sorry for the not so exciting update today, been feeling a little under the weather.
But, making sure to get some concept work up for you.
today's update shows the kind of process that goes down to try to make sense of these screenshots that only leave me with some bit of information.
As a lot of people know, ratchet got a quick glimpse of the lombax dimension, this is about all we got. They're mainly silhouettes of the buildings, so i had to figure out how these buildings were shaped and how they were.
it continued on paper, but this is the starting process i thought to share with you~
Sorry about the late update guys, i honestly forgot today was tuesday
anyways, today's concept art is for one of Quindal(the lombax planet)'s moons: Nadar.
Fun fact: lombax scientists have confirmed that this was once a small planet that got caught in Quindal's gravitational pull.
Nadar is mainly covered in water, which will freeze over when not in the sun's light. This moon is the main source of water for the lombaxes; Quindal has less than 1/3 of water than needed to be able to sustain the population, so water from nadar is harvested.
However, even with such harsh living conditions, Nadar does have some settlements located on there.
Wouldn't you love to grab a piece of that real-estate?
I just want to say the restitution comic book is not dead, just on hiatus for my busy life at the moment, page production should continue in about 2 weeks. Think of page 1 as a little teaser
ok, so in my cleaning adventures, i came across this old meme i sketched out
and a few things:
a) this is from january 11, 2011
b) all these characters, more or less, are in my comic
this give you a clue how long this idea has been in my head.
and i want to point out some things here.
specifically of all characters, and how they've deviated from their original design: (lots of images and shit under the cut)
1) Kaisyr has had his name for a while. And his design didn't change much.
When he was first made, he was actually going to be my fursona, fun fact.
of course i couldn't draw for shit, and dreamed of being muscular (i guess) so this eventually happened. BTH, his original name was Arex, but i think i forgot it after a while, and he eventually be came kaisyr.
like i said, his degin never really changed
from his old design to his new one, not much has changed
His goggles changed color, because too often would they blend in with him. The gloves lost the dumb glowing lights, and got the elastic straps. Then, of course, his arm stripes got down to a reasonable number, mainly to fit into the more accurate lombax proportions.
2) Eva (Evangeline)
Probably one of the most unchanged characters from their original concept/design.
of couse, now that i can draw females and lombaxes better, her proportions are less barbie-esque,
(this is still an old drawing, i have yet to make a new ref)
Her new design still is revealing (one of her many weapons), but she actually got belts to hold her arsenal, instead of just pulling weapons out of her ass like before. Girl got more muscular, because hot damn he actually works for it, not some mannequin model like before.
Her boob jacket (as i like to call it) get a zipper, so she can control her seduction levels, her pants actually became pants, because it's cold in space (even though the small top, but she's cover in fur so whatever). Boots. and the eye piece.
Her attitude hasn't really changed. But her role in the story has changed as well, but i can't tell you till the comic's done
3) Caroline (now Daisy)
She's the one who got the most name changes out of almost all the characters tbh.
other than that drawing up there, this is probably the oldest doodle of her i could find (which isn't that old, judging by the lack of anime face)
but she went from some name i dont even remeber, to caroline, to rose, to another name i forgot, to being daisy of today.
once again, she lacks a proper ref, but you get the idea
she actually got a good bartender-san design, but aside from that, she didn't change much. She has the long wavey hair like she did in her original design, but now she has the stubborn strand that will stay in the front of her face. She now, will also wear her hair tied up while being a bartender.
She also got the flower in her hair when she became daisy, but again, not many changes, other than personality.
4) Kayla (Makenzie)
Wow she was a big change. She was originally a side character i had put in for no reason.
once her name got changed to MacKenzie, that's when i started changing her character all together.
As you can see, she went from short hair to long, and she became blind. Eventually her name dropped the "c" to become MaKenzie
I became quite attached to her once she became blind, and now she has a complex personality and backstory (as well as her brother).
Fun fact about MaKenzie's design: she was the first of all the baxes to get a space outfit (aside from Kaleb & Eva, who's designs are their space outfits) that became her final space suit design for the comic.
5) Me (lemon)
Well, not really much to say. My lombaxona changed through the years as I did. Fun fact, after kaisyr became an independent character, i had no lombaxona for a while. Eventually a meme went around DeviantArt to draw yourself in the clothings you were wearing, so my lombaxona was first born then
oh course that wasn't my set clothing design.
Eventually, i got my shirt design, and my haircolor/fur color were swapped.
and more or less, here is the lemon you see today.
6) General Jalen (Kaleb)
Raughs @ general. Without giving away his entire backstory, basically he was a military bax, so for a while he had no name, i just kept calling him "general." Eventually I BS'd out the name Jalen, and quickly forgot it
Most the key elements of his original design stayed the same. He armor has gone through 30 changes, but his design (not colors) has stayed relatively the same.
Eventually his name became Kaleb, and he's the old fart of today. His personality and relationships with the other characters also changed quite a bit, but i can't tell you that now.
7) Diana (Christine)
I really don't remember much of her original design, nor do i have many pictures of her before she became christine.
she has the bandana and hair braid like normal (which is hard to tell cause EARS >:U) but yeah.
I can't really say much as to give away the story, but even she got changed since i tried this awful meme.
8) Jeff (Dameon)
Essentially, he hasn't changed, he wears hats and glasses, but his outfit did changed from plain old t-shirt to a jacket.
Eventually for the final design, his name got switched to Dameon.
9) Scott (Scot)
I really don't remember when is name dropped the second t, but it is correct with one t, not two.
well what can i say, he hasn't changed much. His hair got more directional, and a bit longer, he lost his goggles, he actually wears and undershirt now, he got a 5 o'clock shadow, and face stripes (and he learn to smoke the correct side of the cigarette). Personality-wise he has changed much, but his design changed more than i though.
of couse this drawing is still old, but has most of his essential designs.
10) Jerald (Stephen)
ok, his role changed completely from his original concept, but i can't give any of that away.
well his goofy ponytail got a little longer, and he likes to put it off to one side. Even from this doodle, he lost his glasses.
11) Zeke (he wasn't on the meme, guess he's a newer character than i though)
wow, his design really hasn't changed.
I don't remember if when i first made his to be a random character at first or not, but he now is a character i like more. Although his design hasn't changed at all.
so there.
This meme shows how long i've been working on these characters, and how much they've changed
this was just design, and a bit a personality.
I can tell you about the references, easter eggs, cameos, and changes in the plot after the comic is finish.
Hope this helps appreciate how much work has gone into this comic too!
So Restitution will be unable update this weekend again
;n; sorry guys. I could give you my (legitimate) excuse of family weekend and school and such, but it doesnt make up for the lack of restitution lately
