Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Fantastic Breasts and Where to Find Them
That second to last panel is chilling.
reblogging again for linzeestyle’s tags, because, OMG, *TRUTH*
#fandom#harry potter#this is the real reason fandom is mocked derided and insulted by creators#because it *can’t* be packaged and resold#because our culture doesn’t know how to sell sex to women outside of the male gaze#and because women have created a community where they don’t need to buy anything to get what they want#and to people whose entire livelihoods#depend on creating and marketing unattainable ‘perfection’ to young women#telling them what sex and sex appeal is#how they should feel about it#and how they should desire it#and what they need to buy to be worth it#our entire economy is based on women being cut into parts and those parts being sexualized#and turned back around and sold to men and women alike#and fandom doesn’t participate#it creates its own economy and there’s no space for that model#that’s terrifying#and the people who used to hold all the cards mock it#because they lost the ‘C&D and shut-down’ alternative
#and because women have created a community where they don’t need to buy anything to get what they want
I think about this ALL THE TIME. I fucking love it.
Fandom is the most brilliant, beautiful, collaborative, critical, deeply subversive stuff there is and I ADORE IT TO PIECES.
And no, it’s not all women—certainly not, absolutely not. But I’d say it’s vast majority women. (…Ridiculous crazy vast majority anybody-except-cis-men.) I know I often think of fandom as a feminine and/or queer-centered space.
I’m reblogging for the added commentary and to add a link to a meta I recently came across. The whole thing is worth a read, but the first paragraph really resonates:
The types of fandom that are most often considered traditional and acceptable, and which are often either male-dominated or coded as masculine, tend to be acquisitive, whether in terms of knowledge (obscure trivia) or merchandise (collectibles). Whereas, by contrast, the types of fandom most often considered insincere, non-serious or “unreal”, and which are often either female-dominated or coded as feminine, tend to be creative, such as making costumes, writing fanfic and drawing fanart. (via fozmeadows)
I love this! Ofc young women/nb people/queer ids in hostile internet spaces are really into making things and presenting them instead of themselves.
as a queer man, fandom was the first place i saw people like me get to be in love and not die for it.
Speaking of that second-to-last panel, and this last comment from jumpingjacktrash, fandom was the first place I saw people like me get to be in love and be treated lovingly in return.
I was handed over to my husband-to-be by my father with his directions to me that I allow sex when I did want it, and his directions to my husband that he should force himself on me even if I refused. My husband followed these directions.
Fanfiction was a place where I could fantasize about people who took no for an answer and genuinely tried to make one another happy.
Well, crap. That was supposed to be ‘allow sex when I did NOT want it’.
Rey is used to fixing broken things.
She’s making it nice for him when he comes back 💗💗💗

Ahch-To
TROS novelization is pure Kylo Ren erasure and it shows. Kylo Ren and Ben Solo are the same person. Ben had to become Kylo Ren to survive after the incident at Luke’s temple. Rey, his other half, his wife, his force bond mate, helped him appreciate Ben Solo more but the reality is that there will always be a part of Kylo Ren in him.
And it is possible for both personalities to exist in the same person.
No one anywhere has just one single trait, since humans are complex. Same for him and it’s extremely bad writing to suggest that he can only be one or the other and not both.
Burn.the.novel.
Exactly this.
The novel tries really hard to pretend that none of these things happened: -Kylo Ren was merciful to Rey in the interrogation compared to other prisoners -Kylo Ren offered to teach her in the Force -Kylo Ren told Rey her greatest weakness not to take advantage of her, but as a sheer statement of fact to get her to stop projecting on other people -Kylo Ren sat and listened to Rey talk about how alone she was -KYLO REN TOLD REY SHE WASN’T ALONE -KYLO REN TOUCHED HER HAND -Kylo Ren killed his master rather than kill Rey -Kylo Ren nearly died fighting Snoke’s guards to help Rey -Kylo Ren offered Rey to rule by his side But yeah go ahead and pretend that all villains are 100% bad, everything they do is evil, and evil is just some schizo alternate personality that you can just turn off at will if you’re “really a good person.” Just keep pretending that true love is about saying you only love your partner’s best side and not his flaws/weaknesses/insecurities too.
All of this.

Adam Driver on the set of The Last Duel 2/27/2020
The whole cast was downstairs in a conference room, talking through what’s supposed to happen at this big event. She [Carrie Fisher] was like, ‘Just pretend you’re down to earth. People love that shit.’ So now I pretend I’m down to earth and you know what? People really do love that shit. They eat it up.
