Iruka : If anyone, and I mean anyone, wakes me up at 3am on a school night to go look at the damn sky they will be removed indefinitely from my life.

Kakashi: So that idea is off of the list.

I think Iruka would be "open to polyamory" in the way that like... a dog is just happy to get attention whenever they can from their person... and still gets jealous when they see their person giving someone else attention but sulks about it alone instead of making it a big deal.

Iruka is buff af, he's got a sleeper build imho. He runs every day, and he has a routine for full body workouts that he cycles through weekly. He knows that he is basically on the reserves and if anything were to go to shit (which I know it will...) that he would be called upon for missions again. Also exercise is one of the only times that Iruka can empty his mind, and it is very relaxing for him. When he's not busy teaching, or hanging out with Naruto, he is probably exercising somewhere (or sleeping)

piggybacking off of that and thinking how iruka probably tries to stall the genin exam as long as he can even for students that could easily take & pass it at very young ages because he just cannot accept that a kid as young as 6-9 can be considered an adult soldier by the state. i imagine he gets flack for it too, but he does it anyway. iruka saw what happened to child prodigies and he does not want that for any of his students, even if they hate him for it.

thinking about how badly iruka wants to treat his students just like the kids they are, but he can't because they aren't just students they are soldiers in training. the best thing he can do for them is to teach them how to survive in the world they are currently living in. i think iruka is still a little soft on them, esp when they are first starting out, but as they get closer to the genin exam iruka hardens because he has to and it is exhausting. he just wants them to be able to be kids. he recognizes that he too has a hand in the whole child-soldier ordeal, and it definitely doesn't keep him up at night sometimes (it does).
