The dark...er truth.
what ppl defending kids on ipads donât seem to understand is that there are other ways to keep kids occupied. my mom had a whole bag full of little toys and games for me to play with while waiting in lines at disney world. once your kid is like 7 or 8 they can read a book. they can color. or they can literally just sit there and imagine things. i did that a lot as a kid.
thanks for putting your wrong and bad commentary in the tags where i still have to read all of it. most of what you said is untrue.
OP: giving children too young to process things so much access to ipads isnât good for them maybe.
People in the notes: So you hate moms??? Youâre ableist?? You think we should go back to the Dark Ages?? (My personal favorite because it makes no sense) youâre poor shaming??
Why is it so difficult to explain that children not developing fine motor skills and losing their attention spans is bad actually??
Genuine question? Why do IPad parents act like there's nothing else you can give your child to play with. Ok maybe they don't like reading, or coloring and want to play something. Tetris consoles are still available, so are those handheld water game thingies ( where you have two buttons and the air pushes plastic rings around). These will occupy your kid for longer but still it won't make them what to rip your throat if you decide to take it from them.
Like your child should learn how to be bored but if you truly need a break there are better options than allowing them access to endless TikTok videos.
Know what's cheaper than an IPad? A fuckin etch-a-sketch, a little fidget toy, a stick.
also motor skills are important!!! a huge problem with ipads is that they don't encourage the development of hand muscles and children have been declining in fine motor skills for YEARS because they don't regularly play with toys enough and instead just tap a screen.
my mother is a grade school teacher and she's been a firsthand witness to this decline over 30+ years of classroom experience.
ipads aren't the only part of this problem though. schools aren't teaching penmanship anymore, and typing skills aren't practiced on mechanical keyboards (which require more force to use than chromebook keyboards/touchscreen keyboards).
kids need to be grabby and tactile for proper motor skill development. it's essential.

Some of you guys have never burned a CD and it shows
Some of you guys don't even realise I don't mean setting a CD on fire
Safety with non-electric heating, aka "Donât Fuck Around with Carbon Monoxideâ
If you donât have to deal with this kind of cold normally you might be tempted to use what you have for heat, but you might not know whatâs safe. This is non-exhaustive and Iâll link as many resources as I can, but the bottom line is you gotta be extremely careful when burning anything for heat because even with ventilation carbon monoxide can easily build up and that shit can kill you fast if you donât notice.
-Never idle a car in an enclosed space. If your garage is attached to your house, never warm up the car in your garage even with the door open. If your garage is detached, you can warm up the car in the garage as long as the garage door is wide open.
-Donât sleep in an idling car, especially during a snowstorm. A few reasons: First, if it runs out of gas during the night youâre stuck with no heat AND no fuel to get anywhere. If it snows overnight it could block your exhaust pipe and allow CO to flood the cabin. And this last one is rarer but even with a perfectly clear exhaust pipe, there could be a leak in your exhaust system that allows CO to build up.
If the car is the only warmth available, idle it for brief periods to warm up and then turn it off and set an alarm to idle it later. Open the windows every once in a while to vent the air.
-Never pile up snow around your car. Either you got snowed in, or youâre stranded off the side of the road. Youâd think that snow will insulate the car and let you stay warm longer- DO NOT. Snow makes it harder for rescuers to find you. It gets your car even more stuck and itâs really easy to damage your car in the process of digging it back out. Finally if you block the exhaust system too much then CO will quickly build up in the cabin.Â
-Never start a car when the tailpipe is blocked by snow. Even in the short time it takes to dig out the car, CO can reach deadly levels. Dig the car out first, THEN start it.
-Never use propane or charcoal (like a grill) for heat indoors. I get it, itâs available, but itâs incredibly dangerous. People have already been hospitalized in Houston this week from using their grills for heat. These grills are made to be used outside, where thereâs no way for dangerous gases to build up. Also, itâs a huge fire risk.
-Never use an oven or gas range for heat. Same reasons as propane.
-If your house has a fireplace and chimney, donât use it unless you know itâs been inspected and deemed safe. Just like a blocked exhaust pipe on your car, a blocked chimney wonât vent CO properly and it can build up in your home. Also, if it hasnât been inspected in a long time, it may be structurally unsound or full of stuff like twigs or squirrel nests that are a serious fire risk.
-If you have a gas generator, make sure itâs far enough away from your house. Never run it inside, or in a basement or garage.
-Get a battery-powered CO detector.

i am really losing it over the take of âwomen canât understand the genre where the characters say the themes of the story out loud to each other constantlyâ
the sheer emotional depth and complexity of superhero cartoons for little children
As a lifelong-fan of shonen anime and also a woman, Iâve made a little diagram of my experiences in their fandoms:
detective pikachu was a cute movie and all but the part where they drenched a mr. mime in gasoline before setting him on fire and watching him burn alive was really fucked up
hey op i didnât think you were serious
women in gothic horror be like âiâm just going to wander the freezing halls of this old mansion barefoot in my nightdress until either the ghosts get me or the consumption doesâ

âYes, there is a superyachtinvestor.com. Go look at it and it will make you so angry, you could chew glass.â
we stan class traitors on this blog
Abigail Disney has no control or input on the operations of the corporation, she is a Disney heiress and, in that respect, nothing else. She puts her money towards philanthropy, especially womenâs movements around the globe and peace organizations like Peace is Loud and the Global Fund for Women. She is a documentary filmmaker who explores these themes as well.
There are problematic family investments she earns money from that, legally, she cannot divest from. Instead, she donates these profits to charities that counter to those investments.
