Quick question (and I’m not sure if this has been asked before,) but does Kris exist in your main Chara story? Since Dess does I’m assuming Noelle is present too, but is Kris a sibling of the other 2? Or does the story take place before their adoption? Or are they not a factor at all? Just curious :)

First of all the easier thing, Noelle does exist, too! Even if there weren't references to them in Undertale, I would've prolly just gone "Idc, they exist here now", me including their existence is kinda based on the Undertale alarmclock dialogue.

Specifically this one with Asgore:

Which to me implies that Rudy has at least 2 daughters in Undertale as well, and it kinda just makes sense for them to be Dess and Noelle as well, not? :P

Though, the same as in Undertale, in my (at least what I wrote and outlined so far) Undertale timelines, the dark world stuff isn't really a thing. Ooooor at the very least I haven't included it in the past, I was thinking of including it somehow in the future.

So the whole Dess disappearance never really happened/happens, and I don't see Undertale and Deltarune as a continous timeline, so where Kris would be adopted by the Dreemurrs in Deltarune, the Monsters are still stuck Underground in my Undertale fics.

Especially since Kris without the soul fuck ups just isn't really Kris to me, them being "possessed" to me is just very crucial to their backstory/character, so I wouldn't know how to include them in my fic without it feeling forced, especially cuz of other stuff such as:

Toriel and Asgore did not stay together in the TotC:BotH timeline, the events of Undertale's true pacifist route happened, so they broke up because Asgore declared war and Frisk may have made everyone friends again, but Asgore and Toriel are still borken up.

Because of the nature of the red soul so far in both Undertale and Deltarune being controlled by a "player", I just make Chara and Frisk call that weird power/controller "the Angel" instead to turn it into a third-party being that no one can fully understand, and both Frisk and Chara felt it guiding them at different times in this timeline. Not to the extent where they were fully pupeteered as we control the figure in Undertale, but it's certainly made itself present very clearly to help them and suggest different paths. And in the TotC:BotH timeline, it just "moved on" one day, slipping over into Deltarune when it got bored/satisfied with what it had seen in Undertale, which also means that it never really took control of a Kris in this timeline. :p

I did think about it a few times if I should/could include them somehow, but it just doesn't make too much sense, honestly. They probably live somewhere in the world, but Chara and the Reader are most likely never going to meet them, as they're just another human in this world who grew up without monsterkind on the surface.

This is usually also the problem I have with including Chara in a Deltarune timeline. Their past to me is very important to the character, so I tend to struggle to include the two in the same story. My Chara wouldn't have reason to be scared of hurting those they love this badly if they haven't ever experienced the genocide route where power was addicting enough for them to encourage a genocide and erase entire worlds, Chara wouldn't be this ignorant of other humans if they wouldn't have pushed Chara past where they wanted to kill themselves, and they wouldn't feel so at ease when it comes to physical comfort with monsters if they wouldn't have made them feel so loved when Chara only thought about ending it all.

And I don't wanna lock in my headcanons too hard on Kris until we know why the hell they are making fountains all the time, but Kris without living in a town of Monsters as the only human, without the loss of Dess, their parents' marriage failing and without them fighting this war with their own soul/us (or just the Angel in my stories lol)? They would be a very different person as well, and I don't know if I could recognize either of these two characters as themselves without these backstories.

Hope that makes sense. :p

Oh and yes, Dess obviously has a changed backstory as well, but we straight up just do not know what she's like anyway lol. All of my writing on her are essentially just headcanons what she'd be like when she lived, pff.

And it's very complicated, I partly made the fanfic that long instead of just writing the romance to portray their character properly, pff. Summed up I'd say they're:

A troubled human who struggles to open up at all and struggles when it comes to physical touch with humans even though they like it.

An overachiever who's pissed off by social norms (why do they have to appear at class at all if they already know everything they're going to learn there and more?); they genuinely believe they're a better person than all other humans (except Frisk).

They'd ragebait others 24/7 if it wouldn't ruin their self-imposed nonchalant aura; they like/love much harder than they'll ever admit. Every here n there their mask slips, but they like acting as if they'd have everything in control even if they don't.

It's much more complicated than that summary, but that's the gist of it, pff.

HEAVY SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER FIVE OF DELTARUNE WEIRD ROUTE related to the way I write Chara. Oh boi I am even more convinced of my headcanons now, fuck yeah.

Sooo. Now that we see how insanely intoxicating the power that "getting stronger" leads to with Noelle, can we find common ground to say that Chara is neither truly evil nor truly good, nor just a victim of circumstance, but something really fucked up in between?

Noelle directly points out how Kris has changed and managed to stop being themselves (thanks to the soul), how she's realizing that she's becoming stronger by listening to them(or rather the soul).

And I think Chara essentially found themselves in a similiar spot, with the difference that even prior to this feeling of getting stronger, they already planned to do crazy shit, unlike Noelle. They were already ready to kill themselves to save monsterkind, for Asriel to take their soul and kill other humans, so it's not like they were a happy child without that.

But man. That chapter 5 route to me really just showed me how insanely intoxicating power is in Deltarune. If it is anything similiar to that in Undertale, I am not surprised that a child who already has hatred in their body towards humanity would so easily grow eager to wield that power.

I like Chara, I realy do, and I am going to continue writing them the way I do, even more convinced of it now. A human who once grown up knows what it is like to stand on top of the world, who knows how good it feels to be a god, but without that power is simply stuck.

A human who knows they are susceptible to power and thus struggles to just live a regular life. They're scared of hurting those they love at this point, because they know what happens once they indulge in that feeling again, in that feeling of power, of becoming stronger, of hurting others.

Big fan. Yes, fucked up route holy shit Toby foxington what are you doing, but really happy that it solidifies my headcanons on Chara.

I just want to say. I wrote chapter 26 of my "Top of the Class, Bottom of the Heart" BEFORE the chapter 5 released (and I only played the weird route yesterday), tehehe. Very happy to see this fucked up weird route to just empower my headcanon.
