Biography
Riley never really knew her parents. She likes to think they must have loved her, but they died long before she could truly recall them.Â
Left with nothing more than a picture to remember her by and a faint nostalgia whenever she catches the scent of lavender, there likely hadnât been much in way of grieving.Â
Being taken into the foster system at just shy of three years old should have meant a good shot with a nice family. She was hardly old enough to recall her old life, or mourn her dead parents. Thereâd be no rebelling under the guise of fake relations because it would have been all sheâd ever known...A family could never have even told her, and sheâd be none the wiser.
Instead, sheâd been placed with a pair that simply knew how to work the system. They would take on four kids at a time to make a quick buck and essentially leave them to fend for themselves. Sheâd been lucky in that one of the teenage girls had been kind enough to look after her, but by the age of 6 her âparentsâ had been found out, and she was right back where she started.Â
Riley bounced around homes a lot after that, unfortunate in who sheâd get picked by. It made her detached and bitter and angry, until she eventually got good at being self-reliant. The only person she could ever truly count on was herself. She didnât owe the world a god damn thing and it could hate her in turn for all she cared.Â
It was a mindset that got her through her teenage years, however equivocally. She was the stereotypical rebellious kid with a chip on her shoulder, even the potentially good ones she didnât let close. It got to the stage she hardly bothered unpacking the entire contents of her life from the bin bag they were given to carry it in, and by the time she was 15, group homes became her only option.  Â
It was perhaps one of the best thing that could have happened to her, joining a little found family of her own which consisted four other kids in the same predicament. All bad influences to be sure, yet still hers.  Â
Riley had always been lucky in that she was relatively good at school. She would stay out late and do a weekâs homework in one break time, sure, but it was the one thing sheâd actively put effort into.
The little group of siblings sheâd made for herself would often tease her about it, but they were still incredibly supportive.  Â
Even after getting faded out of the system, even after graduating and getting a scholarship to a college in California they had stuck together.Â
It was certainly a different life to the one theyâd had in Detroit, but it was thereâs, sharing a one bedroom apartment between the five of them while they all found their feet.
Things were going well until about four months ago. She was making decent money singing with a band sheâd met in college at the weekends, and her grades were near perfect. Still, it had been her 21st birthday, and after painting the town they had somehow ended up sneaking onto the Hollywood sign. Watching the world below, theyâd been drinking and talking about life into the early hours of the morning...
Conversations that were cut short, as a rabid beast from out of nowhere tore through the group before most had time to react. Riley had been the furthest away from the carnage, left with an offhand claw mark across her abdomen and bite mark on her leg as sheâd looked over to find one of her bothers with his throat ripped out before her vision went black.Â
Sheâd woken up in a hospital bed entirely disoriented and confused, a reaction the medical staff believed to be due to blood loss rather than the automatic alpha bond of whoever had turned her severed by a group of trigger happy hunters that very same night. Her doctors were far more perplexed by how sheâd even survived until theyâd been found that morning.
The sole survivor of a vicious animal attack, that was how the media had painted it, and were it not for what occurred the next full moon, Riley would have believed the same.Â
She had never felt a pain like the one she faced during her first shift. The omega can barely recall what she did even now, but it had been enough to cross paths with one of the Queensâ guards.
It was a terrifying new world sheâd stepped into. The Charbonneauâs were well known of course, but she perhaps didnât understand the hight of their power until that point.Â
Sheâd been detained for a few days before being offered a contract. One that something told her was relatively non-negotiable if she wished to not spend her life like the monster who had made her. An unruly, unbonded pup with no concept of what she now was or how to control it didnât bode well for anyone, and so the contract came with itâs own begrudging alpha to boot.  Â
Made to bond with a woman she vaguely recognised from some 3am cable show and knew nothing else about, itâs certainly made for a rocky start between the pair.Â
Riley hated how she now had someone she felt vaguely inclined to answer to, and Chiara was far too nice to be genuine. The past few months of helping her through shifts has mellowed her to a certain extent, but the young wolf still doesnât believe someone can be this kind out of nothing but the goodness of their heart. She doesnât trust it.  Â
Misc:Â Â Â Â Â
Riley never really talks about the night she was turned, or what happened for that matter. Itâs simply too painful and she doesnât trust anyone with a vulnerability like that.Â
Sheâs incredibly conscious of the large bite mark on her thigh, along with the claw scars across her stomach, but sheâs trying to work on it.Â
She was always more of a verbal fighter than a physical one, and was also far better at not raising to the goading of others, but ever since being turned the smallest things tend to set her off far more than they ever used to.
Sheâd never admit it out loud, but she sometimes finds animals easier to be around than people. She really wants to adopt a bunch of rescues, but she doesnât have her wolf under control enough for that yet and is worried what might happen to them.               Â
