here’s my take on the “hits different” thing. it’s not hitting all that different for me, but there is something new about how I perceive old moments. I don’t think it depends on having a confirmation as much as getting more context to our assumptions. while we might have already believed certain things before, now we have some insight in dan’s emotional state during certain moments and specifically regarding phil. dan has always been openly affectionate toward phil, but never before this genuinely and without a single layer of sarcasm. confirmation is beside the point for me. hearing him speak for the first time so candidly about the role that phil has played and still plays in his life was the game-changer. being allowed access to some of the thoughts and feelings behind moments and situations that we have been thinking about for so long only relying on our imagination to fill in the gaps, that is what hits hard.
