In the MMO Guild Wars 2, for the Lunar New Year festival they use the same zodiac. However, dragons are an actual real creature that everyone knows about. But Guild Wars 2's lunar new year also features a zodiac of 11 real life animals and 1 mythical creature... the horse.

Because in GW2, horses don't exist.

Currently in Critically Acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, there is a bug that spawns, for no apparent reason, a level 1 nameless Antelope Doe enemy in a zone from 4 expansions ago. It does nothing, it has approximately no health, drops nothing, etc.

The vast majority of the playerbase makes regular pilgrimage to go stare at it. There is fanart. There is poetry. One of the main things to do while waiting for a party to fill is just to go hang out with the . There was a hotfix the night before last and people were actively *begging* the development team to leave this beast in the game as long as possible.

It is still there as of today.

I played WoW for years and there were so many lovely examples of players doing things like this. I remember on my server there being a funeral for a Horde player. Players from both sides showed up and for the most part were really respectful as his guild said goodbye to him. Even though Alliance and Horde players couldn’t communicate in game to each other, they still found ways to pay tribute to the player who was now gone.

I know people focus so often on the ways in which people online can be horrible, but there are also a lot of times in which people are lovely, kind, and creative. It reminds me how awesome humans can be.

I wasn't there myself but I remember the day in Guild Wars 2 when there was a bug that made everyone accidentally appear friendly in WvW (basically 3-server massive scale pvp with dedicated maps and capture points and stuff). And because they couldn't fight, the players did a peace march through the maps.

as someone who plays both gw2 and ffxiv I can't imagine describing shadow of the mad king to someone who plays xiv only. halloween in xiv is like here's a silly little sidequest that gives you some glam armor or a minion, maybe an emote if we're feeling like mixing it up this year. and then gw2's like here's a maze that we run around for hours on end killing the same mobs over and over to get trick or treat bags and candy corn. these are some of the best items for flipping on the market for profit and you can make hundreds of gold in a handful of hours. every so often everyone in the maze stops to kill a skeleton with a chainsaw the players have named steve. it's considered good etiquette to be under-geared so enemies die slower and everyone gets a chance to tag for loot. here's a jumping puzzle that only takes a couple minutes to complete but even veteran players struggle with it. in lore halloween started because a human king went insane and killed his family and then was executed by his subjects. he is now a minor deity and comes to the mortal realm to play simon says. his greatest adversary is a flamboyant zombie dictator that you killed years ago but the king's minions created a fake version of him because the king was depressed.

I know that we typically frame it as 'Rytlock fucked up because he trusted a human (god)' but can we talk about the angle of 'a human (god) taking advantage of the kindness of a charr'? Can we talk about how Balthazar, the most human of the human gods, viewed Rytlock as something to exploit for his own gain? How the human gods viewed Tyria as something to exploit for their own gain? Do you think the charr treated the first humans with kindness, understanding the crucible of war and extermination, only to be met with a betrayal so sound it left the charr and their culture beaten and broken? Sorry, I think Kalla Scorchrazor just possessed me.
