stumbled upon that video this morning, and i got reminded of that insane race. i think everyone should watch it - charles leclerc winning the f2 sprint race in bahrain in 2017, managing an overtakes masterclass people still talk about to this day. that win also gave him the lead of the f2 championship, that he went on to win that year. ♡
every week f1 fans love to talk about why charles will never be wdc and their arguments are....

I think Alexandra should be allowed to have Leo (and her husband) bite the ankles of everyone who doesn’t treat her with common decency and respect.
Like, let the girl live her life. All that matters is that she and Charles are happy with the way they choose for their life to be. And the people that believe they are owed explanations into their life and that she should be hiding away if she didn’t want people to talk, they are awful people that has zero respect or even a shred of human decency. Miserable people that hate her for nothing but their own delusions, because in their mind Alexandra is a part of what has “ruined” F1. They see this “wag” inclusion in F1 and the TV broadcast, and decide that Alexandra is the fault of it even though she has done nothing but show up to support her husband. She has not asked for this, she simply wanted to be with Charles. But people want to hate her instead of hating the men making these decisions on what to show. And what a load of fucking misogyny. I mean the people that are obsessed with hating her and Leo genuinely need to see a psychiatrist, because that is an incredibly unhealthy mental state. I hope for all the best for their family, because I want them to be happy. We live in a world so filled with hatred and anger, so isn’t it lovely when people find someone that makes them happy?

I’ll be honest- I don’t know much about Alexandria at all, beyond what I see on Tumblr. I’m not into wag culture, and her lifestyle/fashion doesn’t really interest me. I only say that because it is. so. easy. to. ignore. These people that also claim to be against wag culture and then apparently obsessively follow and take issue with her every move are genuinely pathetic to me. You are literally wasting your life raging over an influencer who has no idea you exist and who has no impact on your life whatsoever besides the attention you willingly give her… How is that not deeply sad to these people?
And also…people making snarky comments about her age and (possible) choice to be pregnant should understand that it’s not the high and mighty feminist commentary they think it is… It’s parasocial, arrogant, and weird.

The way people and this sport are dragging out the discussion of Charles defending Oscar is so dumb. If it was your favorite driver who did it you wouldn't care. Oscar was not ahead of Charles. They were approaching a corner, he was always going to move a bit to take the corner. Oscar was never forced off onto the grass, he chose to stay there when he had plenty of curb still to move and avoid contact
i do find it utterly hilarious they changed the sporting guidelines after max supposedly terrorized them so then they made it practically impossible to overtake from the outside and now another guy has the nerve to also utilize the guidelines as they're written they're mad again it's not what they want
maybe we shouldn't put it up to the drivers how about that? they're all extremely selfish individuals who want priority you can criticize governing bodies as much as you want but at the end of the day these little changes that make racing worse are requested by the very same people complaining about them
Ah btw if you think Charles "moved under breaking" you can just watch the on board of the race and you can see pretty well that he doesn't move his steering wheel towards Oscar in any type of way, if nothing he moves the wheel in the opposite direction to take the right racing line a it is his right to do.
The fact on the matter is that Oscar was never going to overtake Charles in that turn, tried anyway and when he saw it wasn't going to happen he tried to back out but was not fast enough and find out what happened. He was never alongside, or at least with the front axel alongside the mirrors, the Ferrari in the entry of the apex so his options were 2: back down and try another time or try and find out what happens when you try to go for a nonexistent gap. Oscar went with option 2 and had the consequences of option 2 because I honestly believe that if he just waited a little bit more he could have had a fair shot at a podium, at worst a 4th place was in the cards without damage.
We saw plenty of times where the same move got unpunished, some of them with Oscar in Charles place, so trying to make it a punishable act now is stupid and counterproductive. Punishing hard racing is not going to better the sport ever, it only serves to make the sport flatter and boring to watch and it will make the "22 people who drives in funny shaped circles" reality because no one would dare overtake the other.
people do not understand that charles’ signature move is to leave his opponent JUST enough space, nothing more and nothing less. not leclerc’s fault that other drivers don’t know how to deal with it 😭

he wasn't even alongside him he had no right to even complain he simply expected to breeze by the same way he did to hamilton and was shocked that wasn't the case
you can argue charles give him as little space as possible but that space was still there and the front axle of his car was not ahead of car 16 just before they got to the corner, therefore according to the shit rules you drivers agreed upon, this was 100% the correct rule application and the stewards for once proceeded with logic
