Riff Raff was right y’all.. it’s astounding….. time IS fleeting….
Frank: Starting to think I might have issues, and even perhaps problems.
This template was just too perfect not to use
howdy rocky horror fans. i know as a collective we are into rock music so if u have a spare second please help a girl out and take my survey on rock music for my research paper!!
Please complete the following questions to help with my research paper regarding the accuracy of trend cycles at predicting the status of ro
So I’ve seen several different interpretations of Riff-Raff’s little “THEY DIDN’T LIKE ME! THEY NEVER LIKED ME!” outburst. But the read I always had of it, is that it feels… defensive.
Like, Riff-Raff thought he wanted to kill Frank, no matter who else got hurt on the way. But now that he actually did it, killed Frank and also Columbia and Rocky as collateral damage, now he’s having some regretful feelings. But he doesn’t want to admit that. So he’s just kinda trying to convince himself that this is good and he is happy now and it is just like he imagined it will be….
And then Magenta, his one only real ally in the world, questions his actions. Maybe even voicing some of the same doubts that have already passed through his mind. So as on-edge as he’s already is, he snaps and doubles-down.
(As for Magenta’s perspective on the whole affair. I think she saw the possibility of killing anyone as more of a means to an end. Her only goal was for her and her brother to go back home, and she was willing to kill for it. But once it became clear that Frank is not actually an obstacle for that goal and actually sang a whole-ass song about going home, killing became just unnecessary in her eyes. But it’s not like she cared enough about Frank or the humans to stop Riff-Raff. She just sees it as a Kind of Weird Decision.)
But yeah, Riff-Raff is doubling-down and shouting because he’s trying to quiet down his own internal doubts, and here comes in Dr. Scott to actually validate Riff-Raff’s actions. Between Brad and Janet’s horror, Rocky’s grief-induced rampage, Columbia’s senseless sacrifice, Magenta’s confusion and Riff-Raff’s insecurities- I think he’s the only one who sees Frank’s death as an unambiguously good thing. Even in response to Scott’s validation, Riff-Raff frames it more like it was a necessary evil rather than a truly good thing.
And I think, this aspect really affected how Riff-Raff interacted with the humans for the reminder of that scene. Cause, like, Riff-Raff did not have much of a reaction to Frank brutally murdering Eddie and he’s at the very least complicit in the scheme of cooking him up and serving him for dinner. And he sure as hell didn’t seem to feel guilty about that . So, like, I don’t think he actually cared in any way about Eddie beforehand, just now that he’s trying to be friendly with Dr. Scott.
And notice that when he’s warning to humans to GTFO, he only really addresses Dr. Scott.
Like, if Brad and Janet weren’t just also standing there next to Dr. Scott, would Riff-Raff and Magenta have bothered to tell them to run away to safety? Probably not. Like with Eddie, Riff-Raff and Magenta were either complicit in all of the terrible things Frank did to those two, or just totally having a laugh over it. I think they just saw Brad and Janet as useful distractions while they were working on their little plan, so I doubt they would’ve cared of what would’ve happened to them if they were caught in the crossfire of their plan one last time… if not for Dr. Scott’s sweet, sweet Validation.
thinking of that letterbox review of rhps that said something along the lines of “rocky horror is glitter-it’s explosive and loud and flamboyant and uniquely campy and once you touch it you’ll never get rid of it it’ll follow you wherever you go”
