PSA: DON’T DO THIS SHIT
This is a terrible idea for a few reasons.
Riot shields are super heavy and if you try to grab one without wearing anything to protect your hands, your fingers are gonna get crushed.
The cops aren’t just going to let you grab their shit. Unless you have a physique like Brock Lesnar and you know how to fight somebody dressed up in full riot gear, if you try this, you are absolutely going to get your ass kicked.
Even if you are able to knock the cop to the ground, chances are you’ll be flanked by at least two of their comrades.
I get that the person who made this post had good intentions, and all they wanted to do was find ways to help the protesters fight back against cops, but that doesn’t make this okay. There are probably a bunch of people who have read this post and are planning on pulling this stunt at the next protest they go to. Every single one of those people will at best get beaten within an inch of their lives and thrown in jail, and at worst get beaten to death. To quote @sam_kriss on twitter: “Don’t give advice that will kill people.”
One of my worst uncles is an ex-Marine, ex-police, ex-prison guard, who since his back went out and forced him to retire sits around all day watching Hoarders and trying to terrorise the people around him into giving him “enough respect”. When I was about 14, and he thought he was detecting the signs of a “future protest attendee” in me, he got out the riot shield he still kept in the garage, stood behind it and braced himself, then challenged myself, my two brothers, and two of my cousins to try to shift him even a little bit. All five of us did our best to turn it over, break it, or kick it hard enough (three of us regularly broke boards at our taekwondo classes, which we foolishly thought might help) to budge him even a little bit. None of it worked. We failed to even get a grip on it without him immediately turning the shield into a blunt weapon to shove us off, hard enough for us to be left on our backs in the dirt. The intended lesson was “even in a group, you will never be stronger or better defended than even a very restrained riot cop, so don’t even bother going to protests”.
Of course, there are other factors in why he laid all 5 of us on the floor using only a riot shield, the biggest one (besides being a grown man and all 5 us all being teenagers or preteens) being real combat experience. You get good at fighting by getting into real fights. The cops may be ex-military or involved in prison security. If you do not regularly, seriously, physically fight people, you will not beat someone who has been in a whole bunch of real fights, especially not someone with a riot shield. Especially not with a tactic like “just lift from the bottom”. “Five cool hacks to get good at fighting cops” do not exist. What does exist is plenty of resources for recognising cop tactics, things like “earliest warning signs police are forming a kettle”, that do help you to make the best tactical retreats you can when the time comes. There are further resources - look up the most local ones possible - for supplies to have on hand and contacts to make, to survive being kettled and/or arrested, and resources for helping provide first aid in the field. They are not as sexy and cool as the idea of ending up in a viral video of someone decking a cop, but as a general rule, the less “sexy” the tactic the more likely it is to be something people are saying because it’s actually useful. Real protest advice is not likely to make you look cool! If something seems like it will bring you personal glory in a protest, it’s 99% likely just a stupid idea that will get you and others hurt, and probably being deliberately spread for that reason.
Just a heads up
You know those “donate by watching” videos going around for BLM? I’ve made a list of all of em I could find. 8 of the 28 I found have been removed from youtube. This happened around the same time I believe, as they were all there mere hours ago.
Basically YouTube is marking these videos as spam and removing them because people are looping them continuously and not playing any other videos in between them which gets the user’s account flagged for possible bot activity, and when it happens en masse YouTube’s algorithms determine the video in question muat be a marketing scam using bots to generate revenue off the ads …
You have to play 3-5 different videos between these fundraiser ones if you’re going to keep replaying them because otherwise they will keep getting flagged and removed!
it’s kind of established that there is no “get out of a beatdown” role you can take other than being a cop yourself, right? media, medics, lawyers, all fair game.
Turns out that cops are just dudes who really like beating the shit out of defenceless people. There’s really no other qualification.
For those who hate lawyers I do want to point out that legal observers are sent by the National Lawyer’s Guild, which is the primary organization providing pro-bono legal defense to protesters and black community leaders who have been jailed to try to derail the movement. So, these are not the lawyers you hate.
Just to reiterate: the entire point of NLG legal observers is to deter unlawful or improper behavior on the part of the police / law enforcement personnel–and to document such behavior, if they aren’t successful in deterring it. In the U.S., they have to be trained and certified. Their job is to help you protest to the full extent of your constitutional rights and with minimal interaction with the criminal justice system. I cannot stress the extent to which they are on your side.
The National Lawyer’s Guild’s motto is “human rights over property interests” and was created as a direct fuck you to conservative and exclusionary bar associations. Their dues are way cheaper than other bar associations and you can join even as a jailhouse lawyer (a prisoner who teaches themselves the law to advocate for others).
And just because this is literally my job: your negative perception of lawyers is literally propaganda. The portrayal of defense attorneys as evil for defending criminals, the idea that suing people is something only rich or very greedy people do, the complete erasure of legal aid as a thing that exists, are all designed to make you afraid to advocate for your legal rights.
^ ^ ^
Who was it that taught us that the defense attorney - a person whose job is to ensure justice is done - is immoral and untrustworthy? Who taught us to hate lawyers - the people who know the law? Why do we believe that justice begins and ends with unregulated enforcers who are not required to know the law?

multiple witnesses at the LA protest had said that the people causing the most damage and specifically the person setting fire to a police vehicle were undercover police
protesters had been trying to stop them and they seem to laugh and keep their havoc
one person even share a video of a police officer getting out of a van in civilian clothes affirming that he was from “CNN” only for the protester to confront the cops on the van
so be careful, they are infiltrating all protest to escalate the situation
for people who are unaware of why the riots in minneapolis started happening, here’s the facts:
it wasn’t george floyd’s protesters who started reacting violently; it was the cops.
the protest was peaceful until the cops showed up in riot gear, and started using water cannons, followed up by tear gas and rubber bullets. i got videos from friends who were there, of people screaming and running away from the cops shooting the water cannons, rubber bullets and throwing tear gas at them. they were even shooting at the protesters dragging people away to get medical attention.
speaking of medical attention, dispatch refused to provide any medical attention to the protesters. people literally had to drive their bleeding friends to the hospital because they refused to send ambulances.
cops are using non-lethal weapons in a lethal way. they shot rubber bullets into people’s heads and injured them. there’s dozens of photos of protesters with bleeding head wounds from the rubber bullets.
multiple people used police scanners and heard that there were undercover cops pretending to be violent protesters who were throwing rocks and whatnot at the police, with dozens of eyewitness accounts confirming that information.
the person who instigated all the chaos last night (it was a fire at an autozone) with the looting and burning buildings is highly suspected to be an undercover cop pretending to be a protester, because the video of him keeps getting taken down. protesters tried to stop him but couldn’t because he had a hammer and they were scared for their safety.
the cops jammed cell phone towers and cut live streams to interrupt broadcasts and to prevent people from seeing what was really going on and who actually started the violence.
the cops lied about protesters being armed and about throwing rocks and are literally trying to continue the violence happening and yet no one is holding them accountable for that.
and during all this, the cop that murdered george floyd still hasn’t been arrested. he has had more than ten complaints filed against him and was involved in three other civilian shootings in the past. and yet he’s still out free along with his three other buddies involved, probably sitting on his couch while all this chaos is happening.
so don’t get it twisted. the cops just want to change the narrative to make it look like they’re the wounded and righteous party, when they’re the ones who started reacting violently in the first place and are still acting violently. so don’t you ever forget who started this tragedy and murdered someone, and who are continuing to react to the situation with violence.

you can donate to the minnesota freedom fund to bail out protestors here. I donated $10. if you see this, will you either match my donation or reblog to spread it?
in the wake of yet another black person being murdered by police, here’s a list of relevant fundraisers and organizations that could use your support right now.
this is specifically a call to action for fellow white people. if you’re white and you’re in any way able to, donate.
George Floyd’s memorial fund
Minnesota Freedom Fund: “We value a society that values its people, their freedom and recognizes their contribution to the greater good. A society that does not condition pretrial freedom on class or identity, that has ended mass incarceration, and that invests in restorative and transformative justice.”
Black Visions Collective, an org that strives to “shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. We aim to center our work in healing and transformative justice principles, intentionally develop our organizations core DNA to ensure sustainability, and develop Minnesota’s emerging Black leadership to lead powerful campaigns.”
Reclaim the Block, which “organizes Minneapolis community and city council members to move money from the police department into other areas of the city’s budget that truly promote community health and safety. We believe health, safety and resiliency exist without police of any kind. We organize around policies that strengthen community-led safety initiatives and reduce reliance on police departments.”

kinda sucks for Zelda that she went to three sacred springs and heard nothing whereas Link can roll up to any dinky old goddess statue and Hylia’s just like, “oh hey man, what’s good, got any orbs?”
to be fair, link IS the goddesses chosen hero while zelda is just her reincarnation. I mean, if you peaced the fuck out and your body regularly tried to talk to you, would you respond? Fuck no, you just got rid of that shit. But that twink you like calls? hell yeah pick up
