Why the cast was describing it as: hopeful, and believing you would leave the theatre feeling happier. A satisfying end to the Skywalker’s they said.

One thing I am both grateful for and…. really upset over is that for like 10 minutes, we get Ben Solo as free as he’s ever been. And just from the like, 3 clips I’ve seen, the difference in his physicality, his expressions and his energy is so completely opposite from Kylo’s… I just want to applaud Adam for giving us that. Kylo’s every movement looked so… restrained and stiff in comparison? Like he was holding in everything that he is, putting it all away. And he looked so pained most of the time. Tried to stay as stoic as he possibly could. Seething.  But Ben? Fuckin’ wild XD. The determination, the confidence, the sass, the absolute badassery… Always grateful that we got to see that. But upset that that’s all we got… Just when we started seeing who he really is, they ripped him away. But what we did get was fucking beautiful. As this tweet so elegantly put it:

First I recall leaks of Disneyland costumes coming out and Kylo being in Ben solo/Jedi clothes. Rey costume was holding his lightsaber and little kids costumes were fashioned too. Everyone is thinking Ben is gonna get a HEA. JJ is searching for the casting of a young boy with brown hair.

Then mid year talking about reshoots and restructuring. I suspect this is the cue that the happy ending got trashed. Can’t blame Adam for “feeling sick” at these premieres. Honestly for a guy who said he perceived reylo as “sentimental and obvious” , for him to study so hard about this character from every angle, and for jj and company to trash how hard he worked for it is a crime. He said it was supposed to be the reverse version of Darth Vader…in the begining. They just used his Oscar worthy acting to lift the series.

This would perfectly explain why Adam was so bitter in a way during those interviews. They screwed him and his character over so bad. I don’t blame him for wanting to distance himself from LF.

BUT…

If Ben ever comes back, I really hope he considers…

Seeing how people say that all known Jedis were talking to Rey...I can’t help but roll my eyes! I don’t even want to listen to it! Because it feels so insulting! Ben suffered for 30 fucking years and no one helped him! Not a single Jedi! And here they are helping the last Palpatine kill the Original Palpatine...And not even help the descendant of the chosen one because he was “lost” and he should be helping himself. BULLSHIT! Ben Solo was the victim! I’m crying! FUCK This feels so personal!

Anyone who praises this shit is no Star Wars fan. I hate having to use this fanbro argument but it’s true because TROS was a middle finger to the Skywalker saga and family. If Rey had stayed a “nobody” like Rian intended it wouldn’t be offensive. But they decided to make her a Palpatine and in the process fucked everything up. I’ll talk more about this on my rant post but Palpatine destroyed the Skywalker family. His granddaughter taking the last Skywalker’s life force and him dying in the process it’s Palpatine destroying the Skywalkers all over again. Palpatine won. It should have been called “Rise of Palpatine”.

Tragic romances can work beautifully, so long as the audience gets to see the actual romance before it all goes downhill.

Romeo and Juliet exchanged wedding vows in secret. Anakin and Padme spent time frolicking through the fields of Naboo together. Will and Louisa went to Mauritius for a romantic getaway. Jack and Rose had their iconic "I'm flying!" scene.

But Ben and Rey had none of that. A man who was preyed upon since conception, who wanted nothing more than to be "free of [his] pain," was freed only in death. A woman who spent her entire life longing for a family of her own was finally(!!!) rewarded with one for all of ten seconds, before regressing back to square one, as if her whole journey was a nihilistic game of 'Snakes and Ladders.'

That ending is neither 'hopeful' nor cathartic. And it certainly has no place in a fairytale.
