Vehicles are not my strong point, but here we are! The four main OCs in my Slumberling AU and both of their modes!

While Goldenrod and Cache's vehicle modes are purely freehand and not based on any particular earth vehicles (since their interactions are mainly on Cybertron) Solder's is based off of a three-wheeled "spyder" motorcycle, and Spinout's is based off of a Toyota Corolla.

I notice now that Spinout's colors are very much like Buffalo Crush's from MCB, but we're not going to discuss that at this time—

I know Boulder's supposed to be down on one knee in this frame, but that's about the height difference I'd imagine Blades to be between this canon form and his form in Stolen Childhoods. He's quite a bit taller than his canon form because of the extra cabin size.

Fic Update!

It seems that getting to the monastery is going to be near-impossible due to a blizzard going on up there blocking all of the roads. I mean, Blastrain could probably fly over the drifts, but in those conditions, he could easily get lost or his joints could freeze up… I don’t know.”

“And the storm’s not going to let up anytime soon.”

“It’s just sitting there, they said. No idea how long or how much snow will fall before it lets up… I don’t want to disappoint Jun and the Cardbots, but I just don’t know.”

Boulder hummed softly, arms crossed. “So what we need is some way up to the monastery that doesn’t require roads or flying… Are there rails?”

“There’s an old railway line used just for fun runs in the warmer months, yes, but even then, Blastrain could get stuck in those drifts.”

“Then we need someone who can guide them through the snow, someone who knows how to work in heavy snow conditions in a similar area… Like Edward.”

I always hear about Cybertronians having a HUD, and being able to send messages and other things like that in fics.

I've always been curious what that looks like? Fics briefly go over it; not that I look for them to overly explain in the scene what it is. But it leaves me curious about how that looks and how it works?

Mostly this is me asking for my own fic reference. And also because I love reading others' takes on Cybertronian biology and functionality.

This is a canon view of Boulder's HUD in Transformers Rescue Bots—

—And Bumblebee's in Robots in Disguise 2015.

In fics, you can do kinda however you want, but these are the two visual representations I could think of on the spot. May be more out there.

So it appears to be mostly a border with a few static readings on the perimeter and other messages pop up when they come through.

Is this ascended fanon?

Or did it enter canon first, with the increase of real-world plus other speculative media incorporating layers and overlays in displays, and then get into fanfics? I feel like this has been a thing in fanfiction for a long time, like energy fields.

I couldn't find a TF Wiki article. I checked HUD, heads up display, heads-up, and POV.

The phrase "CGI 'POV' overlay" does appear within articles or meta several times.

So, the visual gimmick or trope has been used for some time.

And, given it's at present canon, one would think there should be a page for it.

Is it actually called something else?

I don't see it under UI or user interface either.

Doesn't seem to be overlay.

Is it an issue of it being a thing without official name?

@karanseraph Something tells me it's ascended fanon. After all, "Heads up displays" as a concept go back to at least WWII, (though less high-tech of course)

So I'm guessing it started by people liking the concept, using it in their fics and stories, and then as some of those fans made into the teams that made official media for the franchise, they took aspects like HUDs and added them in to canon.

The idea of having additional sensor readings "on-screen" is common even for robots and drones IRL, so it's not surprising that it'd make in to Transformers.

As for why there isn't a specific page on TF Wiki for it... that may just be that there hasn't been enough ACTUAL explanation for the HUD concept in TF to warrant a full page for it.

Cybertronian Sleep (My Way)

I know bots don't usually "Sleep" in the same context as humans, but mine have 2 types of sleep-mode that they use: "Partial Sleep" and "Chamber Sleep."

Partial Sleep is kind of like how some marine mammals sleep— only having half of their brains "asleep" at one time so they're still alert enough to go up to the surface to breathe and not drown. It can also be connected with "resting your eyes." They're not fully asleep to the point of not being aware of their surroundings, but instead in a half-way state where their systems can run repair diagnostics and programs to deal with minor strain and injuries, while still giving them the ability to hear and feel what's going on around them and can snap back out into full-alertness and motion immediately if needed.

Chamber Sleep is a deeper sleep-cycle, closer to human REM sleep but not as deep as true stasis. This level of sleep permits dreaming and sensory repairs that require those sensors to not be in active use. Usually used when the bot feels safe enough to withdraw from the "real world" for a time, such as in their habitation chambers, hence the name. Chamber sleep is also productive for younglings, as it enables their systems to update and shift as they continue development. (Sometimes you wake up from a nap and suddenly you have a new ability you didn't this morning!)

It's not uncommon to find younglings napping in piles, taking turns on who is in chamber sleep, and who is in partial sleep and alert enough to wake the others if something happens, and sleep in close proximity also helps with temperature regulation!

I Need Help Making a Decision

I know years have gone by and I should have decided this by now but it wasn't super relevant until now! XD

As some of you know, I made some of the engines from TTTE into cybertronian-esque bots, but they never transformed in the fics, so now I need your help to decide...

Do the Sodorians keep their faces on the fronts of their alt modes, or do they disappear like more traditional TF alt modes?
