"just write a little every day" ok but what if i write nothing for 3 weeks and then suddenly type like i’m being hunted by god
ACAB no exemptions.
oh hey that's me :)
“Europeans live longer because they eat FRESH FOOD!!!!” Bitch, they live on cigarettes. They live longer because they have universal healthcare. I’m convinced America is obsessed with inventing things that are killing us so you don’t have to face the actual problems.
Red wine is good for you, universal healthcare is even better. The French live so long because they’re embalmed by their spite and audacity.
I feel like some of you guys think "bad art" is like someone gluing rhinestones to a water melon, or a guy who made his own armchair out of Ohio license plates, or a trashy romance novel where someone says "the blue-eyed one kissed the brown-eyed one," when in reality bad art is a 1000000 Billion Dollar movie where none of the workers got paid and every single creative decision was market tested to see how lucrative of a profit it could foreseeably make to wow shareholders.
I was trying to think of a way to explain why this is stupid and also ghoulish. I think I came up with something.
Imagine you are an engineer designing body armor. You are tasked with making sure the body armor can stop 10 different types of bullets. In your first attempt, you create body armor that stops 6 of the 10 bullets. You start selling those because that's pretty good protection. You can save some lives while you continue to improve things.
You already know how to stop 6 bullets, but you really want to figure out how to stop the last 4. So you do exactly what you did before, but add a few more layers of Kevlar and a steel plate.
Your boss, RFK Jr., says he wants a test of the new and improved body armor. But he says you have to give one test subject the real thing and the other test subject fake body armor that does nothing.
And you're like, "Hey, can I at least give them the body armor that stops 6 bullets? We already know that gives some protection. We only need to compare the new armor to what we already accomplished."
And RFK says, "No, please shoot a person dead. It's science."
For me this isn't even about empathy or sympathy (though there's value in those as well), it is just straight-up a human rights thing. Once you have decided that there is *any* category of human that can be treated as less-than-human you've said that humanity is conditional, and so are the rights that come with it. You've already lost, you've granted the fascists their point because *you agree with them* that some people don't deserve to be treated like humans.
This is, unironically, why I’m pro-life as well as deeply opposed to the Trump administration and especially how it’s treating immigrants.
All human beings have human rights. Every abuse starts with someone deciding one part of that statement isn’t true: that either a particular group of humans doesn’t count as “real” humans, or that not all humans have base human rights that should always be respected.
If you say the immigrant, the queer person, the fetus, the criminal, the woman, the disabled person, the person of a different race or class or nationality than yours, etc. isn’t human or doesn’t deserve the same human rights as everyone else? You have already agreed with the fascists. You have accepted their basic premise. And you can therefore become complicit in truly terrible things.
It's not just Fascism, it's all totalitarian ideologies. People use the specter of Fascism as a blanket for all types of repressive governments and actions when in fact it can and does come from all political sides.
Especially when the left starts to make rumblings about killing billionaires, eating the rich or starts desiring the unsheathe the guillotine once again, not recognizing that those were terrible times.
The question becomes, do you want the boot off the neck or do you want your boot on the neck?
Reminder that when pro-lifers comment on my posts, I donate to an abortion fund in their name.
Saying that fetuses have rights equal to humans is completely contradictory, actually, because fetal rights are necessarily asserted only at the expense of someone else's rights. In order for fetuses to have the same rights as humans, you are eliminating the right to bodily autonomy of people who can become pregnant.
Pro-lifers, feel free to come back and argue about that with me, today is payday and I worked twenty hours of overtime last week.
Everbody else: if you would like to see a critical analysis of the concept of revolutionary capital punishment from someone who is not attempting to downplay the fascism that is the specific subject of the original post, here is "Against the logic of the guillotine."

I just realized it's literally just the fucking humors again. We've arrived back at the starting line.
The Four Wellness Humors - Hormones, Toxins, Cortisol, and Gut.
All four exist in a delicate balance, the disruption of which must be corrected through systemic cleanses, diet alteration and fasting, prayer and meditation, and the consumption of dubious potions recommended by strangers.
Long ago the four humours lived in harmony

Go Girls Go! | First Dyke March in Washington DC, 1993
I attended Pride in 1995 in Atlanta and "Dykes on Bikes" was marching directly behind "Dykes With Tykes". This immediately created a huge stir among my group of onlookers! Because we all wanted them to join forces as "Dykes On Bikes With Tykes On Trikes".
These two groups were followed by Digital Queers--"We're here, we're queer, we have EMAIL!"
I doubt there was a single person at that march who hadn't been called a homophobic slur--and that includes our straight allies! But we defanged those words. We changed what they meant to us, because even gay or lesbian is a slur when someone screams it in your face.
This. This is solidarity in shared reclamation. "they can't say it"
They're SAYING IT TOGETHER as part of a UNIFIED FRONT. Rather than letting others tear them into disparate little bickering subgroups.
I want you to remember:
The fascists hate you too and they just will pretend otherwise until after they've killed the rest of us, before they turn on you.
Thanks to whoever tried, but I knew they'd never allow it.
Let's do it the old fashioned way. Spread it far and wide.
Reminder: you can't be the whole wall against stopping fascism by yourself. Nobody can. But you damn sure can be a brick.
There's a lot of good comments and tags in the notes, but this one is very important, I feel like it deserves some emphasis.
Part of how authoritarianism works is telling you that you can't stop it. And you can't stop it by yourself. But it wants to stop the train of thought there and let you fall into despair.
You need to remember the next part: you don't have to stop it by yourself.
You're not alone. Take care of your community and let your community take care of you. Supporting each other is so vital.
Canada Post warns its financial situation is so grim it could run out of operating money in less than a year, citing declining revenue and i
Canada Post said Friday its financial situation is so grim it could run out of operating funds in less than a year, after the Crown corporation posted another whopping pre-tax loss of $748 million in 2023.
In its annual report released late Friday afternoon, the company predicts "larger, unsustainable losses in future years" without major changes to its operating model.
"Even with Canada Post's recently proposed stamp price increase, the Corporation projects that, without additional borrowing and refinancing, it will fall below its required operating and reserve cash requirements by early 2025," the report says.
Canada Post has been losing money since 2018. In the last six years, its losses have totalled $3 billion. [...]

It didn't lose money, it costs money. It's a service, and a pretty fucking fundamental one to have a functioning country. PAY for it.
Postal service costs money and was never meant to be self-sustaining. We need a functional postal system. I know this is Canada and not the US, but the same applies in the US. FUND VITAL SERVICES!
Once, just *once* I want to hear someone report on how much the military lost last year.
Ey yo
this is propaganda
the postal worker's union contract is under negotiation right now
they're using this to squeeze workers, lay off tons of staff, and "maximize routes" for "efficiency"
They've cut postal worker's extended health benefits. they haven't raised the allowance for appropriate seasonal gear in years, they want to cut entry level wages and slow the rate of wage increases and they don't want to increase overall wages as a much needed shot in the arm for the workers, who are getting squeezed by skyrocketing housing costs, utilities, insurance, groceries, everything.
But do you want to know how they came up with this number? Canada post built a HUGE plant in Ontario to change mail distribution in a way that is more money for the executive and more (uncompensated) labor for the workers. they are including the entire price of building that plant in that astonishing, unprecendented, extinction level loss. IT'S A LIE.
have you heard about Canada's 52 weeks of maternity leave, where on return, you get your job back, exactly as is?
you know why canada has that?
Canada Post letter carriers.
Do you know why Canada Post went on strike last time? Official reason is wages. The real reason is that urban carriers get facilities, company vehicles, and far better working conditions than rural carriers, who work out of their own cars and didn't get properly compensated for that, and truly shit conditions for work
urban letter carriers are mostly men.
the majority of rural letter carriers are women.
So the urban letter carriers refused a deal that was decent for them and shitty for rural carriers and used their power to get a better deal for their union brothers and sisters delivering to the farthest reaches of Canada, including the packages from Private couriers like UPS and fedex. Yeah! if you send a package to Canada and it's remote, like in the north, they just fly that jawn to the Canada post depot. A postie delivers that package, not a UPS guy.
This is BULLSHIT. Don't fall for it. Support the union!
EY, YO, I AM BACK
GO HAVE A PEE AND REFILL YOUR TEA THIS IS A LONG ONE I want you to know that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers voted *overwhelmingly in favor* of a strike, with over 95% of urban and rural carriers voting yes to strike action in response to a fucking awful contract offer by Canada Post Corporation on Septermber 26, 2024
Every time I talked to a member of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers I asked them, "Are you gonna go vote?/Have you voted yet?" and it prompted a five minute conversation that started with "You bet your ass I'm gonna vote!/You bet your ass I voted!" (and then a bit later "hold on, are you a postie too?")
The negotiations have been a mountain of nonsense and the posties are not having it. Here's what Canada Post Corporation offered after NINE MONTHS OF TALKS:
Canada Post is offering the workers a 10% raise over a four year period. (2.5% per year.) That's not even enough to cover the rate of inflation.
Canada Post Employees have a pension plan with a 7.6 billion dollar surplus. Canada Post Corporation is attempting to take that away.
First, they're trying to gut it from all new hires with a "defined contribution" plan which will screw them
that move will absolutely reduce the pension fund for everyone overall.
Already retired posties are at a big risk, and since they're retired they can't do anything about it.
Canada Post Corporation wants to screw over rural carriers - again.
The execs want to change the way Canada Post handles mail and how all letter carriers do the work of carrying mail and packages to all Canadians.
This means that they want to cut routes, *again.*
But they're also burning the day to day structure of a letter carrier's work to the ground
every single letter carrier's job will be more inefficient
it will also take away control of how they handle the job of actually delivering the mail
Yes, that means your residential mail delivery service will get worse, since they're looking to run an enshittification combo at top speed
and while they're busy eliminating the quality of working conditions for all letter carriers, that means they are also deep-sixing the quality of services for all business customers.
Their plan for urban carriers is *awful.* Their plan for rural carriers is *worse* - and remember what I said before! Most rural letter carriers are women.
The Corporation also refuses to extend the job security entitlements urban carriers have to the rural carriers, so again they are making this job worse for women.
The Corporation wants to cut leave entitlements. (That's booking Vacation and personal days.) they want a drastic cut in leave entitlements to new employees and to reduce the number of available vacation weeks to everyone, regardless of seniority.
They also want to run "leaner" staffing which will make it harder for Postal employees to take short notice personal days and probably become a reason to discipline a postal worker who used to be able to use a personal day to handle a sudden illness or emergency
They're also cutting benefits. Again, they want to offer a shitty deal to new employees with "flexible" benefits plans that shift insurance risk from the Corporation to the letter carrier, and drastically increase the costs of workers with health conditions that require constant maintenance or have multiple needs:
do you need daily medications? regular doctor's appointments? physiotherapy? mental health care? multiple disability aids like glasses or hearing aids? Does your partner need these things? do your kids?
Too bad, chump! The Corporation wants to pass these costs onto the worker.
oh, and new employees need to work 1000 hours before this kick in the teeth--sorry, flexible benefit plan--gets activated for new hires. assuming a 40 hour work week*, that's six months of work for not one penny in health benefits.
But that's assuming a 40 hour work week, which is not a safe assumption, BECAUSE
The Corporation also wants to own their worker's lives!
If the Corporation gets their way, all employees will never know what they're doing and when
not what days of the week they're working,
not what starting time of the day they're working,
not what route they're going to deliver,
not how the mail for that route is sorted,
or even if they will continue to be full time 40 hour a week employees.
And that's not even all of the Corporation's mustache twirling charade of an "offer."
Here's what the union counter-offered on behalf of the urban carriers on October 7th, 2024:
Wage increases of 12.65% in Year 1 and 4.5% in Year 2, with further discussions on the length of the collective agreement and subsequent wage increases
COLA payments to be rolled into the basic wage rate
The full elimination of SSD (this is the part where letter carriers have their ability to manage their own routes taken away. It stands for Separate Sort and Delivery, and it is *so fucking dumb.*)
Time to prepare and deliver Neighbourhood Mail and changes to Article 50 and Appendices “V-1” and “D” to address route length and overburdening
Improved staffing provisions, including forcing CPC to fill vacancies monthly, the deletion of Clause 39.04, improvements to Clause 39.05, creation of Group 1 relief positions, and changes to Appendix “P” to address local staffing issues
Increase STDP payments from 70% to 80% of our wages and increase Injury on Duty payments to 88%
Add 10 paid medical days to our 7 paid personal days, and allow medical days to be banked
Significant improvements to our group benefits plans, including increased coverage for health specialists, fertility treatment, gender-affirming care, (EMPHASIS FUCKING MINE BUT YAAAASSS!) vision care, and more
Improved rights for Temporary employees, including access to group benefits plans when working continuous assignments of 6 months or more
Precautionary cessation of work for pregnant and breastfeeding employees
Rotations of duties for Groups 3 and 4
Paid meal and rest periods for workers working 5 hours or more
Improved protections against technological change
Improved protections against contracting out
Improved protections against harassment
Contract in cleaning, highway services, Combined Urban Services, and other work CUPW members can perform
Service expansion projects, including postal banking, senior and other check ins, and an e-commerce platform
Here's what the Union counter-offered on behalf of the rural carriers:
Job Security rights for rural carriers in line with the Urban collective agreement
Wage increases of 12.65% in Year 1 and 4.5% in Year 2, with further discussions on the length of the agreement and subsequent wage increases
COLA payments to be rolled into the basic wage rate
An Hourly Rate system that meets the needs of all RSMCs
Maximize 8-hour routes
Pensionable hours for every hour paid at straight time for regular employees
Corporate vehicles for all RSMCs, starting with employees who request one (REMEMBER WHEN I SAID THE WOMEN WORKING AS RURAL CARRIERS USE THEIR OWN CARS? THEY STILL DO!)
Improved staffing and coverage of absences, including: ensuring CPC is responsible for covering all absences, eliminating barriers in the creation of OCRE groupings, and bar charts for RSMCs
Guaranteed 40-hour work week for PREs
Meal and rest periods in line with Group 2 in the Urban collective agreement
Increase STDP payments from 70% to 80% of our wages and increase Injury on Duty payments to 88%
Add 10 medical days to our 7 personal days, and allow medical days to be banked
Significant improvements to our group benefits plans, including increased coverage for health specialists, fertility treatment, gender-affirming care, vision care, and more
Improved rights for OCREs in line with those of Urban temporary employees
No recovery of alleged PCI overpayments
Precautionary cessation of work for pregnant and breastfeeding employees
Improved protections against technological change
RSMC involvement in service expansion projects
No contracting out of RSMC work
The union has offered multiple suggestions and strategies to increase Canada Post's revenue, improve and expand Canada Post's service, and continue to deliver mail and packages everywhere in Canada.
Not one suggestion has ever been considered.
It's like corporate wants Canada Post to fail, and let every Canadian suffer. They're content to say "We have done nothing, and we're all out of ideas."
Canada's amazing parental leave policies--policies that benefit every working Canadian starting or adding to their families--Canada Post Union carriers did that.
all those packages that UPS, Fedex, and Amazon claim to ship to Everywhere? Nope. Canada Post Union Carriers are the ones who actually deliver those packages to the most remote parts of Canada.
It's a backbone of public service that could easily add even better service to Canadians everywhere with banking services, small business online payment services (I would sign up for that *so fast.* I absolutely would be first in line to get online payment service processed by Canada Post, I'm not joking)
But the people in charge seem strangely intent on doing what they have done ever since the Harper government - make it worse, for everyone, for ever-increasing expenses.
They're not just finding ways to pay Canada Post letter carriers less by offering insulting "wage increases" that aren't even at the rate of inflation. That alone is effectively a pay cut, but it's more than that. They're grabbing cash straight out of postie's pockets. They're chipping away at their health insurance and pensions, they're cutting paid vactions, paid personal days, they're just wage thefting left and right AND they want to steal your postie's leisure time. and they're making mail services worse for everyone in Canada as they implement policies that mean no postal worker who delivers to your home or workplace has the ability or even the knowledge to help you if you're expecting something important.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers have changed the working life of all Canadians for the better through their vigorous actions for worker's rights. Canada Post Corporation wants to break that historic power. Your letter carriers are resisting this shit with all their might.
Letter carriers need your support, and Canada Post Executive need to listen to the innovations they keep offering to improve service to all Canadians.
We deserve what posties want to do for us, not what the suits want for themselves! To that end, I am asking you to write letters (no postage required!) and mail them to:
The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos Minister of Public Services and Procurement House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
Jean-Yves Duclos is the Minister responsible for Canada Post. He oversees the board. At the very least, he did nothing to object to the frankly shameful offer Canada Post Corporation had the nerve to put forward.
If you are a constituent of Québec riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because he works directly for you as your MP.
The Honourable Chrystia Freeland Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
If you are a constituent of University-Rosedale riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because she works directly for you as your MP.
The Honourable Steven MacKinnon Minister of Labour and Seniors House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
If you are a constituent of Gatineau riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because he works directly for you as your MP.
OKAY BUT THIS LETTER WRITING JAZZ IS AWESOME, WHO ELSE
I'm glad you asked! What if you also wrote to these members of the Federal NDP who are the Critics of the Liberals I listed above:
Rachel Blaney Critic - Veterans Affairs; Public Services and Procurement House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
If you are a constituent of North Island/Powell River riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because she works directly for you as your MP.
Matthew Green Critic - Employment and Workforce Development; Labour; Ethics; Deputy Critic - Public Services and Procurement House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
If you are a constituent of Hamilton Centre riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because he works directly for you as your MP.
Don Davies Critic - Finance; Deputy Critic - International Development House of Commons Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
If you are a constituent of Vancouver-Kingsway riding, please be certain to introduce yourself as such, because he works directly for you as your MP.
What do you write in a letter to an MP?
Be Polite.
Keep it short. to a single page is best.
Make your letter end with a question that you expect to be answered by them.
If you want some ideas about how to write the letter:
Salutation Dear Minister Lastname: (colon for formal correspondence, this salutation works for everyone on this list; if you like you can make it "Dear Deputy Prime Minister Freeland" in her specific case)
Introduce yourself as
their constituent, or
a constituent in a Liberal or NDP riding, or
a constituent in a riding where the NDP or the Bloc candidate have a chance of winning, or
your membership in the Liberal party (if writing to a Liberal), or
your membership in the NDP (if writing to an NDP minister)
(SPECIAL NOTE: ACTUALLY BE A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING OF THE FEDERAL PARTY YOU CLAIM. If they decide they have time today they can look it up. Don't lie. Be impeccable in this letter)
Also add that you are
a Canada Post customer and/or
a small business customer, or
the decision maker of a business that could be using Canada Post business services, but hasn't/changed to a competitor
Explain that you support the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and they deserve a fair deal for their work.
Briefly talk about why you value Canada Post letter carriers, as a residential customer or as a part of your workplace. If you want some things to say, I have a few points below that you can use if you like:
In 2020, Canada Post employees were considered essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic
While many Canadians stayed at home, unable to go to work or school, unable to even gather with others outside their household, Canada Post workers could not do the same
The response of Canada Post employees was to work diligently to bring Canadians mail and packages throughout that time
Letter carriers were in effect the supply chain for millions of Canadians who needed essentials like medicine, home schooling supplies, business correspondence and goods
Sometimes, a Canada Post letter carrier was the only person Canadians saw who wasn't in a zoom meeting
Letter carriers took this responsibility so seriously that they quickly agreed to renew their old contract mid-pandemic until Dec 2023/Jan 2024 so Canadians would continue to get their mail
They made this agreement twelve days before the election on September 20th, demonstrating trust in a Liberal government that called an election to get a mandate from Canadians to handle the COVID-19 pandemic as they had been, with CERB and EI
(The reward Canada Post Corporation offered the brothers and sisters of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for their service, sacrifice, and commitment to Canadians through an unprecedented crisis is the miserly, embarrassing wage theft 'offer' tendered on September 26, 2024 after months of talks with the union that I described above.)
Describe how you view the offer Canada Post Corporation gave to the union
Is it...
a breathtaking demonstration of callousness and greed?
a shocking betrayal of the trust Canada Post workers gave the Liberal government in 2021?
a disquieting sign of Canada becoming rather less than the country we were taught Canada was as children?
fuckin' ignorant? (no don't say that one, don't swear in your letter)
morally wrong?
a reflection of cynical laziness and a failure on the part of the executive to act on multiple suggestions the union has offered to make Canada Post financially viable?
leading you to believe that voting for a party eager to make life easier for ordinary Canadians while staying in pursuit of a just society (definitely throw Pierre Elliott Trudeau's catchphrases straight in their faces--there is an ideal that you expect them to live up to)
you could conclude with "'tis not too late to build a better world" for Tommy Banks quote bonus points
Close with a question
How will you make a wage, working conditions, and benefit agreement that is fair to Canada Post employees in a time of skyrocketing costs for housing, food, and utilities? (remind them that ordinary Canadians are in crisis and they expect their government to fix these problems, not use them as an excuse to exploit Canadians)
What action will you take to improve working conditions, worker pay, and employee benefits in recognition of the dedication and service Canada Post employees gave us all without hesitation during the pandemic? (remind them how Canada Post workers were on the front line during COVID and their efforts are worthy of respect. They didn't get CERB. They didn't get Business Bailout money. They worked through the whole damn thing.)
What actions will you take to repair the broken trust Canada Post employees gave to the Liberal government in 2021 by quickly agreeing to waiting to extend their contract twelve days before a federal election? (this is a good one if you're implying that you'll vote NDP instead of liberal in the next election if you live in a riding where the NDP are competitive)
What are the reasons Canada Post has not made any effort to increase revenue by reviving the bank Canada Post operated from confederation to 1968, when Canadian Tire, Loblaw's, and Tim Hortons all have banking services, including credit cards? (this is a good one if you're pushing on blaming the executive's bad decisions for Canada Post's decline)
What are the reasons Canada Post Corporation has not made any effort to begin involving Canada Post in delivering community supports that would help an ever-growing number of ageing Canadians to stay in their homes longer and more cheaply than institutional care? (this is a good one to use with the "during the pandemic, a postie was one of the few people canadians saw while they were staying at home" point)
What is the reason Canada Post Corporation is choosing to further damage service levels to their small business customers by removing their relationship to the Canada Post brand through their regular contact with the same letter carrier every day, rather than moving to innovate and expand services for small business customers? (this is a good one if you're any kind of a business owner in Canada)
How will you make Canada Post an appealing business partner for me instead of making your services worse with these service cuts and faithless treatment of some of the most trusted workers in Canada? (If they're going to act like self-serving capitalists, this is just returning that energy)
How will you ensure that the Canadian government is not allowing Canada Post to widen the equality gap that women have fought to close, year by year, by correcting the unfair and exploitative contract offer for rural mail carriers, who are mostly women?
What will you do to reverse what is effectively a hefty pay cut, the removal of established benefits, and the sabotage of the future financial security of aging and retired postal workers by de-funding the pension they trusted in? SIGNOFF
I hate this part, but here's a guide to signoffs: Sincerely, (pretty neutral, always polite, no need to be warmer than this)
Best, (kinda on that line between neutral and catty, it picks up the vibe from the letter)
Regards, (fuck you, fuck your job, fuck your horse, I hope you get a rash from your deodorant) Your name Your federal electoral district
if you like you can write a lil note on the back of the envelope that says something like "support letter carriers" or "solidarity with CUPW" so every postie who handles it knows that you're calling for support for them!
YOU ARE AT THE END OF THIS MESSAGE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. PLEASE HELP ME GET THE WORD OUT. REBLOG THIS. TELL YOUR CANADIANS. WRITE YOUR LETTERS. DON'T PUT STAMPS ON THEM. DROP THEM IN THE MAIL. TELL A POSTIE YOU SUPPORT THEM, OR LEAVE A NOTE FOR THEM TO FIND IF YOU ARE SHY. TELL EVERYONE WHO HAD A BABY AND GOT A YEAR OFF WORK FOR PARENTAL LEAVE AND THEIR JOB BACK THAT LETTER CARRIERS NEED THEM TO RETURN THE FAVOR.
SOLIDARITY TO THE WORKERS. SOLIDARITY WITH POSTIES.
