On the contrary, Regulus Arcturus Black could swim very well. A known thalassophile, that one. He adored swimming. If you could not find him at the manor, he would be in the river out back. If you could not find him at Hogwarts, he would be in the lake doing laps.

A fish in water, they called him. Likely to have mermaid in his blood was a common jest.

This was why his death was truly so shocking.

Because of course, Regulus felt safer than most getting an amulet surrounded by water. Well, yes, there were creatures in the water, but... he was a magnificent swimmer!

Unfortunately, no matter how fast Regulus Black could swim, nothing was swifter than fate. He learned that lesson quickly, and he learned it well.

'hey, evans. this is uncalled for, but do you want to study together this summer? i heard you have one of the same classes i had when i was in your year.' (aurora is a year or two older than lily, same as petunia)

lily, being the young witch who thirsts for knowledge (and being a youngest sibling who can SENSE the shit stirring she could do) she says yes, even volunteers to do it at her own house

aurora is like YEAHHHH SCORE

cut to the entire summer, at first aurora comes around once a week or so to study

but then. she actually meets and bonds with petunia

oh shes spending the NIGHT now

they get rlly close over the summer, and promise to owl when school starts back up

petunia is intrigued by this girl who actually cares about her more than her sister, who isnt a friend of her sisters

and aurora is entranced by this gorgeous girl who does muggle magic.

petunia sees aurora off to hogwarts, and the send owls back and forth for the whole year.

by the next summer, they are dating.

they date until they are both around 20, 21?

then petunia falls victim to social standards and compet ideals and theres a rlly bad breakup

then yk canon she gets w whats his face and has dudley

but in the good in fun au its just a small breakup and they end up back together and get married and have a kid (petunia did want to be a mother, the hetero part was the worst)
