#see they probably disinfectanted him before putting him on the ship to prevent any additional bacteria or some shit #so i actually don't think he had dirt left under his fingernails #which personally is even sadder for me #he tried so hard to cling to any tiny piece of earth he could before they shipped him off #and they took that from him too —from @plumbley-bee

As in, he's not wearing them when he's loaded onto the Hail Mary, so he's not wearing them when he wakes up. He only finds them when he goes rummaging through his stuff & they sort of feel like an afterthought.

Do you think there were smudges of dirt on the frame and grit in the hinges.

Do you think he wiped the dirt off because he didn't remember where it came from.

thinking about Ryland in Ilyukhina's dress at the beginning of the movie - outside of it making sense given how drunk he was, and the logistics of using any available clothing later on...

i just think there is something really heart wrenching and human about putting on the clothes of others to feel some sense of closeness. at this point he barely had any idea who he was, let alone the people dead on the ship with him. it would make sense he'd layer on any and all clothing and accessories, hoping to jog his memory, to feel less alone, to feel comforted

also - just to add on, the idea that he was putting on all of these different articles of clothing to figure out what felt RIGHT to him. he had no memories or preferences to work with at first.
