This summer, I am going to be all about the upcycles. Recently I have been working on a lot of little projects. My most recent are the items above!
The two pairs of shorts had the most perfect print, I just had to have them when I saw them at the thrift store. They were both really long, and by long i mean almost to the knee. Aaaannndddd not so cute. I shorted them, and then sewed on some pretty lace trim. They are now the cutest pair of skater shorts, which are really trendy right now. The cream pair has sold, but the navy pair is still available!
The same story applies to the overalls. Overalls have always been a summer staple, but recently because of festival season, they have been super popular. I decided to add a little handmade charm to the pair I found at the thrift store. Although they were marked a size small, the legs were like a large, extremely wide and baggy. When wearing them they looked....off. I knew I had to save them. I cut them like I would a distressed short, with a diagonal up a few inches from the inseam under the pocket. After adding the lace trim, they were ADORABLE. I had a little bit of the lace trim left over and hand sewed it to the pocket. They are still available in my shop!
Last but not least, the white crop top. I made this from an old white sheet. Yes. A sheet. I don't why, but I hardly have any plain white tops that aren't covered in remnants of my crafty past, and knowing I had a lot of vintage bottoms to photograph for my shop, I wanted to have something that wouldn't distract the shopper. I made a pattern myself and sewed it up in about 20 mins. After trying it on, it was a tad bit too snug (my boyfriend had to help me get it off! woops!) I didn't want to start over, so I took out the seams on the side and sewed in some bows out of the same white sheet. I LOVE how it turned out. There is a better photo of the detail on my instagram account. (@rehabbedhandmade)
There are still a lot of great pieces in the shop that were just added. Lots of festival favorites and summer staples. Check out the shop and find all the great deals! Not only are you supporting a small business, you are helping recycle, AND you're getting a one of a kind piece that none of your friends are going to have. Win win!
