Kabsa - Saudi Arabia

Hello everyone. How was your thanksgiving feast? Did you eat turkey with stuffing? I hope everyone spent a great time and experienced Canadian traditional event with your host family. 

what is your favorite cuisine?

I know most people eventually prefer a required taste, but there is a variety of cuisine in the world that you never know or even hear. Today’s dish called “Kabsa” is from Saudi Arabia. You probably know this food because Andy had said it sometimes during the class. Kabsa is traditional home dishes in Saudi Arabia. There is a grilled turkey (or maybe chicken) with some spices on the yellow rice. The taste is really good. 

If you want to try it, there are some Saudi restaurant in Vancouver. Find a good one and tell me if you would like it!

Portuguese Sweet Rice - Portugal

Hi everyone! Before I talk about today’s topic, I’d like to ask some questions. What are some of things that your mother would make when you were a child? Sometimes when I was young, my mother would bring home delicious treats for us. She would always make sugar rusks made of bread crust. I have been remembering that taste clearly, It’s very simple cooking though.

Mom’s  home cooking in Portugal

Portuguese sweet rice is also easy to cook for everyone, you just only need white rice, a milk, sugar, cinnamon and a lemon.

The season why I introduce this dish is that my host mother is from Portugal. She often make Portuguese food at home, so now I know many Portuguese dishes, although I'm staying in Canada! As you can see this pic, it looks like a rice pudding. You can taste a rich lemon flavor and softly sweet rice. Unfortunately there are a few Portuguese restaurants in Vancouver. if you want to try it, you can cook by yourself because it’s easy!

Saskatoon Berry Pie - Canada

Hi everyone. Have you already eaten delicious food in Vancouver? If not yet, “The Flying Pig” should be one of your choices to go and eat the nice food. “The Flying Pig“ which is at Abbott street in gastown is the best place to eat a french toast. There are berries and fresh cream on the two slices of bread. The surface of bread is so crispy and inside is very soft that you can enjoy different types of food texture at the same time!

What is Canadian traditional food?

Perhaps you can think about poutine, maple syrup or beavertails. However there are many kinds of Canadian traditional food you never know. “Saskatoon Berry Pie” is made of berries grown in Saskatoon, Canada.

These look like blueberries , although they are related to the apple family. If someone knows good place to have it, please tell me because I’ve never try it too!
