Falleri’s AU Workshop: Lore Headcanon
So I am basically gonna post all the headcanons I acquire and any other fan theories I see from other fanfics that I honestly believe are so good it’s a shame they are not canon. I’ll start with my most favorite of them all, originating from Imyoshi’s Silver
That said, I will add my own spin to it:
If the soul is made of both light and darkness, and if Aura is the light of one’s soul; then what is its darkness? The answer, is Lore; a leftover remnant from First Humanity’s Magic. It is indeed Magic yet it is not; for Lore comes from one’s soul rather than from a divine source.
With Lore, the user can indeed use Magic, but it is limited to the user’s affinities instead of Magic’s nigh-limitless capabilities and applications. However, Lore does have an advantage compared to Magic, and that, or rather those, are Principles. Principles are to Lore what Semblances are to Aura, special abilities unique to the individual; that may either further support the user’s Semblance and vice-versa, or a completely unrelated ability entirely. An well-known example of Lore, would be the power of the Silver-Eyes, or as it could also be called, Lightforce (AKA: the Principle of the God of Light). Again, Lore is not Magic, yet at the same time, it is. Another good example would be the Grimm-Blood themselves (be it by birth, or by artificial means), since their transformation uses Lore instead of Aura; people think that upon transforming into their Grimm form the user forfeits the use of their Aura. The truth however, is that normally, people have to “switch” between Aura and Lore; with Grimm powers having an overwhelming inclination for Lore. Those who master both their Aura and Lore to such an extent that they can fuse both into one single energy (let’s call it Od) can completely bypass this limitation. One would think that those who discover how to use their Lore would not need Dust, but that could not be further from the truth. Again, Lore grants the ability to use Magic, but only the Magic you have an affinity for; otherwise, you cannot access that Magic (Elemental, or otherwise); that is where Elemental Dust comes in, to either supply for the lack or to help preserve Lore. Those who have absolutely mastered their souls and themselves can fuse both their Aura and their Lore into one single energy (Od); the upside is that the user can use both Aura and Lore capabilities without the need to “switch”, so to speak and their energy reserves are now equal to their combined total, and both their Semblances and their Principles are now stronger as a side-benefit. However because they are now one single energy source, the user should be more careful in how they spend their energy; since once they run out they are out of options. Lore Affinities are basically classified as: Nature Magic –Fire Magic –Water Magic –Wind Magic –Earth Magic –Lightning Magic Light Magic –Holy Magic –Time Magic –Creation Magic Darkness Magic –Dark Magic –Space Magic –Destruction Magic (Gravity and Ice are combination elements, and thus, require at least a Major Affinity in their component elements: Earth and Lightning for Gravity, and Water and Wind for Ice. Semblances and Principles usually denote perfectly the user’s Lore affinities.)
Falleri’s AU Workshop: Soul Attributes
This one is a bit more…different…than the normal headcannons. This honestly sounds more like the type of mechanism that would be applied in an online idle game than the normal show, but nevertheless would help accentuate the ways souls differs among individuals. The Soul Attributes can classified in four groups: Null Attribute, Material Attributes, Spiritual Attributes and Transcendental Attributes. Recently awakened souls do not have their attributes unlocked in their moment of awakening, except on exceptional cases, requiring more practice with use of it (via using Aura, Lore or Magic) before unlocking it’s attribute. We call this initial state as having Null Attribute.
An individual can only possess a Maximum of two different attributes. The Material Attributes are the most common and can be found on pretty much every average Huntsman and/or Aura User, and Spiritual Attributes are the most uncommon and often denote descent from a special bloodline.
Transcendental Attributes are possessed, almost as a rule, exclusively by Deities or Godlike Entities (barring some very exclusive exceptions).
Material Attributes can form a pair with other Material Attributes and Spiritual Attributes. Spiritual Attributes can form a pair with Material Attributes, other Spiritual Attributes and Transcendental Attributes. Transcendental Attributes can form a pair with Spiritual Attributes and other Transcendental Attributes (the probability of this is so so exceedingly rare that it is only considered in theory. In fact, even a Deity with a combination of both Transcendental Attributes would be considered to be exceptional beyond compare, let alone a mortal having both of them).
While the Soul Attributes are named after the elements, it is more for the sake of ease of identification and classification than it is due to any relation to its elemental namesake (Lore Affinities and Soul Attributes are NOT the same) Soul Attributes come into play when Auric, Loric or Magic attacks interact with one another. Also when Soul-based attacks come into contact with Soul-based barriers. The Attributes are as such: –Null Attribute: Null
–Material Attributes: Fire, Nature, Wind, Earth, Thunder, Water
–Spiritual Attributes: Light, Darkness, Spirit, Psychic
–Transcendental Attributes: Star and Void
RWBY AU Workshop: The One as Three and the Three are One.
Or, alternatively: How Aura Amp, if it turns out to actually be Soul Amp, would potentially be the single most disgustingly broken Semblance to ever be conceived of in RWBY and also the most dangerous. Especially, if it is also an inheritable Semblance.
Mind, Body, and Soul. These three are as interconnected as any link in a chain. The Soul projects its properties into the Body, which in turn influences the Mind, which in turn influences the Soul, which in turn projects its properties into the Body and so on so forth.
However, it also works in reverse as well in a process that is in tandem with the one above. The Body projects its properties into the Soul, which in turn influences the Mind, which in turn influences the Body, which in turn projects its properties onto the Soul, and so on so forth.
….I bring this into attention, because this was alluded to by Dr. Merlot in Grimm Eclipse, as a discovery on his studies of Grimm. There is also the implication of this via the way some Semblances are stated to be inherited, as well as to how the Silver Eyes were inherited from those descended by Ozma’s incarnations even when his vessels originally had no Silver-Eyed Warriors on their bloodline.
Because if Aura Amp is actually Soul Amp, that means that every use of it Amps the properties of the Soul, some of those properties were ones that were inherited from the Body (of which include recessive bloodlines; like the Silver Eyes from the God of Light and/or the Black Blood from the God of Darkness), properties which are amplified and will be transferred to the Body; permanently boosting the presence of those recessive genes.
Continuous use of the Soul Amp will continually boost the presence of those recessive genes until suddenly, with proper stimulus, the eyes (blue, green, brown; does not matter) explode in massive wave of silver-white light, and they have permanently been changed into silver and their skin has darkened to a dark brown to better resemble the bloodline’s originator. Similarly, if there was Black Blood genes as well, then best get used to living with black sclera as well as pale white hair to better resemble this bloodline’s originator.
The problem is, that if the Bloodline comes from the God of Light and/or God of Darkness; then your Mind will also be affected as a result in a manner not all that distinct from Mettle’s effects. Silver Eyes makes you akin to a templar who seeks Order and Preservation at all costs, and Black Blood seeks Chaos and Change at all costs. Having both would mean having a coldly detached yet fervently zealous mindset of “The End Justifies the Means”.
So, yeah; I posit that any Soul Boosting Semblance, on account of this relation, would also technically have a Bloodline Improvement effect, but might also have a dangerous Mind Modification effects as well.
“A Mystery of Blood and Bone. Bound by Spirit, Aura and Lore”
Interesting theory crafting and nice expansion on Lore as a whole. Since ‘Silver’ hasn’t been updated in quite a while, this spin is interesting. I imagine when one tries to combine aura and lore into Od….the process is rather violent.
1st try someone might concentrate to a single point (let’s say hand) trying to control and focus said conflicting energies would cause it to disperse. Then, someone might try to combine within the body to keep the energy contained. The real danger is you might end up tearing apart the body….hell the soul even more.
If the combination fails to happen, I think another cost should be added. The loss of either Aura or Lore as a whole. I imagine taking this route there are a select few that can switch between both, and even more that can create Od. Plus I would also think there are hunters that may focus solely on one aspect.
I was just finishing about meridians just now actually XD. Which are the pathways in which the Soul transfers its energies (Aura, Lore, Od and Mana/Magic) When one attempts to fuse Aura and Lore, I view it in the same manner as History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi's Sei Ki and Dou Ki. Sei Ki being Aura (Light and Warmth) and Dou Ki being Lore (Darkness and Cold). Trying to just forcibly and haphazardly mix the two together only results in broken meridians and the idiot losing access to use of Aura, Lore and if applicable, Mana as well. And this? This is the Best Case Scenario. Reminder: Soul, Mind and Body are separate yet entwined. If the Meridians, which are the bridges that connect a human's spiritual components (Soul, Mind) with their material components (Body, Mind) are ruptured, losing the ability to harness the power of their soul is the least of their worries. Mental and Physical Degradation are the obvious yet inevitable chain effects that follow. Loss of Memories, Loss of Cognition, Loss of Empathy, Loss of Temperament, Loss of Body Movement, Loss of Energy, Loss of Appetite, Loss of Bladder Control, Loss of Movement Control, Increased Chances of Heart Failure, Increased Chances of Brain Failure, Faster Aging, etc... The fusion of Aura and Lore should only be done by those who have studied the Ways of the Soul for decades, by those who lived and breathed Soul Training. For Example: Martial Artists (like Ren and Taiyang) and Monks from the Sect of Two Paths (An extremely reclusive religious sect that worships BOTH of the Brothers. Theoretically, Pyrrha would have descended from members of this sect and is, thusly, very well-versed on their teachings) would have a very high chance of succeeding in this technique due to the fact they have a very strong foundation of understanding of how the Soul and their energies work. Jaune Arc, along with others whose Semblances involve Aura Manipulation and thus grant them an instinctive grasp of how the Soul's energies move and operate, also possess a higher chance of successfully creating Od, given proper guidance (like say, from Glynda Goodwitch; whose Semblance, more than power, represents complete control). Some Martial Artists have understood how Meridians work so completely that they even developed a fighting style capable of temporarily shutting the target's Meridians by using their own Aura or Od in order to non-lethally (but still painfully) subdue their foes. The Ren Family's Renkashou [Lotus Flower Palm] and the Xiao-Long family's Yanglongquan [Sun Dragon Fist] are examples of such styles (though Taiyang is smart enough to not teach such an advanced technique of the family style to Yang when she is still temperamental and impulsive).
