I have seen fics where Shen Yuan transmigrates as Shen Qingqiu, Yue Qingyuan, maybe Liu Qingge too? I don't remember. Luo Binghe, Qiu Jianluo, Wu Yanzi, Ning Yingying, a Warm Red Pavilion prostitute, etc.
But I have never seen Shen Yuan transmigrates as Qiu Haitang? (Or is there?)
Shen Jiu's life in the Qiu Manor and the relationship with the 'girl' he often seeks out to hide from Qiu Jianluo are going to be so weird, I think.
I thought, what if Yue Qi and Shen Jiu didn't enter Cang Qiong.
Maybe for some reason, Cang Qiong doesn't accept Yue Qi, because Yue Qi is a runaway slave, maybe from other technical things like they're not accepting any disciple right now, or that the accepting age is stricter, and 15 year old Yue Qi is too old.
So, Yue Qi wanders to join the Zhao Hua Monastery instead, because the monks are compassionate, so they accept Yue Qi. And Yue Qi is naturally a nice guy anyway. They would get along.
And Shen Jiu somehow joins the Tianyi Overlook because we have too little information about it other than they're kind of chill, disorganised, and aren't good at protection arrays? So we can explore this sect and world build for some nice change.
Maybe because of their bad barrier, Wu Yanzi and Shen Jiu infiltrate inside and somehow are spotted. So, Shen Jiu plays being Wu Yanzi's victim and on the Tianyi's side, and backstabs Wu Yanzi to death. The Tianyi Overlook appreciates Shen Jiu's help, thinking Shen Jiu's flawed cultivation is the damaged from Wu Yanzi, accepts Shen Jiu as a disciple.
Then some time later, Yue Qi; who now has a monk name not being Yue Qingyuan. Maybe not started with Wu because Yue Qi is in a different generation from Wu Wang and Wu Chen?; and Shen Jiu meet again.
Then I realised. Oh no, Qi ge is bald! Abort. Abort!
---
I had ChatGPT generate reasons for me:
“I went to Cang Qiong first. I thought—if I got strong enough, I could come back for you. But they didn’t even let me through the gates. Said they weren't accepting disciples right then. Said I was too old. I begged but they didn't bulge. So, I went from sect to sect. No one wanted me.
It took me six months just to find someone who did, the Zhao Hua Monastery. But when I begged to go back for you, they told me to wait.
‘You can’t save someone while your own mind is burning,’ they said. They wanted me to be calm and patient. I couldn’t.
I didn’t sleep. I kept trying to cultivate faster, harder. I thought—if I could just break through, maybe they’d let me go. But my qi scattered. I collapsed during meditation, took months to recuperate.
I tried stealing a movement talisman from the library—to go to the Qiu estate myself—but it backfired and burned half my meridians. I couldn’t walk for another month.
By the time they said I was ready to leave... You were already gone, Xiao Jiu. All that was left was blood and ashes.”

Shen Jiu might bitterly forgive Yue Qi? And scolds Yue Qi a lot how ugly Yue Qi is without hair? 🤔 And tells Yue Qi to defect from that useless sect that had Yue Qi sit uselessly in the sect instead of coming to rescue Shen Jiu earlier. Because if not, they would be in different sects and that's unacceptable. And to have Shen Jiu shave his head to be a monk instead? Extra unacceptable!
Yue Qi would probably go back to Zhao Hua to formally do the severance ritual or something? That releases him from being a monk. And since Tianyi is supposed to be chill, they're probably more open to excepting an ex monk from another sect??
And all this time, Shen Jiu goads how Yue Qi is so ugly with short hair (like in the modern world) to vent his bitterness from having to stay in the Qiu estate for so long and have his cultivation crippled by Wu Yanzi, or so? And it kind of become some jokes or puns? And Yue Qi apologises to Shen Jiu every time for being bald. XD
This time, Shen Jiu vouches for Yue Qi to join the sect, in contrast to the canon.
I think I have seen fics where Shen Yuan is mistaken by other people as being scared of females, but not in many.
People assume so because Shen Yuan, being genre savvy as he is, always thinks women are for Luo Binghe. They will become Luo Binghe's wives. If Shen Yuan accidentally makes them dislike Shen Yuan, maybe future Luo Binghe will come to torture and kill Shen Yuan in revenge. If Shen Yuan is somehow good to them and they like Shen Yuan and don't marry Luo Binghe, the plot will be ruined. And maybe this world will collapse??
So people think Shen Yuan always avoids females, make their interactions very brief, sometimes even choose enemies over female allies, because of the fear of women, in contrast to Shen Jiu's fear of men.
What if Shen Jiu, after being tortured as a human stick, time travels.
(Or it can be Yue Qingyuan who time travels.)
So Shen Jiu escapes the Qiu Manor, avoids meeting Wu Yanzi, goes directly to Cang Qiong, and becomes the Qing Jing Peak Lord.
Then when Luo Binghe comes to the Cang Qiong disciple selection, Shen Jiu (or Yue Qingyuan) doesn't accept Luo Binghe.
No one else does either.
So Luo Binghe can only walk down the mountain and wander around the town to find some jobs for food and money.
And Wu Yanzi, who wasn't killed by Shen Jiu back then... Picks Luo Binghe up...
👀
🤔
So, here we get a demonic cultivator+half Heavenly Demon duo, who may or may not come with a grudge against Cang Qiong.
👀
Since Luo Binghe is denied from Cang Qiong, he's desperate to cultivate anywhere, by any means.
Luo Binghe could have tried for Huan Hua, Tian Yi, Zhao Tian, or other small sects, but Wu Yanzi catches Luo Binghe first.
Wu Yanzi would surely trick naive 10 year old Luo Binghe into worshipping him as shifu, and teach him how to steal and muder. With Wu Yanzi's misguides and lies, Luo Binghe would confusedly and reluctantly acquiesce to committing crimes, like in PIDW, he acquiesces to doing unfair chores and bullied by Qing Jing disciples, thinking it's just to prove himself.
Will Luo Binghe still meet Meng Mo?
Maybe Wu Yanzi takes Luo Binghe to follow Sha Hualing's group of demons invading Cang Qiong, to steal some treasures and artefats. They may or may not also go to other peaks like Qing Jing to steal scrolls and pricely four arts, Wan Jian to steal swords, or Qian Cao to steal medicine and rare herbs...
Meng Mo might notice Luo Binghe during that time.
Can Luo Binghe learn righteous cultivation from the scrolls and manuals they stole from Cang Qiong? It may or may not be Qing Jing's, but Luo Binghe's cultivation would improve like in SVSSS after Shen Yuan gives Luo Binghe the real manual at 14 years old.
Maybe Wu Yanzi, along with Luo Binghe, will come to loot the disciples in the Immortal Alliance Conference again like in PIDW when Shen Jiu was 16 years old.
Maybe in this life, when Shen Jiu was 16 years old, he was busy with Qi ge. Maybe with solving the complications from Xuan Su, so he didn't join that Immortal Alliance Conference back then and no one killed Wu Yanzi.
Or maybe Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan still join, but they somehow just didn't meet nor kill Wu Yanzi.
Or maybe Wu Yanzi survived and has been looking for revenge on Cang Qiong from then on...
The Endless Abyss may still open next to Luo Binghe, and Wu Yanzi...
If a fic bashes Yue Qingyuan, I stop reading it. Sometimes I skim and only carefully read the scenes where Yue Qingyuan appears.
But he's the reason Shen Jiu suffers and many people then suffer from Shen Jiu.
Yue Qingyuan doesn't tell Shen Jiu why he didn't come back to save Shen Jiu for some undisclosed reasons. Fanfic writers can only speculate. And Yue Qingyuan drags the explanation out for 2 dacades then dies of poisoned arrows before being able to tell a single soul...
He's kind of spineless? Not quite standing up for Shen Jiu (as much as to turn Shen Jiu's life for the better) but not quite leaving Shen Jiu alone. Not taking initiative to clear misunderstandings and many lacks of communication between Shen Jiu and everyone else including the peak lords, Luo Binghe, and other sects.
Do I have a big brother kink? Do I like his warmth and softness? His persistence (in giving Shen Jiu gifts and chances to chat?) Does the unreasonably painful pining make me want to connect them? Itching to correct his hopeful intentions but no actions?
I love Shen Jiu because he loves Qi ge? I tolerate Shen Yuan beause he says Yue Qingyuan is his second most favourite PIDW character?
During an intersect event Shen Qingqiu is poisoned. How do we know he was poisoned? Because the dumbass that did it immediately jumped from the public to gloat about it.
The CQM delegation promptly then grabbed their unluckiest peak lord and dipped back home to try and not have him die. (They also grabbed the dude that poisoned him, to get info on the poison and all that)
It's supossed to steal half of a person's lifespan; and as Shen Qingqiu has lived for a while the dude thinks it will just kill the Lord. It doesn't do that thought... It splits the Lord into two young adults, each half of Shen Qingqiu's age. They are both fucking confused and looking at the other wide eyed.
SQQ#1 blinks and ask everyone to leave. SQQ#2 just agrees when asked by the other peak lords. It's an exercise in patience to get Yue Big-Brother-Extraordinaire Qingyuan to leave his favorite shidi who suddenly multiplied. He is rabid. Overdosing on shidi.
Shen Yuan is both terrified and ecstatic to be free from SQQ's fate, but also guilty? of leaving the other to deal with it. He's 90% sure the other SQQ is the original goods.
Shen Jiu is just looking at the body-snatcher, trying to decide whether to kill the other or kidnap him to keep such a wonderful teacher for his peak. Finally, someone to deal with the brats.
SY: Well, sorry for stealing your body, my bad. I will now leave you to-
And SY gets grabbed by the scruff and forced to spill all his secrets. The system doesn't register SJ as a separate entity so they are free to converse and make plans. By the time the other peaklords (mainly YQY, QQQ, and WQW) come back for gossip the Shens are gossiping about them and sharing some little cakes with their tea. BFFs.
Oh, they are 100% roasting eachother. Don't mind them too much, they are trying to decide who gets to be the older one and thus the one in charge.
Hello! I was catching up on your Shizun Luo Binghe/demon disciple Shen Yuan and I had a question about the second post.
How did Jin Lan City plague occur without svsss Shen Yuan saving Zhuzhi-lang while retrieving the mushroom seeds?
Shen Yuan was in the abyss during that time and wouldn’t have been there. If he’d gone before while he was still a disciple, Jin Lan City would have happened sooner. So did Shen Yuan just speed run the abyss with his meta knowledge faster then svsss Luo Binghe?
Or is there some other factor that caused Luo Binghe to somehow save Zhuzhi-lang while Shen Yuan was in the abyss?
Because Jin Lan City plague wouldn’t have happened if Zhuzhi-lang hadn’t been trying to pay Shen Qingqiu “back” (in his warped sense of repayment) for saving his life so he could hide him from humanity and require him away in the demon realm. That’s why it caught Shen Qingqiu off guard in canon.
So if Luo Binghe saved Zhuzhi-lang somehow (maybe he was out with Liu Qingge who was trying to distract his friend from his grief and himself from his own and ran into Zhuzhi-lang and saved him because all he could see when he saw a demon was the expression on Shen Yuan’s face as he pleaded before he died), it would make sense that Zhuzhi-lang to fixate on Luo Binghe (a human in this) and still need to go through the attempt to separate someone from the human realm.
Obviously, this would play out differently than Shen Qingqiu’s version. Luo Binghe wouldn’t be going on trial at Huan Hua probably (unless HHPM still had a thing for LBH’s mom and was trying to creepily come up with a reason to lock him up in HHP for creepy reasons??) and I can’t think of a reason Luo Binghe would have been after the mushroom to have gotten it for Zhuzhi-lang— AND ACTUALLY I HAVE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TANGENTIALLY RELATED QUESTION!!
Okay so if Luo Binghe is 100% human does that mean he’s not the son of Tianlang-Jun in this. Or is Tianlang-Jun human in this?? And where would that place Zhuzhi-lang??
Either Zhuzhi lang is a human and then we have a hole to fill of why sowers went to Jin Lan City. Or he’s a demon and we have a different hole to fill of who he’s obsessively devoted to and trying to save. Would there even be anyone to save?? If Tianlang-Jun is human, who was sealed under Bailu Mountain?? Was anyone sealed??
…okay I’ll stop spiraling.. I could spiral on this for hours but this is already long and I need to go to sleep 😅
going to be so honest with you because this blog is a place where we don't lie in hindsight but like. i saw the prompt in my inbox at around three in the morning and thought wow! that's so fun and angsty! and wrote the blurb out at four in the morning in my notes app while actively drifting in and out of sleep before turning in. so like. i didn't even consider 2% of this when writing that out. lmfao.
but! on that note i loveeee the ideas here so much... especially with zhuzhi lang! the idea of luo binghe learning to empathize with demons in a way he never has before because seeing shen yuan die thinking he was hated traumatizing him so much > > > actually peak. i think in this scenario, because i imagine tianlang-jun is a human and no one is really. sealed under the mountain. since i imagine that shen yuan would be the first humanoid demonic big bad of the cultivation world rather than tianlang-jun. and if luo binghe did help zhuzhi lang it would be trying to help him get his human body back or something along those lines, while luo binghe was looking for the sun and moon dew mushrooms [or whatever they're called] in some half-hearted last ditch event to somehow prove his disciple was alive.
honestly a lot of these could have much more interesting explanations / ways to tackle them i just am not built to figure it out lmfaoooo. i think my issue is that i like character-focused stories so much more than heavily indulging specific plot points. so in my head i'm like it would be so fun to break down this toxic relationship between shen yuan and luo binghe if it was the other way around while all these details about the sowers and zhuzhi lang etc etc etc get lost.
though i ALSO!!! really like the idea that the huan hua palace master was trying to lure luo binghe to the water prison because of his hang ups with his mother. because i feel that makes a tad more sense than the random-ish 'shen qingqiu is a bad person so we should lock him up' i vaguely remember from canon (says girl who hasn't read these books in years. do not quiz me please)
many fun things to think about. thank you for reminding me all these things happened LOL
- Both Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan fought for the empire in the last war with the demons during which YQY almost died. Afterwards they were in charge of training new recruits in cultivation. They remained there until Shen Yuan was almost died and afterwards SJ took his family and made them return to a village as far away as they could get.
- YQY almost died because of Xuan Su fuckery. SJ is now terrified of this happening to SY so he refuses to teach him anything to do with spirit swords or allow him to have one.
- SY, with memories here only from waking up post-almost-dying and ones about a novel he read in a previous life (?), actually does super want a spiritual sword if only so that he can maybe go see the creatures he’s been reading about and can’t find near their village. Mostly he wants his baba to maybe lighten up a little bit and trust him to not immediately die (he should not be trusted to not immediately die)
- When the empire calls both YQY and SJ to return to fight, SJ absolutely runs them out of their town.
- SY is hella glad actually because from what he remembers of the book, SJ is supposed to go back to war and like Die. And the YQY goes after him and also dies and listen he’s grown pretty fond of his second set of parents and would like to avoid that actually! Great job, baba!
Shen Yuan is, of course, a sweetheart of a cat that is totally, entirely, wasted on that acerbic Peak Lord who named him.
That is, of course, until a demon attack on the sect includes the use of True Heart Vial Rose and shows exactly what Shen Yuan is thinking.
Which happens to be rampant and increasingly creative expletives as he hisses, batting fiercely at the downed demon.
"Fuck your mother!" the cat yeowls, scratching at the demon's eyes. "You dogshit, peh! Curse your family! Your ancestors and descendants should feel shame having you in their bloodline!"
He quickly changes gears as he runs over to Shen Qingqiu, rubbing against his legs. "Jiu-ge, Jiu-ge~ That thing is filthy! Hurry and salt this wretched corpse lest it spreads some sort of miasma!"
Shen Qingqiu is, of course, more than a little pleased to do exactly that.
Shen Yuan, it seems, is utterly unaware of the fact his thoughts are understood. It doesn't help that he doesn't actually understand much of human speech (yet), so even if he's understood, he can't do the same for them. And that means he's very honest about whatever he thinks at all times.
"Is this supposed to be a gift? It's crude. It's bloody. It's exactly the kind of thing that dogfight Bai Zhan Peak would consider a prized possession. Its liver should be impeccable for qi restoration, and its bones, once in a fine powder, can help heal meridians. It's a good gift. Jiu-ge should take it." It's that commentary over the large corpse sitting outside the bamboo house that A) helps Shen Qingqiu realize it's not a threat and B) realize who it came from.
Also, apparently the cat has some sort of instinctual knowledge of beasts like itself. How curious.
"Going out of their way to misunderstand. Hmmh. Don't mind them, Jiu-ge. They aren't worth the effort. A waste of space and breath, they are."
The Peak Lord can't help a little laugh as he agrees, watching the cultivators accosting him turned red in the face at being dismissed by a cat.
"Aiyah, what am I going to do with you..." He purrs softly as he helps Shen Qingqiu calm from another, increasingly infrequent qi deviation. "You can't keep getting hurt like this. If you can't stop, I guess this Yuan will have to watch over you for as long as I live."
If Shen Qingqiu starts looking into how to help a cat become a spiritual beast after that, well, that's no one else's business.
"Jiu-ge cultivated demonically first. Of course cultivating the spiritual way only will cause an imbalance! Qi is qi, none is good or evil on principle, just like people and demons. Jiu-ge should keep using demonic cultivation to balance his energies! Fuck Wu Yanzi, there's tons of demonic cultivators better than even those from 'righteous' sects!"
If Shen Qingqiu begins improving in leaps and bounds, well, that's also his own business.
By the time Luo Binghe arrives, Shen Qingqiu is much more settled in himself and doesn't bother spiting Liu Qingge by taking a promising, fluffy-looking child on the day to pick new disciples. Though, Shen Yuan starts trailing over to Bai Zhan to go stare at the child, and in turn, Shen Qingqiu and Liu Qingge end up spending more time around each other...gross.
"Aaa Jiu-ge, don't be so shy. You clearly brought that Thousand Silver Teardrop Tea to help Qingge-ge through his bottleneck. Why act like this, ah? You're so hopeless. I suppose this cat will have to keep you company forever. Haaah."
Well, there are times he mildly wished A'Yuan would shut up. But his thoughts do end up getting the other peak lords to relax more around him.
Liu Qingge, having heard the cat's thoughts time after time, starts talking to Shen Qingqiu and treating him better. Repulsive. Do it more.
Shen Yuan is something like a Bengal cat, in theory. He has the athletic build and round face. But his tail has longer fur than the rest of his body, and he doesn't have the typical markings of a leopard cat, being completely white. His eyes are also a quite bright and vibrant green.
So, in essence, he can't be a natural, domestic cat. There has to be some sort of mixed blood in him. Who knew what he was? He was just "cat".
This strange bastard cat was the only creature that somehow shoved its way into Shen Qingqiu's life.
Shen Jiu arrived on Cang Qiong with Shen Yuan, back then simply called Pest.
He'd met Pest a few times. First time, as a kitten, a few days after he burned down the Qiu household. He was already being trained by Wu Yanzi by then, so he had no time for dumb creatures, and he ignored it.
He saw Pest on and off a few times during those years.
The cat was usually hunting or staring at plants with an unnatural amount of focus. But time after time, the cat would also stare at him.
Then, one day, he made the mistake of leaving a small morsel for Pest during winter, when the snow was particularly thick and the cat looked thinner and scraggly.
He woke later to see the cat crouched, staring at him. They watched each other cautiously, and then, Pest crawled his way to Shen Jiu's stomach and curled himself up nice and tight.
Then, the little bastard had the audacity to start purring!! As if there was a single thing to purr about! Stupid creature.
He gave into his desire to pet it a few minutes in, then fell into the first bit of calm sleep he had in a long while.
After that, Pest trailed after them, carefully hiding away from Wu Yanzi, as though he knew the demonic cultivator would likely do something nasty to him. Even on days Shen Jiu felt particularly irritated and cruel, calling the cat rude names and cursing him and his mother, Pest stayed like else was watching something interesting. Then, after he calmed, the dumb beast would come up to him, all purring and slow blinks.
Shen Jiu wasn't sure the exact day Pest became "his cat," but surely it happened some time as he was dragged along by Wu Yanzi. Perhaps it happened with his first qi deviation, awakening to find Pest balled against him, mewling pitifully, his fur in disarray, blood from Shen Jiu's seven orfices clumping spots together.
He later saw Pest limping a little, as much as the cat hid it. He must've hurt him during the deviation, but Pest didn't leave his side...
Yes. Yeah. That was when Pest became his cat for sure.
And Pest became a constant trail behind him, always following. He even followed him all the way up to Cang Qiong, slipping into the woodshed Shen Jiu chose to sleep in your stay away from the wretched boys of the peak.
Pets weren't allowed on the peak, so he told Pest to stay hidden, time and time again. Of course, Pest was eventually found, having been caught sniffing around the kitchens.
Some brat ran up to the Qing Jing Peak Lord with a scratched hand after trying to pet Pest. Shen Jiu severely doubted that petting was all they tried to do—Pest, the idiot, was not quick to swipe or bite. He'd seen a small child grab at and pull his ears, and all it brought out was a plaintative whine of a meow before he scrambled away.
When the brat suggested capturing the cat and using it to test his sword, Shen Jiu pounced on him then and there and beat the shit out of him. For that moment, he gave up any semblance of elegance he tried to emulate from his Shizun and brought back every street rat instinct he had.
He would not loose his Pest, especially not to some snot-nosed, affluent little troglodyte.
This got Shen Jiu whipped, but he didn't care. And when his Shizun set up a battle between him and the boy to determine Pest's fate, he managed to win despite having a weaker cultivation base, using Plucking Leaves, Flying Flowers in a surprisingly offensive way.
The day after, their Shizun names him the head disciple, and both his and Pest's positions were solidified.
The day Shen Jiu was named Shen Qingqiu, Shen Qingqiu changed Pest to Shen Yuan and tied a silky green hair ribbon around his neck.
--
Shen Yuan, before his thoughts became advertised to anyone who listened, was already a very expressive cat. Much more expressive than one would expect of such cool-hearted creatures.
For one, when chewing on something hard, he would squint his eyes, furl his nose, and crunch as hard as he could. He looked like a little gremlin each time, all that prettiness fading away for a moment to reveal the true menace underneath. Sometimes, Shen Jiu would give him crunchy fish snacks just to watch him squint up. That habit didn't change even after he became Shen Qingqiu.
Secondly, as soon as they were around something soft, Shen Yuan would sit on it like a person.
As Pest, when Shen Jiu visited the Warm Red Pavilion, the girls there had squealed in delight. When he looked over, sure enough, Pest had absolutely terrible, scrunched posture, with his tail between his legs, his legs stretched out and open. After a yawn, he began licking one of his front paws and grooming, tail flicking leisurely.
Shen Jiu had been absolutely flabbergasted seeing such a thing. He'd never once seen a cat sit like that.
And he found he didn't see such a thing again unless they were in the Warm Red Pavilion, or, once they moved in, the bamboo house. Otherwise, Shen Yuan's sitting posture was prim and proper lest he was sunbathing.
Among his many little oddities, Shen Yuan has no interest in mating.
Once, during their visit to the Pavilion, one of the girls brought a female cat in case Pest wanted to mate. He was a male cat, after all, and it would be a shame to let Pest's good genes go to waste. Although unsure, Shen Jiu agreed, so they left them in a room together.
A bit later, hearing a cat yowl, they thought perhaps they had finished...but the cries continued. Eventually, they returned when the cries still didn't stop. They found the female cat presenting to Shen Yuan, backing up toward him with her tail to the side... But he himself was pressed tightly into a corner, tail wrapped around himself, eyes blown wide and yowling like he was in agony.
The instant he saw Shen Jiu, he jumped upward, kicked off the wall, and scrambled over to him, climbing up his clothes.
Some of the girls actually cried laughing, and Shen Jiu's cheeks hurt with how much he did his best to not join in.
They never tried to see if he would mate with any cat ever again. Whevever he remembers this, Shen Qingqiu desperately wishes he knew what Shen Yuan was saying.
Lastly, after several years of being together, Shen Qingqiu found that Shen Yuan would go comfortably limp in his hands.
He would completely ragdoll, as though surrendering utterly to gravity and his trust in Shen Qingqiu. Honestly, he'd never seen a cat do that, and for a while, he thought maybe he was sick or something. But after a while, he realized he just liked being held like a supported sack.
"Lazy beast. Utterly improper."
If anyone hurts Shen Yuan, he will kill them and everyone in their bloodline.
Sheepzun will not die until I die, and even then, Sheepzun shall remain long after I've shuffled off this mortal coil.
Anyway, here's an update on that. ;3

Cai Niu, Luo Binghe, and the ram stood still in the room. Both children had bruises on their faces and hands and surely had more bruises blooming under their clothes. The ram stood stock still between them, not even chewing or trying to run away from what seemed to be a very uncomfortable situation.
This was despite the fact Luo Binghe had insisted on removing the halter keeping the ram in place. Apparently, it wasn't needed, and this situation seemed to show that.
Yue Qingyuan stood before them with a patient smile on his face as Qiong Ding disciples finished putting up the new door. Only after they closed the door did the sect leader speak.
"Disciple Cai, disciple Luo, I'm sure you both are aware that your actions have been quite unacceptable."
"Yes, Zhangmen-shibo," they replied, utterly unrepentant.
He sighed, knowing this, but decided to hear the children out regardless. Behind him, still seated at the table, the other peak lords looked on, some in trepidation, others in utter amusement. What interesting disciples!
"Well then, please tell this lord. What was so important that you would disrupt a peak lord meeting?"
"Answering Zhangmen-shibo, this disciple demands justice for my shizun!" Luo Binghe replied, his little chest puffed out.
Beside him, the ram huffed, seeming to look at the boy, eyes lidded in humored resignation. The peak lords looking at the subject of the hour found such a visible expression on the face of a sheep incredibly strange.
"Answering Zhangmen-shibo, this disciple believes the meeting regarding Sheng Huan lacks very important information. For instance, this disciple and Luo Binghe have reason to believe, as well as firm evidence, that Sheng Huan is sentient, sapient, and able to speak. This disciple believes that, lacking this information and evidence of it, the peak lords may make a mistake in their judgement."
"Sheng Huan?"
"Yes. That is the name I gave him when he was a lamb." Cai Niu sniffled before rubbing some blood dripping from her nose away. "He was under the care of my group."
"Hmm. Then, which of you have spent the most time with Sheng Huan?"
Cai Niu looked over to Luo Binghe, who answered clearly.
"This disciple has, Zhangmen-shibo."
"And you call him...Shizun? You're a disciple of Qing Jing Peak, are you not?"
"Yes, Zhangmen-shibo. This disciple lives on Qing Jing Peak. However, this disciple..."
For a moment, he glanced over to Shen Qingqiu. He pursed his lips briefly before continuing.
"...This disciple is slow to learn and has caused much trouble for Shen-shifu. Because he is lacking, he has failed to follow Shen-shifu's teaching effectively. However, Shizun has graciously taught this one, even before he could speak. Before we could communicate as effectively as we do now. So, this disciple cannot stand by as Shizun's life is decided for him without speaking up."
"I see... Then, Luo-shizhi, what has your shizun taught you?"
"A great many things!" His eyes brighten despite the bruises on his face. "He taught me how to circulate my qi and how to meditate effectively. He's also taught me how to sharpen my axe for cutting wood, how to find qi-dense plants to eat, and how to hunt for my own food. My senses have become much stronger, and this disciple was able to sense the attack happening before the demons could destroy our rainbow bridge!"
As he prattled on, Shen Qingqiu's expression soured.
"Oh my, to think he would need to learn how to find food on Qing Jing, a peak for scholars. Shang-shixiong, perhaps you should increase the food budget for our poor tactician," Qi Qingqi murmured, hiding her grin with a manicured hand.
"Perhaps we should reevaluate what Qing Jing is for. Instead of the scholarly peak, perhaps the survivalists' peak?" Zui Xian Peak's Zhao Qinglian hummed, swishing his drink in a small gourd.
A little bit of giggling and cut-off snickering continued from a few of them before Shen Qingqiu snapped his fan shut, giving them all a derisive glare.
"This meeting has already been drawn out longer than usual. Zhangmen-shixiong, how much longer must we be kept away from our duties? We've already finished the vote."
Both Cai Niu and Luo Binghe's expressions crumpled, though Luo Binghe's hardened in frustrated indignation, his hands balling at his sides. He quickly bowed lowly to Yue Qingyuan, Cai Niu following suit.
"Zhangmen-shibo, begging your forgiveness for interrupting! But please, this disciple asks that the peak lords do not make a rash decision without acknowledging Shizun's abilities!"
With the children looking down, they couldn't see the slight furrow of his brow, the man torn between not slighting Xiao Jiu and their request. The vote really did rest on him...but since there was new information, a reevaluation was definitely warranted. As much as he didn't want to cause any humiliation to his...to Xiao Jiu, he couldn't reasonably vote in his favor without giving them a chance. He needed to be a fair sect leader, first and foremost.
His gaze trailed over to the ram, and he almost flinched, seeing the ram staring back. Upon their gazes meeting, the ram lowered its own in a move one could almost call demure. It really was quite unnatural, the intelligence he could recognize in its eyes.
...There was also Liu Qingge's assertion.
"Well... There was a comment made earlier that this lord would be willing to address. Perhaps the two of you and Sheng Huan can shed some light on this."
The children's expressions immediately brightened with hope, and Yue Qingyuan couldn't help but smile a little more genuinely at them.
"This lord has heard that Sheng Huan has the ability to speak, not only from the two of you, but someone else as well. If possible, this lord would like for Sheng Huan to speak on its own."
"Yes! Sheng Huan can speak! This disciple heard him speak to her just yesterday!"
"Shizun's way of speaking is different than that of humans. It may be difficult, but it's possible! Please, Shizun, please try!"
The ram looked over to Luo Binghe, ears flicking.
Luo Binghe looked up at Yue Qingyuan then, excited. But his expression fell when he didn't see the sort of reaction he was expecting.
"Uhm... Maybe try again?" Cai Niu murmured, "I didn't hear him either."
"Right, okay. Shizun... Maybe if you...erh..."
A few more times, Luo Binghe looked over at the others with increasing desperation. Once or twice, Cai Niu also seemed surprised and looked at the others, only to see blank and increasingly impatient expressions. At the same times Cai Niu would seem to "hear" Sheng Huan, Luo Binghe seemed distressed to not.
"This is foolish," a peak lord sighed.
"Perhaps both disciples should be mentally evaluated. This could be the effect of a severe qi deviation."
"A qi deviation on Qing Jing would make some sense, but even Xin Ya?"
"Oi, don't drag my peak into this."
"Sun-shixiong, this lord loathes to say this, truly. But this is literally happening because of your peak."
Luo Binghe sniffled, tears budding in his eyes. The ram, previously standing still, moved closer to him, nosing at his tears with a calm gaze.
Even without words, seeing the look on the ram's face made Yue Qingyuan question if they really weren't communicating with each other somehow. Sniffling, the boy spoke to the ram again.
"What if you, I don't know... I just... What if you thought really loudly? As though speaking to everyone, not just me? Maybe your voice only transfers to those you intend to speak with?"
"That... That would explain it. Why only one person can hear him at a time," Cai Niu murmured. "Please try it, Sheng Huan."
There was a long pause then, the ram seeming to look up toward the ceiling. Its ears flicked, and its expression eventually pinched.
There was nothing.
Finally, the ram let out a huff.
'...This ram had his doubts this would be effective, Binghe.'
Shang Qinghua dropped his brush.
Hearing the brush hit the table, the ram's eyes opened to see Luo Binghe's tearful yet ecstatic face. He blinked, as though a little shaken by his reaction, only to turn to Cai Niu to see a similarly dumbfounded but delighted expression.
Yue Qingyuan was also, plainly, just as discombobulated as the ram seemed to be.
The peak lords at the table stared at the ram, trying to process what they heard. It was a voice, yes, but it both did and didn't register to their ears. It also wasn't a voice that came from either of the young disciples or any of the other lords.
Melodious, calm, and grounded.
Liu Qingge stood up then, pointing at the ram.
"You."
Said ram blinked back.
'Eh?'
It...he looked up, eyelashes fluttering. Despite sheep generally not being known for their facial expressions, the surprise was quite clear on his face.
"You were in the Lingxi Caves."
'Ah... Oh. Oh, uhm. Well. Yes.'
Liu Qingge nodded immediately, crossing his arms.
"And, you have the same voice this lord heard back then. I am sure of it. This lord owes the ram his life. As does Shen Qingqiu."
Upon hearing his name, the peak lord scowled, all burgeoning dumbfoundedness slipping off his face.
"And why do you think this accurate, Liu-shidi? Did that qi deviation you suffered scramble what was left of your brain? So what, the ram speaks. What else does that prove?"
Before the two could start fighting, Yue Qingyuan cut in.
"That's a reasonable question, shidi. Let's unravel this slowly to ensure we do not have any misunderstandings. Then... Sheng Huan, was it?"
The ram blinked, his neck hugged tightly by the two children beside him, one still crying as the other beamed gleefully.
'So this does work... Ah...yes. That is a name one could use to refer to me.'
"Is it not your name?"
'This ram has also named himself. Thanking Miss Cai for her graciousness, and begging her pardon.'
"I don't mind! I don't at all. Just...wow..."
It was rather difficult to maintain his professionalism, considering his conversation partner was a ram and all. One that didn't seem to deny that he was, indeed, raised by a disciple. But, of course, confirming that information would come in due time.
"Then, this lord would like to know your name."
'Of course. Ah, aiyah, Binghe, let this ram save some face... Ahem...' With his neck freed from Luo Binghe's hug, he lowered it in what could be interpreted as a bow. 'This ram's name is Shen Yuan.'
Shen Qingqiu's fan cracked, splintering.
"Shen?" Qi Qingqi whispered as loudly as possible.
No other murmurs went further, but Yue Qingyuan's smile tightened, feeling his shidi's serpent-like gaze stab into him.
'KILL IT,' the silent voice demanded. 'STRIKE IT DOWN RIGHT NOW.'
"...Shen Yuan. Then, this lord has a few short questions for you."
'This ram shall answer as best as he can.'
"Mm. Then, Shen Yuan, were you raised on Xin Ya Peak?"
'Yes, by Miss Cai and a few other younglings.'
"From the time you were..."
'This ram was lambed on Xin Ya.'
"And your...family?"
'Ah, my mother and sibling were dead when this ram was born.'
Luo Binghe gasped, pain lancing through his expression. Immediately attentive of him, the ram continued.
'Worry not. This ram understands it was a complication of birthing twins. Had it not been for the dutiful actions of Xin Ya's disciples, it is possible this ram would have also remained stillborn.'
"...And you left Xin Ya. Why?"
'Because this ram understood he was to be eaten.'
Back at the table, Sun Qingjian winced. It was one thing as a farmer to know that some of the farmed animals you raised, even if you did it with something akin to love, would end up on a dinner table. It was another to hear that acknowledgement from one of the animals previously farmed.
Hearing it spoken in words that could be understood was, frankly, uncomfortable.
"...I see. Why did Shen Yuan choose Qing Jing Peak?"
'Ah, this ram didn't do so intentionally. He stumbled upon it while trying to find a way to escape. Very tasty grass they have there. However, he met Binghe, and has since stayed.'
"Mm. Then, regarding the Lingxi Caves..."
'This ram felt inclined to visit them. So, he went there and dwelled inside for a while. The moss was quite tasty.'
Zhao Qinglian snorted under his breath.
'While he was there, he heard some loud noises, so he followed them. There, he found two pretty people. One was having what looked to be a very severe qi deviation, and the other was being drawn into one despite trying to help.' Shen Yuan glanced at the table. 'Ah, the pretty people are here. That one with the mole was one of them.'
"Pret--" Liu Qingge stiffened, his face going pink.
'And the one in green robes was the other. He tried to keep the other man from deviating.'
"Both Shen Yuan and Liu-shixiong professed the same thing," Mu Qingfang said lowly. "And no one but Luo-shizhi and Cai-shizhi had an inkling he could speak before now, so it's not like they could corroborate stories. Nor would there be a reason to do so."
"In other words?" one of the peak lords asked.
"In other words, there seems to be no indication Shen Yuan is lying. Moreover, it's true that Liu-shixiong had a qi deviation. The stories seem to line up."
"...Shen Qingqiu, you really tried to save Liu-shidi?" Wei Qingwei murmured.
Instead of answering, the man just scowled and turned away, glaring toward Shen Yuan.
"This thing has been eating all across my peak. So, what are we going to do with it now?"
"Shen-shifu, apologies for this disciple's rudeness. However, Shizun is a he, not an it," Luo Binghe replied, bowing respectfully.
Active sparks of anger clashed between the two. Shen Yuan pointedly tried to ignore it.
"Hmm... It is clear that Shen Yuan is...more advanced compared to other spirit sheep. Perhaps we should see how much so. A better indicator to determine whether he could have helped Liu-shidi and Shen-shidi would be if this sheep has sufficient qi to do so. Mu-shidi?"
"Yes."
The doctor came forward, nodding at the disciples, who bowed in return.
"Please check the state of Shen Yuan's meridians."
"Then, if this one may..."
"Ah, yes."
Shen Yuan leaned forward, offering his forehead as he closed his eyes. His huadian stood out strongly, a neat drop of red on his otherwise white-furred face.
Mu Qingfang reached out and placed his palm against it. Then, he slowly began to flow his qi through his body. Being unaccustomed to doing such a thing to a non-human entity, Mu Qingfang was especially careful. If he pressed the wrong way or tried to force it through, it could greatly harm the sheep.
The doctor wondered if the sheep knew just how vulnerable he was making himself.
But such thoughts stuttered to a halt the more he explored. This was...
"...Asking Cai-shizhi. How old is Shen Yuan?"
"Answering Mu-shishu, Shen Yua--...Shen-shishu is nearing two years old."
Mu Qingfang went quiet for a moment before nodding, slowly reeling his qi back in.
"Then, in that case. Ahem... Reporting to Zhangmen-shixiong. Shen Yuan is more than capable of assisting medically during a qi deviation."
Yue Qingyuan blinked, surprised by such an assertion.
"What makes you say so, Mu-shidi?"
The man adjusts his glasses before speaking again.
"...Within the two years of this spirit ram's existence, he has already formed a golden core."
About the Shen Yuan is the System AU...............
How evil do you think Cucumber is going to become when he finds out Airplane is the other transmigrator? No, better yet, how panicked Airplane gets when he finds out WHO is in charge of his System now?
Do you think Airplane wakes up one day, his System blasting alerts and blinking red while he is still trying to understand whats happening? It was his of day too! The first one after three years of plot nonsense! It takes him a moment to open all the notifications and when he does... He finds a very particular pattern of writing, one that he hasn't seen since he woke up in his own story.
I bet he'd be shiting bricks. Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky would be falling into his knees the moment he finishes reading all the 267 messages left by Cucumber and starts begging for mercy.
But Cucumber at this point doesn't see Airplane as a peer, or someone besides the hack author that deserves to suffer for what he wrote.
And he is an internet troll.
Airplane is a master of crying, and he has refined the most pathetic meowmeow acting show to perfection, but the bigger question is...
Would it work on Cucumber bro?
:3
ah the cackling i did when I opened this, bless u friend
Let's talk about the SYstem, if you will
I have soooo many ideas about how that would go down. Because the System just treats SQH like any other transmigrator, I don't think SY figures it out immediately. And I will give SQH the peace of mind and say the System only picks up thoughts directed at it, it won't be sending SY every stray thought SQH has - both of them would try to off themselves if it did I think
Airplane figures it out first. Clearly. SY is distinct in his patterns and of all the things Airplane forgot about his first life - he remembered Peerless Cucumber's handle. He KNOWS this motherfucker. Better than SY knows him since he never figured out Airplane had burner accounts. So finding all these messages from THE SYSTEM that are now distinctly less robotic and many times more unhinged by sheer volume - boy is pacing around An Ding and just shrieking.
Gotta play it cool though. Gotta not let his biggest anti know he is holding his already pathetic life in his grubby hands. WHO GAVE HIM THIS POWER?? He takes back everything he said about the OG System. He wants that old piece of shit back!
When he braces himself enough to finally reply "S-system?"
<Oh good! You're awake!> and why is that the most haunting thing he's ever heard. The voice is still... robotic, but there's emotion there now, something human behind the wheel. <Did you get my messages?>
"Ha.. ha. Yeah. Airplane's 10K a day has nothing on you, huh transmigrator bro?"
Oh and there he goes. The ranting. Direct into his noggin. Love it. Great. His second life wasn't hell enough!!
He tries - valiantly - to hide he's Airplane for awhile. He gives one of his burners (Mobei's Popsicle) and SY spends awhile cackling about how fitting it is for him to be Mobei's dog now. Which. Rude. Uncalled for. His King didn't kick dogs. He kicked SQH.
SY is, shockingly, empathetic for all his teasing. He chats with Airplane as he reviews past missions and such Airplane has been dealing with for the last quarter of a decade. And tells him more about his hidden stats and the status effects he's placed on other NPCs and events than the System EVER did.
He really, earnestly, wants to improve the story. To give characters growth and more fitting ends. So that the world around Binghe is as vibrant and cool as he is.
It's honestly a little sweet. He only ever saw the rage thrown his way. He never really understood why Cucumber kept reading. He remembers his unfinished drafts, the original notes. He thinks this guy would have actually enjoyed his writing then.
<...>
<What do you mean your writing?>
SQH freezes and swears and there is yelling. Obviously. He still has his work to do on the peak and one of his shidis (he's still only head disciple, though the current lords are preparing to step down soon) probably gives him a look wondering if he's about to qi deviate or something when he's just clutching his head and yelling at... something. But then again this is An Ding. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with stress. They shrug and leave him to it for now, give it ten minutes, if he's still freaking out THEN they'll fetch shizun.
BUT! This transmigrated SY has not suffered bs or recently lost his sweet disciple to the abyss when he meets Airplane. So there is just. Normal Shrieking. He does threaten a punishment protocol but decides against it because really. This man, crouching and sniveling in the dirt, who has spent more of his life HERE then in the real world...is just very.... well. He's like a wet cat. Incredibly pathetic and likely to make SY irritated if he spends too long in his presence.
In the darkness of the System, Shen Yaun just pinches his nose again and waves a digital hand. <That confirms it. YOU are fixing this mess.>
Airplane just... lays down in the dirt for awhile and looks up at the sky. How did this happen. Why did this happen. What fucking atrocities did he do in a life he clearly cannot recall to deserve any of this??
<New mission incoming. I'm not even going to read this stupid little script the System provided me - you WILL accept. It's mandatory.>
"UUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH."
"Shixiong?" There's suddenly a round faced disciple leaning over him, blocking the view of the sky and cutting through Peerless fucking Cucumber's ranting. "Are you dying?"
"No, but if you like your shixiong even a little you will kill him. Go on. Show shixiong how strong you are."
The younger boy huffs and, gently, pokes Shang Qinghua's head with his foot. "No way. I don't want your chores."
Shen Yaun woke up in pitch darkness with those words glowing green before his eyes.
He's dead. But he's not.
His memories conjured up teens uploaded to the world of Digimon when he examined a body made of lines of code and that same green glow. His body.
[You can you up — no can no bb!
Welcome [Admin001]!
To fix [Proud Immortal Demon Way] you must achieve what you have stated: to transform a piece of stupid writing into a high-end, expansive, and classic work.]
This System is at your disposal. As [Admin001] improves [Proud Immortal Demon Way], this System will be able to download new abilities and upgrades for you to access.]
Well. Huh. Not the usual transmigration but Shen Yaun cracked his digital knuckles and boy that's a weird sensation. Shen Yaun was going to think about what he was later.
<System?>
[Yes Admin001?]
<I want to start at the beginning. When Luo Binghe's mother is still alive.>
[ERROR]
<Already!?>
[Unauthorized access to [Protagonist: Luo Binghe]. [Admin001] cannot access the [Luo Binghe] profile yet due to feature [Golden Halo] which blocks outside interference. [Admin001] must influence other roles and locations to transform the narrative.]
<So the Protagonist Halo is a fucking firewall?>
[In short - yes.]
Shen Yaun groaned. Typical. No help. 0/5 stars on this .exe so far. He pinched his nose just beneath his glasses and why the fuck did he need glasses? Useless!
Okay. He could do this.
<System, retrieve available profiles.>
[Retrieving available profiles...
Profiles found:
[NPC: Yue Qingyuan]
[NPC: Shen Qingqiu]
[NPC: Linguang Jun]
...]
What the hell was with this list, System?? The Scum Villain, the Sect Leader, and a shit demon from the Northern Desert Arc?? He crossed his legs, the darkness oddly comfortable around him, bending to his will. He reached out and scrolled through the glowing text.
<There has to be a better- Wait, System. Why is this one different? This is just that rat bastard spy for Mobei Jun!>
The words [User001: Shang Qinghua] glowed in brilliant gold among all the other green text around him.
[The account of [User001: Shang Qinghua] is available for [Admin001]'s influence. Unlike other offered accounts, which can only be reprogrammed in accordance with this System's abilities, [Admin001] can interact directly with [User001] to guide the story to its proper conclusion!]
Shen Yaun tapped a finger to his lips and thought about it for a moment. He would need to level up, it seemed, to get full control over the other NPCs. But something about Shang Qinghua was different. Wait a second. He leaned forward on his invisible chair.
<Is Shang Qinghua another transmigrator?>
[Correct! Correct! Correct! [User001] is bound to the [Shang Qinghua] account. [Admin001] has the ability to activate [Manual] mode and deliver messages, missions, rewards, and penalties as he sees fit in alignment with the Systems protocols! This System will continue to provide [Admin001] aid and take over management of the account again during [Sleep] and [Auto] modes.]
Now they were talking. Shen Yaun rubbed his hands together gleefully. He would figure out how to get upgrades as he went. First, he was going to check out this other transmigrator.
Getting Shang Qinghua though? Yeesh. Unlucky. Only landing Shen Qingqiu could be worse.
