Darksiders Lore: Tidbits
The forests of this domain brought to mind the woods around the dojo that prevailed against his thoughts. Returning to his demonic form had unmoored him, caught between the indoctrination by Muzan and the awakening of his human memories.
It left him with time to wander, still shying from the bright sun that lingered long with the summer by hiding in the shadows of the trees and the cool of the waters.
The roaring waterfall hides his approach until he scatters the birds at the edge of the water, dozens of wings fluttering past him as he brings a hand up to cover his face. Only once the feathers cleared did he take note of the enormous figure in the spray of the water.
He doesn't want to interrupt the peaceful moment, dropping to sit at the edge of the water with his feet dangling into the cool water. The shape of the armor keeps drawing his attention, his eyes tracing the demonic shapes of it.
"You - you're a warrior?"
He finally speaks up, hoping the clarity of his voice carries across the waterfall.
Even with the spray of hard water pressure that only a waterfall could deliver, War still felt the presence of another. So he opened his eyes; his gaze finding the demon immediately. The horseman had a glower of an expression, but it was notably softer than usual.
At first he stood up, the water hitting his back and shoulders like heavy bricks; but then he jumped across the pool of water towards the stranger; landing with only a slight bend of the knees.
The horseman moved surprisingly swiftly for a man of his stature.
"I am."
At least her day isn't slow anymore.
It's been a while since she's had to treat anything serious, but it's ingrained into Tikoh. As soon as the incredibly-large man comes through her door, she's already on her feet.
"Oh? Here, lay him down on one of the beds in this room," she says, waving him towards an open doorway. "I'll triage him and see what I can do."
She's frustratingly limited without her magic, but Tikoh has enough medical know-how to get by. Gathering a few important supplies, she sweeps into the room and pulls on a pair of latex glove, beginning her work.
Glancing up at the large man who brought the patient in, she cocks a brow. "Did you see what happened? Or are you just a helpful passerby?"
War listens to her without question and does as he is instructed. He walks towards the nearest bed and lays the unconscious man down on the soft sheets. "I did not see what happened. Only found him laying in the street while everyone around him did nothing."
He took a step back and crossed his arms. "I in good conscious, was unable to leave him lying there." Also no one had been able to give him a straight answer as to what happened either.
With her pupils blown like that, she'd be going until her body broke under the force. There's a frenzy in her being, a fire that refused to be quenched, and one that propelled her to rush after him with blistering speed that no normal human could ever muster.
She's nowhere near the level of a god, of course.
Every time he moves, she chases him, turning fast on her heel and immediately closing the gap. She'd keep running, he was absolutely faster then her, but she throws herself into the effort fully regardless. Roars of effort followed the usual grunts and audible exhales, as well as uncharacteristic laughter. Something about this state felt so good that it was almost euphoric, and she strikes at every opening almost with intent to kill... And had her opponent been human, she likely would have thrice over by now.
"Come on, hit me already, damn you! I didn't come here just for you to run away!!" There's a wild grin on her features, charging him head on and launching off the floor to aim a kick straight at his head.
Five more minutes... The Frenzy only lasted so long as long as the Stars limiter sat in place. In five minutes she'd drop to the floor exhausted. The question was, how long was War willing to let this go on?
How long would this go on? As long as Helena was able to fight.
As the kick nears War's head, he raises his hand and pushes her leg to send her off balance, as well as giving him a moment to retaliate. Yet, he only retaliates with a simple tap. Not even a punch or strike. Just a tap of his knuckles. It's enough to get someone's attention, but certainly not enough to cause harm.
The horseman responds calmly enough to her rage. "You've thrown your hits, and shown your rage, now how well can you quell that fury?!" It was one thing to go and go, but having the control to stop yourself was another power entirely.
"Without the power to control yourself, you've lost half the battle already!"
@redhorseman
"War," he greets with a friendly enough smile. "Am I to assume correctly you searched for me for another continuation of where we left off?"
"You would be incorrect with that assumption."
"I've come for information." It was a bit of a long shot, but War was going to ask anyone and everyone he could think of. Sebastian was a fine enough start.
"Unfortunately, the answers I seek are attached to...vague questions. As I've found it difficult to start this search." He stepped up to Sebastian and looked down at him.
"My vengeance can no longer wait. I seek a way to reach The Stars."
|| Look at my man okay. ||
"No--No, you have nothing to apologize for," Prometheus says with a breathy laugh. "It is so good to see you again. Though I suppose it is a little sad. You are once more far from home." He doesn't know what kind of world War came from, but maybe War missed the people there?
"Ah, it....It also saddens me to tell you that Agathis was returned home. He has yet to return." Perhaps it was for the best?
Despite the urgency that he had about wanting to return; the inevitable battle that awaited War back in his own realm could wait a little longer. Seeing Prometheus's face again helped him to realize that. In a way, it calmed him.
He closed his eyes for a moment and let out a breath. "I thought as much."
"That is perhaps for the best." He does reach out, despite trying to resist the urge to do so. Placing a hand on Prometheus's shoulder only.
"None of us are meant to remain here, but I am glad to see you regardless. My friend."
"Aye, you've got that right." Presently, Octavo is reading a book about different blood diseases, seated in a comfortable lounge chair. "The only way to learn about the Stars is to talk to people who've been here longer than you, who are familiar with their proclivities. Perhaps you might even find one who's even lucky enough to have heard their words directly. Not me, though. I've only been here... about six months."
Setting the book aside, he stands, though he's still head and shoulders below the height of this extraordinarily-large man. People in this city were too damned tall on average. "I'm still searching for any evidence they can be meaningfully-harmed. It seems like they've made errors in the past, allowed invaders into their little terrarium, though that could all be part of the game as well..."
"That may be difficult. I've been here for nearly 3 years. Hrm..." He placed his thumb and forefinger and thumb on his chin in a thoughtful manner. The horseman had been quietly observing the realm, looking for clues silently in his own way. This was the first time that he'd opening expressed his truer intentions to anyone.
The others they...were content to remain, or they didn't have it in them to fight. To War, he could not put any blame on those who made these choices. He simply had to fight for his own reasons, but he wouldn't push this narrative on anyone else.
That being said, it was honestly it was nice to have an ally in this.
"They have control over what goes on in this city, yet...occasionally, they do lose control, which causes the chaotic events that occur.."
"I suppose you are correct. We will need input from more people."
@innerbeast
"What is it about Aurelius that brings forth such anger inside you?"
No one could blame War for not having the entire story. He had a tendency to not only mind his own business, but keep away from people for months at a time. It was simply in his nature to do so.
He offers Dar a bowl of some kind of meat soup as a courtesy. Who knows what's in it besides random meat though, but at least it's been boiled?
Sephiroth paused and looked up at War. It had been a long time since they saw each other and he gave a polite nod to him. Things had been feeling a lot brighter for him in many ways and he was surprised it was noticeable.
"Many things have happened," Sephiroth said. "Two angels have graciously adopted me."
It was still strange to say out loud. Sephiroth wanted to pinch himself every time he said it.
"Two angels.." War takes pause and thinks for a moment. "That would be...Aurelius and ...Klaus." Those were the only two angels that he knew of in this entire realm. Klaus was a kind soul and Aurelius was....well, he was respectable enough.
Enough that War had no issue being employed by him at least. Then again, he didn't know either of them that well on a personal level.
Regardless, the boy seemed happy.
"I see." Meanwhile, War was the same. He didn't even have any new scars to show for all the time spent here.
"You've found a family. That is quite special."
"Well...I don't know how long that'll be," he mumbles under his breath. What did at your own pace even mean? He wanted to be older now. Wasn't that AT HIS OWN PACE? He would think so.
"I wanna be as big as you. You're soooo coool!"
"It will happen when it happens."
War stared at the boy for a moment, then he held up his hand and shook his head. "Boy. You hardly know me." He could turn this into another lesson, since the opportunity was there. ...Agh, this kid had somehow gotten him to speak, when all he wanted was quiet?! Oh, well.
"You should not give trust or pass judgement on others so quickly.
"Do you understand?"
@bulletfeeder
It wasn't like War to mistake the vestige of one for another. However, he'd be lying to himself if he didn't notice the similarities between this stranger and his brother, Strife. Still, it was just a passing shadow of familiarity. Nothing more.
He was riding atop his steed, Ruin, which is what caused this entire interaction in the first place.
"Ruin is no horse. He is a beast."
"And...I know not of these...cow boys, of which you speak."
@edgedwing
It had been some time since War last saw the boy. Not purposefully, but it was in his nature. He and his siblings could spend decades or centuries apart from each other, but when next they’d meet it was as if no time had passed at all.
For mortals it was obviously different. They changed from month to month, year to year. For best or worse.
“You seem brighter than when last I saw you.”

The Cotes ward had become War's main hub for living and relaxation. Although one may not think the horseman the type to relax; this was actually how he kept himself going day to day. Amongst other things.
At the moment he was sitting on a stone under a waterfall. His demonic armor and other bits of clothing besides his pants had been shed and was set to the side. The water pounded against his shoulders and back harshly, but he sat upright with his legs crossed, despite the immense pressure.
His eyes closed, he wore a frown on his face; but trust that he was relaxed despite that expression.
Surrounding the water were birds. Birds of different colors and sizes; most of them small.
However, something startled the birds, and they fluttered off as footsteps approached. War kept his eyes closed; one might think that he was asleep, but trust that he was not!
Morbid curiosity had gotten to Raiden. One deadly stabbing wasn't enough to put him off of exploring the lower levels of Fibbonacci, and exploring had lead him to a seedy club with a roughly fenced-in circle in the center of the floor. People rotated in, hit each other bloody, and rotated out. It was the kind of place he would have wished he had in his past life. The time when, if he wasn't trying to drink until he was delirious enough to keep his own memories from reaching him, he was trying to wring out every bit of violence left in his body in fear that he'd bring it home again. A lot of times he would multitask between both. Raiden liked to think he was better than all that now.
Even so, the smell of blood and the sound of pain is a bit too compelling to ignore.
When someone shouts towards him, he snaps out of his thoughts, body tensing-- but it becomes clear after a few words that they're talking to the person next to him. Raiden leans forward to get a better look at said big guy. He has the impassive air of someone who wasn't in a crowded club at all, but his eyes are fixed on the fighting. Another voyeur.
"I think someone's trying to tell you something." He says, by way of banter. "Does that just happen everywhere you go?"
The fellow who was trying to goad War, gave up only a moment after Raiden spoke up. It was no fun to antagonize a brick wall!
The horseman let out a grunt at first. "Hrm.." Then he glanced down at Raiden with that stern expression which he always wore. "In this realm, it is a surprisingly common occurrence." There was an odd balance between those that ran from him, and those that wanted to fight him in this world.
"It is not a clever choice to make. Not for a mortal."
@thiefandlyre
It wasn't often that one would see the red rider picking up a book. He found it difficult to stay still while reading words on a page. However, in this specific situation, books were needed. As these books may end up providing him with important contextual information about The Stars.
Yet, hours went by and War found nothing useful. He was close to simply tossing each book aside-- but the librarian was certain to toss him out for that disrespect, so he remained as calm as possible in a impossible situation.
"The books. They are useless for our purpose."
"Any clues about The Stars and how to reach them certainly won't be found in something so easily accessible." Despite War seemingly settling into the island, he would never be totally at home in such a realm.
And he wasn't the only one.
"Oh! That's all? That's easy!" Oasises are easy!! If that's all it takes, she can definitely make a successful one! She beams up at him, looking pleased with her sudden thought process. "My bathroom is big! If I fill the tub up, that'll be enough water!" What's an oasis supposed to look like anyway? Were there plants? Animals?
This guy seems to know a lot about them, so maybe he'll know.
Anya digs out a notepad from her penguin bag, starting to (literally) scribble.
"What kinda stuff is in an oasis... Do I gotta put grass in it? I gotta make sure it's successful, and cool. For world peace."
"Hrm...that won't work." The horseman may have been humoring the child, but he certainly didn't want her to get hurt by unrealistic expectations either.
"You will need to make the oasis outside. ....If it is inside your home, then it would be...more difficult for others to share." He crossed his arms, then leaned over slightly to see what the girl was scribbling down.
"...You'll need trees as well."
