Kakashi thanks him quietly when he says he'll pour them both a glass, and then hums in response to his subtle prying about his recent stay in the hospital. He thinks about not answering, but the medics are such horrible fucking gossips that he supposes Iruka might already know all about it, or know some version of it further twisted from the truth by the rest of the hens in the village bars and shops that have nothing better to do than speculate about him and his life, for some reason.
Reason being that he's still somewhat of a celebrity, despite his best efforts. Son of the disgraced White Fang, one of the most decorated jounin the village has ever seen- and he makes it easy, too, he supposes, with his standoffish and occasionally antisocial behavior.
It's not antisocial to join a cute little chunnin for dinner, is it?
"... Yeah," he finally replies, lamely, after realizing he's been lost in his own head staring at Iruka's furniture for entirely too long. "Mission went wrong, I've been on medical leave." And technically the only reason he's been in and out of the hospital is because he keeps sneaking out. "'M fine, now. Just uh... Getting back into shape."
He looks from his wet pants to the clean floor of Iruka's small apartment, and then to the door of the bathroom. It's only a few steps. It'd be easy to clean up after himself, but the thought of trying to bend over or even move a towel around with his feet makes him a little nauseous, so he decides to strip out of his pants right there in front of Iruka's door. His balance is fine, despite the shiny new gnarly looking scar curving up his thigh and disappearing beneath his briefs. Thinking little of it, he carries his pants into the bathroom and tosses them over the shower curtain rod, strips out of his damp over shirt and vest and hangs those up too while he's at it, dries off, and hunts down some pants.
He wonders if he would give Iruka permission to peruse his sparse apartment in a search for a change of clothes. Probably not. He wonders what that means, and then decides it probably doesn't matter. Iruka is... known to be quite friendly, and Kakashi is not.
He shuffles into the kitchen awkwardly in a pair of pants that are maybe a little short on him and his under shirt, which leaves his shoulders bare. He's not worried about the tattoo- the fact that he's in ANBU is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in the village.
"Are you certain there's nothing I can do to help?" He asks as he makes himself comfortable sitting on the counter, not quite in Iruka's way but not quite out of it either. "Other than sitting here looking pretty and providing moral support, I mean."
