In Rimworld I was just contracted to hold onto some prisoners for someone for awhile, very normal circumstance. Except that the idiots decided to stage a prison break one day before it was time to return them and I had to violently subdue them. So my neighbours handed me three prisoners in perfect health and a week later I hand them back with shattered noses and poorly bandaged head and chest wounds like. No this wasn't my fault. We're good people we run a good prison.

Prisoners have a prison break internal timer, and when it runs out they will attempt a prison break. The timer depends on things like how many prisoners there are, how healthy they are, and how many doors lead into the cells.

The timer only ticks down while a prisoner is awake -- it is paused while they sleep. So you can increase the amount of time before a prison break (and thus the amount of time before you have to crack them over the head with a mace until they stop moving) by making them sleep longer. This is done by giving them shitty beds made out of stone that reduces their sleep quality so they have to be in bed longer to rest up. Since prisoners only really need to be awake to eat and get brainwashed (I mean, chat companionably with the warden about which faction they should be working for and what they should believe, we're all friends here), there's no reason not to make their sleep as shitty as possible.

This is the kind and gentle way to keep prisoners contained and healthy btw. Mean players will often use the more direct and reliable "nugget pawn" method.

I've been reading this book called "The Mismeasure of Man" which is about how intelligence testing was used to justify eugenics, an one recurring motif is that the parameters of intelligence were defined in a way that treated being a POC as a disability.

This shit was mainstream science for years and I think that plays a major role in why women and POC have a harder time receiving diagnoses, because they have been trained for decades to see being a part of those groups as a disability.

Also, props to them for making everyone look competent. Yeah, it’s clear that the heroes would wipe the floor with any of the villains in a one-on-one fight, but the villains aren’t actually trying to defeat them: they dramatically outnumber the heroes, and all they need to do (apparently) is for one of them to get away with the MacGuffin, and that’s a much more tenable goal. Having the extended action sequence also be an intense game of keep-away makes it much more interesting than your typical “everyone beats each other up” fight

I think another factor in what makes this fight so good is the fact that they saved a lot of their budget in many little ways, the costumes worn by the performers are visibly rather cheap looking, consisting of mostly sheets of colored clothing with some clearly plastic accessories, the building they're shooting in is clearly abandoned, and the VFX, while impressive, do not go beyond what an independent youtuber could do.

This saving on some parts of the budget allows them to invest more into fight choreography and stunt work. Many western studios won't take these strategic cuts to those parts of their budget, because they want to emphasise realism. Hollywood is reluctant to point towards an obvious prop and say "act like it's real" and so they spend money based on obligation instead of neccesity.

That is such a flagrant and unacceptable breach of research ethics. The articles produced with this data should be retracted and the researchers responsible should have their credentials revoked.

When you work with any marginalised group, but especially a group like trans people who are the current targets of a global hate movement, you have a moral obligation to work WITH them to produce work that can help them. Consent is not something you can work around, even if you are doing analysis of publicly available social media posts, you still need to ask the people who made those posts for consent, and if they say no you cannot use it.

Also, to do this with fucking HEALTH DATA?!?! In a just world heads would have started rolling over this shit immediately. This is so blatantly unacceptable. People are not fucking resources for us to exploit, opressed and marginalised people are not the raw material for our research, I cannot even begin to explain just how out of line this shit is.

for my fellow psychotics who struggle with thinking someone is in their house, a method I’ve found that really works are these guys:

i put them on my front door and anytime it opens they ring. that way if i think someone has broken in or i see someone who isn’t there i can think back to if the bells have rung, and if they haven’t i can assure myself it’s not real. obviously it’s not fool proof, like if you are prone to auditory hallucinations, but it has really helped me calm down in time to avoid major psychotic breaks. it’s a real lifesaver

I would like to see more people talk about how jobs treat disabled employees.

I used to prep, wash dishes, and cook at mellow mushroom. I had chronic pain that wasn't NEARLY as bad as it is today, but it was still very debilitating. I told my employer "i cannot stand more than 4 to 6 hours. I CANNOT do shifts longer than this due to my illness." And even though i made my boundaries VERY clear, everyday i worked it was 8 hours at the least and 10 or 12 at the most. I would go up to my manager and say "look i really need to leave, my shift is over, my chronic pain is killing me." And he'd say "we really need to here, you HAVE to push through." And so i did, and after one, ONE month of that job my crps got incredibly worse to the point where i could no longer walk my dog around the block which was .5 miles. I quit, and that was FOUR years ago, and ever since that day I HAVE BEEN BEDRIDDEN AND HAVE TO USE A WHEELCHAIR. It is my biggest regret in life.

My best friend who has seen my whole journey has recently developed undiagnosed chronic pain, and she is in the EXACT same scenario i was 4 years ago. Busting her ass at a pizza place with extreme pain that hurts her so much she tells me "im in so much pain i don't even feel like a person." She doesn't feel LUCID. And her manager and coworkers are saying the same thing "if you don't help us you will let us down, we'll be in the shit."

That job thats hurting you isn't fucking worth it. I promise you no money is worth losing all your physical abilities and never getting them back. Your coworkers and boss do not give a shit about you, so don't you dare suffer for them. They will never understand your struggle and they will never try. They truly think being understaffed is worse than whatever pain you experience. They would rather you permanently damage yourself than inconvenience them. FUCK THEM. DON'T FUCKING DO IT!

If you're in America and someone tries to push you beyond what what you can handle thanks to your disability, point out that their behaviour is in violation of the Americans with disabilities act and that such behaviour opens them up to lawsuits.

Point out that violation of the act can incur heavy fines or potentially get the business shut down, tell them that this behaviour is endangering the team because of that and that it could put you and everyone else at the business out of a job.
