All the Trans Jax discourse has made me realise how many people don't view representation as something that exists to represent people to themselves and make them feel seen or validated but rather to represent us to non queers as a palatable sales pitch for why they should tolerate our existence.

I’ve been rereading Wings of Fire recently, and two things occurred to me. One, HOLY SHIT THIS WAS WAY MORE ADULT THAN I REMEMBER. I remembered Tsunami snapping her dad’s neck but I didn’t remember all the other brutal deaths and adult themes that popped up. Like breeding is mentioned twice in ways that you barely had to read between the lines to reach some troubling imagery.

Secondly: I don’t care for prophecies. Wings of Fire is actually pretty clever when it comes to its prophecy, but the idea that one is born with a destiny rubs me the wrong way because if the outcome is already determined then where are the stakes, the tension, the “who will make it out alive” moments? I feel like stories about prophecies only work when the nature of prophecies as a concept are subverted. Is that the entire point of the trope and I’m just stupid or am I onto something?

I should elaborate on the breeding bit: Kestrel is stated to have been selected for the “breeding program”, which, yknow, is kinda dark. The Mudwings aren’t as dark, they’re more or less having orgies once a month. Ain’t no party like a Mudwing party.

there is a real kneejerk disgust/discomfort a lot of westerners have to hearing a spoken asian language, especially if its not japanese but japanese is absolutely not excluded.

And I also think that these same reactions get sort of twisted if 1. the voice is coming from an animated character and 2. that character is a woman or god forbid, a little girl.

like i remember watching BTR with some of my family on a vacation years ago and they all acted like it was literally dragging nails on a chalkboard to hear the characters speak. it still makes me so fucking mad LOL

Even where I live, where it's basically impossible to go a day without hearing a spoken asian language (especially Mandarin and Cantonese) it's still really common to hear people make those sorts of remarks or do racist mockery when they think nobody who cares is listening

I think it’s beautiful that during my time in the Asiatown section of the city I hear so many different languages and it’s honestly one of my biggest insecurities that I’m from Amish country and therefore cannot identify if the text I’m seeing is Chinese or Vietnamese or Cantonese because I can barely read English with a stupid font.

I came back to the city because I see such variety in culture instead of Amish and not Amish.

Loona might be partially Ars Goeitta…

S1 + S2 SPOILERS

I think Loona might have part Ars Goeitta genetics.

Firstly she’s able to change into her human form on command like Stolas. The imps (Blitz, Millie, & Moxxie) can’t which doesn’t even make sense because imps are supposed to be above hellhounds.

And, notice her demon form has 2 eyes underneath her eye. Similar to how Goeitta like Stolas have more eyes. — The imps or even succubus don’t even have demon forms like that even though hellhounds are the bottom in hells hierarchy. None of the other hellhounds have a demon form so far.

Also on her shorts, they have imagery of a crescent moon, so does Stolas’s grimoire.

I headcanon maybe Loona is a hybrid between a Goeitta & a Hellhound and was sadly put up for adoption since neither of them want a hybrid.

Under all that fur there’s a few feathers. Sometimes she’s brushing or styling her hair and has to take the casing off a pin feather or two before hiding it under the fur again.
