It isn’t a new thing for Ismael. She’s always jogging first thing in the morning (before the sun even rises), and she’s made it a habit to do her nightly run when the sun began setting. So TWO times. She’s got to keep up with her endurance after all! After a long evening jog though, she decides to take a short break by the giant tree. Her small bag is dropped to the ground and she plops beside it and immediately is grabbing an unopened water bottle to take a sip of. 

With the bottle now by her side, she presses her hands against the soil beneath her and leans against the palms of her hands. “…” There’s a lot to think about and the forest is one of many great places to get lost in thought.

Or so she had hoped. 

Brown eyes lifts to meet the gentleman’s gaze. It’s a little hard to see his face, but she isn’t too worried. She knows how to protect herself if something happens. 

“Could say the same about you? What’cha doin’ out by yourself at this hour?”

✘ ✘ Ardyn watches her. One moment, two, then makes a sarcastic bow. ❝ Apologies, ❞ he says. He takes note of her water bottle and her expression and realizes quickly enough that this is indeed someone who he has interrupted. He takes off his hat and brings it to his chest, still in that deep bow, and stands up straight.

❝ I suppose you could say the same about me. You simply look a touch young to be out on your own. ❞ In truth, Ardyn hasn’t expected to see anyone else here at dusk, and he can’t be certain of the girl’s age. He’s met so many people here -- those who ranged from immortal to those who were mere teenagers. He doesn’t know where to place her, or even if she is capable of defending herself. It was a good thing he has no intention of causing any mischief today -- especially for someone who he’s just met. A friend or perhaps an unassuming merchant is fair game, but not her. She needn’t fret, though Ardyn is sure that her expression is not one of trust.

❝ I am simply on a little stroll before nightfall. It’s a good hour for solitude, would you not agree? ❞

Deuce blinks and glances up to Ardyn as he speaks, tilting his head lightly. As one of the first people he had met in this city, he really felt like he could trust the older man. Even if he hadn’t seen him around for quite some time, he’d never complain about a familiar face and questions from them.

Even if he…didn’t really know the answer. He didn’t think he did, anyways?

“I’ve…heard about a lot of different types of flowers from my potions class back home, with different properties to them. But I don’t think I know the type you’re talking about.”

✘ ✘ Ardyn smiles. Its a slow smile, and his head tilts to the side as he looks out across the city. This place has become a home to him -- he is reluctant to admit it, perhaps even moreso to admit he is fond of the young man standing in front of him.

❝ Well, ❞ he starts, and slowly looks back to Deuce.  ❝ As a man of science, perhaps you would be interested in discovering its properties with me. Perhaps we can even create one of these potions you speak of. How does that sound? ❞

He doesn’t give the younger man a chance to respond, just turns on his heel and waves for Deuce to follow.

✘ ✘  ❝ Deuce, ❞ Ardyn says, his head tilting to the side as he looks at the much younger man in front of him. In truth, he’s grown fond of the boy -- he’s an interesting sort, and clearly a good person. Ardyn can’t so much relate to the latter part of that statement, least of all now, but he does see a similar naivety behind his eyes that reminds him of himself.

No matter. He smiles regardless, and motions forward.  ❝ I’m a bit curious, I need to admit, ❞ he starts, then pauses.  ❝ Have you heard about the flowers that supposedly have nefarious and mystical powers? ❞

✘ ✘ Ardyn’s eyes shift from side to side. He thinks, perhaps, just for a moment that this is not the place for him -- but, yet again, he does enjoy sticking his nose in places it does not belong. Ever since his retirement (and that’s what he thinks of this as, retirement, a certain finality that came with Noctis’ battle that should have resulted in his death but instead sent him here) he’s been itching to entertain himself a little more.

The Golden Ward has a lot of interesting places, but the Dawn Resort and Casino is one that he has recently become interested in. After all, what is the point of dust if not to spend it?

His gaze settles on the man at one of the tables, and sits down next to him.  ❝ And what seems to be the rules of this game?  ❞ he asks, and offers him a smile instead of a name.

✘ ✘ It’s a chilly day, cold enough to make most want to go inside. He doesn’t, though. He doesn’t need to, not with all these layers he wears and not with the peace of nightfall on the horizon. Even as the sun looks as if it’s to set in the far distance Ardyn places his hand on the bark of what he’s come to know as the eternal tree and sighs. It’s a thoughtful little sound, though Ardyn himself gives no indication of what his thoughts may be at present.

He tilts his hat so it obscures only part of his face and smiles, just a little, as he notices he’s not alone. Looking over he spots the girl and walks over -- a slow, unbothered sort of swagger to his step.

❝ Now, isn’t it a little late for someone to be out on their own?  ❞

Ardyn’s hands are on the dirt, framing between them a large animal print. He doesn’t know why, it’s not as if he has issue with dirtying himself -- both literally and metaphorically -- but one does wonder why he’s close to the mud and the grass that he can almost taste the earth. 

He... doesn’t know what he’s looking for. He’s not even sure if this is what he was meant to be doing. 

He pauses, takes a look at Rook. He frowns and puts a finger to his lips in contemplation before tilting his head. 

“I believe,” he starts, drawing the words out. “That the animal we seek headed north. Do you hear anything that may be useful? I’m afraid wit my subpar abilities I cannot discern as much as you from this track. Perhaps you should take a closer look?”

His eyes travel down the path and he holds his chin between his thumb and forefinger. There’s something off about the area near the Mistwood, but if anyone was going to sniff it out -- either metaphorically or physically -- it would be Rook Hunt.

“Indeed,” he answers to no posed question. “I’ve nothing else to do, and you’ve spoken about your prowess as a hunter. Let’s see that put to work, shall we?”
