“what do you like most about your generation???” probably how committed we all are to high school musical
I used a Sharpie-like thing and it turned out so much better. I’m actually kinda proud of this one!
Also, sorry for the new post. I wanted to show the cropped and up close version.
Between Bum and Sangwoo, Sangwoo is the one who has no choice.
He is the one whose actions should be “excused” due to mental illness.
Bum isn’t completely out of it, no way, he is sick too but sometimes, sometimes has a choice.
Bum chooses and he chooses badly.
you’re joking right ???
Someone who is literally unable to understand morality is being judged by his moral choices.
lool and bum does?? like in thesame capacity as other people??
btw not understanding moral consequences doesn’t excuse your actions like at all and sangwoo DOES understand he just does not care. he’s highly intelligent he chooses to ignore morality cus he does not can
No, I said in the post that Bum can’t most of the time either, but sometimes he can be and he still chooses the bad option.
It actually does excuse those actions actions, you just think it doesn’t because you are projecting your own moral compass onto a situation where it’s not valid. The end point is not important, it’s intention, intention is what makes people bad.
If I choose to hurt someone, I am evil. If it’s an accident and I apologize, I’m good. If I think what I’m doing is good, but it’s actually bad, then I’m not “bad”, because I intended to be good.
im not projecting my morality unto him by your own rules what bum has done is practically fine because he justified it with love.cant hold bum to different standards as sangwoo cus you relate. i personally find sangwoo morally reprehensible as a separate issue but sangwoo understands that and can comprehend moral rules but chooses to ignore them. people don’t have to subscribe ti moral rules to be held under them. and if you want to go deeper and more philosophical you’d say a moral standard does not exist which is beither here or there in relation to sangwoo. the point is that not understanding or comprehending something doesn’t mean you cant be held accountable under said thing.
I don’t “relate”. I said twice that he only sometimes can be held accountable for what he does. Bum says in the very very first chapter that he knows what’s happening to him, he knows he is falling into it again, which shows that he understands.
He didn’t mean to do it, it doesn’t have the same meaning to him. This doesn’t make what he did not bad, which I think is what you think I’m saying.
I’m not saying what Sangwoo does is not bad, it just wasn’t “bad” for him, he didn’t mean to be “bad”. It gives some insight to him, he thinks what he does is what’s good, what he is meant to do, and so in Sangwoo’s universe and his twisted sense of reality, Sangwoo is actually “good”.
i never said it was bad but that he did mean to do it and nevertheless not meanig to do it doesn’t make him any less culpable.sangwoo is a manipulator he knows for a fact tht what happened to bum was rape. he was intentionally being obtuse to be further manipulative. sangwoo knows and understands wrongdoing as most people with that MI but dont care and aren’t weighed down by it. not meaning to do something doesn’t make it any less ‘bad’ abd sangwoo does know what he is doing.
“sangwoo is a manipulator he knows for a fact tht what happened to bum was rape.”
He doesn’t, actually. That was my whole entire point. Thank you for showing you didn’t understand it.
he actually does and that is clear he understands it he just doesn’t care
Actually, he does not, not 100%. It’s extremely agreed upon that Sangwoo most likely has psychopathy tendencies/is psychopathic, or as in this article, a “Secondary psychopath,” because it appears this disorder is a product of his environment than genetically. The article states, “In the early 1800s, doctors who worked with mental patients began to notice that some of their patients who appeared outwardly normal had what they termed a “moral depravity” or “moral insanity,” in that they seemed to possess no sense of ethics or of the rights of other people.”
Sangwoo honest to God does not know that many of his actions are extremely manipulative or “bad,” because to him, other people do not posses rights nor does he have the same ethics as we “normal,” people do. Is this excusing his behavior? No, I would never say mental illness excuses any behavior or action– but this type of severe disorder can keep a person from having a choice in feeling exactly what is wrong and bad, they do not feel like we do– they may understand in a very… primitive, if not in a bare-bones kind of way, but that does not mean they truly understand the full extent of their actions and behavior towards others.
In this article, which you may find interesting, gives us this.
Psychopathic researchers found that psychopaths often have these common traits:
Lack of empathy, guilt, conscience or remorse
Shallow experiences of feelings or emotions
Impulsivity and a weak ability to defer gratification and control behavior
Superficial charm and glibness
Irresponsibility and a failure to accept responsibility for their actions
A grandiose sense of their own worth
“… They are very difficult to have relationships with because they lack social kindness and empathy. Researchers believe that psychopathy has roots in early childhood…”
And from this article again,
“According to Cleckley psychopaths show unreliability, while the PCL mentions “irresponsibility” and the PPI describes psychopaths as showing “blame externalization,” i.e. they blame others for events that are actually their fault …”
You’re right, Sangwoo does not care– and that’s because he can’t. He can’t feel a thing that Bum does, or others for that matter. People with Sangwoo’s condition, especially since Sociopathic disorder is very much so supported on environment and genetics, does not really have much of a choice to not ignore moral rules because he does not have them to begin with. He was cheated out of that– and the only way Sangwoo could possibly begin to comprehend moral rules and how they actually affect others truly is by extensive treatment, but considering how old Sangwoo is, he may be stuck as a “true psychopath.”
This does not make anything he does right, at all, but you need to understand your moral knowledge and understand will not fit Sangwoo’s, and the fact you understand them does not mean Sangwoo is choosing to ignore them, it’s the fact he has no choice but to because they mean nothing to him because he can’t relate nor understand them like we do.
Bum actually does have a much wider option to choice than Sangwoo does– Sangwoo is completely gone, he does not have bouts of sanity like Bum does. This doesn’t mean Bum is an idiot for making bad decisions despite knowing the right decision to make– of course his mental illness also plays a role in bad decisions because he wants love (although his version of love is sick and unhealthy since that’s all he really knows and he’s desperate), and we know Bum is more sane than Sangwoo in making morally right decisions, because Bum attempted to escape and he did not want to murder that Gay man from the bar.
Sangwoo may have been acting out this way because it reminded him of his mother’s helplessness of being raped and abused by his father and Bum reminds him heavily of his mother, and he hate’s feeling weak so these feelings would have made his temper flare and those with psychopathic disorder have very, very low patience when it comes to their emotions and being angered– and the fact Sangwoo does not understand Bum’s emotions or true feelings and intention there because Sangwoo literally cannot understand. Of course Sangwoo is acting out– and to us it is very manipulative, but this isn’t the same as when Sangwoo didn’t get the exact reaction he wanted after Bum murdered Jieun– no!
Sangwoo is actually upset, but only because he was angered due to the fact of course he’s disappointed Bum did not stab his uncle, but that Bum allowed himself to be taken advantage of like a weakling– like his mother, and did nothing, as if he had no choice– which to Sangwoo is a lie because to him a choice is to murder those who push you down– yet both his mother and Bum did not take that choice and thus lost.
Both Bum and him don’t know how to handle emotions, but Sangwoo is literally probably worse at this because if he is a psychopath than he has a way harder time understanding emotions and even dealing with his own when he has them. You don’t know if Sangwoo is reacting this way to be manipulative specifically and on purpose because Sangwoo’s thinking, moral-decision making and understanding of others around him are totally off compared to your’s or mine.
No one is saying Sangwoo is not held accountable for his actions, or that they are excusable.
Sangwoo is a sick, sick man, and instead of intense punishments for what he’s done– which I don’t really disagree with, but will say harsh punishments do nothing to psychopaths except make them worse– Sangwoo need’s literally psychological care and treatment, intensive treatment, for him to maybe start to understand what he’s done or how his thinking is and was is completely wrong and very bad, to others and to the society which he thrives in.
Bum is also sick, very sick, and in need of treatment too– but he is more aware, this has been proven in earlier chapters that he can be self aware, and until we see from Sangwoo’s perspective, I cannot guarantee Sangwoo also has moments of self awareness comparable to Bum’s.
Google is good, researching is actually fun, and the mentally ill should not have their terrible behaviors and actions excused but they also need to be understood and properly taken care of with special treatment and extensive care.
@yoonicidal Hope I didn’t make things worse.
*waves* Professional counselor here, I’ll add my bit.
Sangwoo is classically what used to be called a “psychopath”. Under new diagnostic criteria, he has Anti Social Personality Disorder (DSM V). He, and people like them, are very much as above described for psychopathology. Not all people with psychopathology end up like Sangwoo. But there are some.
Yoonbum, I feel for that boy because he’s CAPABLE of feeling, which Sangwoo is not.
Yoonbum has as much of a choice in his actions as anyone with mental health disorders do. He knows there are other options, but as someone who has never actually been treated for his issues (PTSD, Codependency, depression, hypersexuality as a result of RTS (Rape Trauma Syndrome), maybe some other things).
He has a technical choice, but let’s be honest, he can’t make the right one without serious help from a mental health professional. He wants to be important to someone. He stalks someone he admires, has obsessional characteristics.
I’m gonna be honest. I’ve read Stephen King since I was 11 years old. I learned what sex was by reading Tommyknockers. I’m almost 37 now. I have a degree in psychology, and a masters in counseling. I read Killing Stalking BECAUSE of how accurately these archetypes are being portrayed. I get so mad when people call this a porn, sure, it has sex, but that isn’t the focus. The level of sex is scarily accurate, and even the sex is about control, like most rape and molestation is about. It isn’t about sex at all, none of it is. This entire thing is about the characters mental states.
Everyone worries about their relationship. That isn’t a relationship, and no one that seriously reads this thinks this is a romance. It is a psychological thriller, written with extreme accuracy for a serial killer and a stalker. Sexual encounters are incidental to the story, and honestly, I’d be reading this even if there were none because that’s not the point.
Everyone is so worried about their “relationship” but hey let’s forget that one character is an obsessive stalker and broke into someone’s house, and another is a serial killer that murders people.
So glad someone said it though….

When you want to have Light Yagami’s drive but you’re really just Ryuk following aimlessly and stuffing your face with your favourite food when you can without anyone noticing.
Linda’s favorite person to paint/draw was Mello. She liked how expressive he was in everything he did, and how his beauty contrasted with his temperament.
Mello: So I walked into Matt's room while he was asleep and I knocked something over and he said “if you're a ghost or some shit please fuck off i'm too tired for this”
Imagine Light getting tired one day and just being so exhausted he can't think, and L just sighs and pulls him onto his lap. Light is angry about this and tries to resist, but L just ruffles his hair and presses a kiss to his face and goes back to working. So Light just sighs and snuggles into him for a nap
This fluff is feeding my soul right now
Confession: I need more Mello in my life
He looks really young in this panel but I’m loving this paradox - a child with a scythe in hand and a shinigami in his wake: young, but not at all innocent as he is cursed with the power to kill. Still, naivety shows in his appearance - he does not have the emotional maturity to be a “god” - to him, it is all a game of declaring power, control, and his victory against L (and his cohorts). Because it is as L says - Light, Kira, is childish and hates to lose. And this panel is the epitome of Light’s naivety.
also sneaky Shinigami hand on the scythe indicates that at the end of the day, the Scythe, the killer notebook, the power to kill ”judge” rests in Ryuk’s hands, not Light’s. Light’s agency is for the most part borrowed through supernatural means. he is not God, he merely plays God, while at the same time he is Ryuk’s plaything/entertainment. and i think he forgets that, which is what gets him killed at the end.
