Richie's Battered and Broken

This project was my Final for my photo one class.  It was a pretty straight forward assignment, we had to make a composite image.  A composite image is when you take something from one photo and put it in another photo.  I moved my friend from the photo on the top left into the picture of the underpass on the top right.  The bottom image is the finished project of the two images together.  The reason I put them together is because when you flip the one image of my friend it looks like the light from the underpass is shining in that exact direction.  I'd say it's pretty realistic considering that you could definitely see her standing in an underpass because it's a normal place.  I'd also together the new image isn't particularly more interesting, but they fit well.

This was another photo from my light assignment when I shot in the rain.  Another thing that was neat about the after effect of the rain was it added this hazy wet feel to everything.  It made everything feel almost fairy tale like.  The green in the grass and the moss really stand out and I loved that about the picture.

This photo was part of my light assignment in my photo class.  The assignment was to go out and experience different kinds of lighting, or how light effects an object.  I decided to shoot on a rainy day.  The light gave this gloomy kind of gray look to everything so I found my bright purple shoes and put them outside.  It was a super dramatic contrast with the light.

This piece is titled Spots and was painted by Lorraine Shemesh.  This was the most expensive piece I saw at the art expo and it cost $150,000.  I truly do believe that price is justified, this piece is just magnificent.  It looks like someone just printed the photo, but it's an oil painting.  It must have taken so much time and care to get it that amazing, and time and care deserve to be rewarded.

This was a piece created by Hans Hofmann, and was a piece that I didn't enjoy as much at the art expo.  While I know a lot of people enjoy abstract art, I just don't get it personally.  To me it just looks like scribbles in crayon.

This lovely piece was done by Joseph Raffael and is titled Spirit of Nature.  This piece was most definitely my favorite piece walking around the expo.  Not only are the flowers beautifully painted but the colors are so eye pleasing!  I just loved the vibrant pinks and purples it's really beautiful.

This photograph is taken by Shterna Goldbloom and is titled Garbage.  This photo is a great example of the formal element of Space.  I just really love the way the alley gets smaller towards the back of the picture it gives a real sense of depth.  Another thing that gives a sense of depth is the size difference in the people.  It gives a real sense on what's closer and farther from the picture.

For my photo one class we were assigned to make a diptych.  To put it simply, it's two photos put together to create one art piece.  We went on a field trip to Chicago to see this really awesome mural along a wall, and I found these along the way.  What was really neat was that both things had this idea of listening, but were in two totally different places.  One was painted on an underpass, and the other on a record stapled to a log.  I thought together they'd make a spectacular piece, and that's why I put them together.

This was another photo from my Pilsen photo shoot.  As we were walking around a lot of the murals were original ideas not really based off of anything in pop culture. I thought it was really neat to see an Iron  Man themed mural.  Mainly because it was a cool way to take an already existing character and make something amazing out of it.  The other thing that I loved was the really pretty eye-catching colors surrounding him.

This photo is taken by Fabiano Parisi and I believe this is an excellent example of the formal element of texture.  A lot of different textures are portrayed in this picture.  Everything's all broken and jagged and pointy which makes it look like if you touched it you'd get hurt.  Not only does it look pointy, it looks rough as well, due to the chipping paint and hard walls.  Overall I think this picture In general is beautiful.

This was the second photo from my portrait photo-shoot, and it was interpreted by one of my classmates.  He thought the suggested mood was sadness, which I'd also agree with.  He also thought that the way she was holding the flower made him think that she'd lost someone.  Or, that someone had recently left her life and she was holding onto the last thing she could.

This is one of the photos I took during my portrait photo-shoot for my photography class.  My sister graciously said that she would be my model and the outcome was outstanding.  The theme of the shoot was to depict sadness and depression in interesting ways, hence the paint.  When struggling with depression you're almost constantly sad and feel like you're going insane.  The paint was to emphasize that emotion in a way you could see it.  It looks like she's been clawing at her face I a fit of insanity, which I thought was pretty neat.

This was the second half of our object photo-shoot.  The first post was to describe the formal elements, this is to take something ordinary and make it extraordinary.  I have a lot of oddly shaped objects in my room and these two bottles stood out to me the most.  I wanted to use the bizarre shape of the glass to contrast the fork.  I placed the fork atop the bottles to get an interesting shot of the underside of the fork.

For our photography one class we had to take pictures of an ordinary household object.  My focus was forks and of all the photos this was the one that turned out best.  What I was trying to get across was the contrast between the texture of the forks as opposed to my hats.  The fork is very pointy and has a smooth texture. Whereas the hats look more soft and fluffy.  Not to mention that the more organic bendy lines the hats create is very different from the angular shapes of the forks.  The last difference was the color, considering the hats are vibrant lime greens, ocean blues, and chocolate browns brilliantly contrast with the silver of the forks.

This was the second photo I brought in for the good bad photo critique.  This was obviously my bad photo. It's bad due to the fact of how blurry and dark the picture is.  But, she has a good smile doesn't she?

The teacher in my photo one class wanted us to bring in a "good" photo for a critique in class.  This was the one that I choose, it's a picture of Anna and Elsa in the Festival of Fantasy parade in Disney World.  I thought the picture was pretty good, but I had one detail off.  The photo is backlit which takes away from the color of the characters.

This photo was taken by David Drebin and is titled "White Nights".   I thought this was a really great example of value in a photo.  While it's not strictly black and white, the background is dark and the dress has a much lighter value.  I also enjoy that this photo has a wide range of values from the brightest on the dress to the darkest of the room surrounding her.
