...So an acquaintance brought a computer over that was full of fake McAfee pop-ups and had no idea where they came from. Needless to say, a check of their history showed exactly where they came from, based on when they said the pop-ups started. I got the problem fixed but since this would be really awkward, I just warned them not to visit any sketchy sites. Wouldn't you know it, the computer had to stay with me the better part of the day 'to run scans' for far longer than needed just so they know this is a real hassle and to actually stay away from those sites from now on.
I mean, I'm not being a Judgy McJudgerperson, but at least find an online community that caters to your interests instead of that virus-infected free-for-all.
...So last night my 6yo got out my dad's hand truck and had a blast pushing it around the yard. A delivery came for my dad and I had him run it inside, only afterward he said we have to bring any future deliveries in using the dolly. I had to take a picture today of the box on the hand truck, but I'll indulge him next time. I love how he thinks and it probably would be far more fun to do it his way!
Dear Diary...
...So this is highly not recommended, but since my ADHD self has epic trouble with cleaning, i.e. seeing the job through, I made a 12-cup pot of coffee after finishing the last two cups leftover from yesterday. That was around noon and I just polished off the last cup now; it's 10 p.m. I cranked the SotM soundtrack and now the fridge is clean, the corner cabinet is clean and organized, and I've discovered the source of the flour moths that have been fluttering around the kitchen. (It was an old container of almonds; they apparently love nuts as well as other baking ingredients. They're out in the compost pile now.)
I'm also reminded, in a good way, which side of the family I inherited my ADHD from. My dad and I don't buy to overconsume, but just as I was chuckling over the number of pizza flours and spices my dad had bought and forgotten, I pulled out no less than nine knockoff-brand Mio water flavorers, wheat germ and other 'hippie foods' that I'd forgotten about. And we had a ridiculous number of opened baking sodas and corn starches. Not to mention the pasta. It's too easy to portion out some, put the rest in a gallon bag and then forget the bag is on the shelf among the company of many of its brethren.
Update - Now I'm cleaning the lazy susan spinner. Yegads, there's even more. None will go to waste (it's against my nature to waste food) but I'm going to keep a better inventory of what we have on hand from now on.
...And I found a jar of mushroom coffee and was about to make some when I realized I oughtn't, haha. Tomorrow.
...And now it's 1 a.m. and at least one corner of the kitchen looks amazing. Fanfic-writing time because sleep will surely elude me.
HOKUM (2026) dir. DAMIAN MCCARTHY
Hokum was so good, one of my favourite horrors of the year so far!
I saw this with my dad last night and it was incredible! The character above is very FNAF-coded; I'll avoid giving spoilers but there's another plot element that this film shared with FNAF.
It's intelligent horror and hugely plot-driven, with just as much mystery as supernatural elements. It was genuinely scary without much gore. The characters were likeable, even the surly protagonist. Elby my beloved!
I love plot-driven horror like this; if anyone reading this has similar recs, I'll do my best to give them a try. Thanks!
"Y'know what that sign means, All airplanes must turn right." ...Oh, did my 6yo get mad at that joke.
I forgot how much I utterly love the aeshetic of Boscov's, one of the last great department stores. Fun was had today.
Playing hooky from church felt crummy after the fact, so...I'm back and helped run the coffee and donut ministry ("donut ministry," how is that not a great term?)
I did the worst job ever! We ran out of coffee, one of the coffeemakers started spewing coffee all over the table and I rushed into the kitchen to heat up the back-up coffee from the 8 ayem service. ...Which ended up in a Corelleware bowl (because it was the only microwave-safe vessel I could find) in this here Radarange microwave before returning it to the carafe. Believe it or not, this was the very first household microwave ever sold. It's been in our church basement since I was a kid. Then when I finally caught up, my 6yo showed me how many sugar packets and creamers he had inhaled. At some point, he had asked me if it was okay to have some and my ADHD self said sure. Oh well, no harm, no foul.
Oc drawings (one is still a WIP im trying to develop his design but both still need stories)
Mace (ignore their hair it probably looks weird bc it's not colored yet)
Ivan (probably gonna change his name to make it more less common like Mace's)
I always draw eyes looking off to the side bc I just don't like eye contact at all and it's always weird-looking tbh
(I LOVE making the pupils either really big or really small i just don't want the eyes to look "normal", I want it to feel less human, I want it to feel a little bit weird, I want it to feel more like me)
I have no explanation for this other than it's what pops into my head whenever I hear this on the radio
I wanna get tossed in some salt and oil and roast away ...
Hitting "Reblog" so hard right now.
It just keeps getting better and better around here. My late mom's cousin informed me that her sister (my other cousin) and her husband both passed and their ashes are awaiting burial in a potter's field. Not on my dime! I'll give up my spot in the family plot; I'm fine with a burial in the "green burial" hippie cemetery one county over.
Dear Diary...
...So the last two weeks have gone just swimmingly. I was supposed to make an appearance at church at 11 ayem today and my motley @$$ did this down the road instead. In my defense, I walked.
A prophecy has been fulfilled, but was it ever a slow burn! And now I am free to share this, haha. I knew the minute a classmate snapped this photo of high-school me in Fall '94 that this would catch up with me, even if social media was yet to be a thing: "This is what I'll be known for, being Rat Grrl." Now a classmate (love her!) shared it on FB, with the snarky caption, "I dug through some old yearbooks." (Did I mention I love her? We didn't get along at all in HS, but I'd lay down my life for her now. We so should've been friends.) "New kid hides behind their awful Nineties bangs and hangs out with their lab rats." I sent back an update: "31 years later, Rollerwings still hides behind her hair and prefers the company of rodents to that of humans. She also still has that shirt and wears it in frequent rotation." I was *not* expecting our yearbook supervisor to comment, "This is why yearbooks are important!" I love them both. <3 Uh...if anyone tells you that Internet posts last forever, I have it on good authority that pre-Internet material has a funny way of returning.
Dear Diary...
No Kings! Things have been a bit rough lately, but did it ever do my punk-rock, snarky self good to watch Trumpian rednecks scream with rage at us from their pickups. It's so cathartic to watch someone get utterly bent out of shape and then to respond with a "have a jolly good day, Sir!" I stood next to a couple who had just moved up from Texas to PA, and they shared how awful the anti-LGBTQIA+ atmosphere they faced on a daily basis was down there. I hope they find it far more welcoming here; the one woman talked about how her family had turned against her and her wife over religious views. We "final five" who stayed after the protest was officially over all shook hands and I hope we can meet again at a future event. They're good people.

the US wants to run Venezuela through just a conglomerate of oil companies. this is pure extractive colonialism and imperialist aggression. not to like be iranian on main but. oil. it's always fucking oil.
Yeah, it's not about drugs, it's about strong-arming another country into selling the United Snakes of America oil for dirt-cheap, and that's beyond wrong. That's hardly owed to us. He cost so many bluecollar workers on ships their very lives, so forget him and the horse he rode in on.
fucking hell
For the record, these used to say “due to the October 1st government shutdown, we are unable to guarantee all information is up to date”.
Honestly this is terrifying. These are health and safety websites. They aren’t for propaganda. Also, the sudden *lack of warning of potential inaccuracy these banners were originally for* is also really not good
we are so boned
This is so monumentally messed up. He's cutting SNAP benefits for hardworking families that need them. My Former Spouse and I and our 5 Spawn rely on those, and free school lunches. I was a free lunch kid myself back in the day.
I drive a weekly "food rescue" of close-dated food from a local convenience store to a church for distribution, and lately the "little free pantry's" been just about empty. The clients' farm market checks have been cut back. Said clients are mostly seniors who put in years of dedicated work! They deserve so much better.
WIC's probably next on the cutting block.
But hey, let them eat cake, right?! I kinda feel like lending him my late grandpa's fiddle so he can play it while our country burns down around our ears.
