer that Louis isn’t the type to just accept his fate at the hands of a predator. He’s actively assertive over Legoshi for the entirety of the first season. I dunno if I’m making any sense, these sleep meds are strong as hell.
