The Good Batch
Happy Bones | New York, NY
I was actually on the hunt this morning. What am I looking for? Good question. DRIFT magazine, the (sold out) NY edition. See, I wasn't up on game early enough, so I've been hunting NY mag shops in hopes one will be tucked away for me. I dream big. But hey, I got the job I was talking about in my previous posts, so it's possible.
Back to the bones. I passed this coffee shop with the thought I'd just get "free" coffee at work this morning, but when I saw the abstract art on the cups, I decided I would be a couple minutes late. This shop was totally worth it. Though they don't carry DRIFT, they do carry some great publications. What are your thoughts on Surface? I need to check out a couple more before giving a review. This cover gave a great color pop to my photo though. I digress, again.
This is a cute little nook right across from the Little Italy entrance. Nice staff, great seating, and limited options. A OK with me... I like my coffee black. The shop is Kiwi owned so I believe they source their beans from New Zealand (I'll fact check and come back). All in all, delicious coffee and a cool ass atmosphere.
I’m all about the things that take more time. #teamdarkroast
Coffeed | New York, NY | Elevation 33'
Yes, I am wearing the same jeans as the previous post and this is the next day. As mentioned, I am picking my wardrobe out of a single backpack. First world problems? Another first world problem, there was an eggshell in my quiche. But, as a self-proclaimed chef extraordinaire, I know shit happens. The spinach, egg, and cheese quiche was a perfect masterpiece otherwise. The crust; flaky, the center; flavorful and warm. Mouth feel on point. That little morsel of an eggshell is so forgivable.
The coffee, obviously black, again, but very 'nitro' tasting. For my not-so-obsessive coffee drinkers, you get a 'nitro' when you add nitrogen to coffee and get a foamy coffee, but it has a very bold flavor. What I was excited to find out, is that Coffeed actually sources their beans from local farms. So instead of my coffee traveling 10K miles to get to me, it traveled about 10. With all the unfair treatment of farm workers, it gives me a little peace to know these beans are being farmed with a little closer eye. ALSO, Coffeed gives up to 10 percent of their profits to local charities. All in all, this place is pretty satisfying. Great coffee, great decor, and a great business model.
The City Bakery | New York, NY | Elevation 33'
I got called in for a third job interview. I've never done more than one for previous jobs. Does that mean my interview skills are slacking? Orrr the company is just super indecisive...or maybe busy. Yeah, I'm gonna go with the latter.
I packed one backpack and took a Spirit flight to get to NYC, so I'm trying not to mess up my one outfit before the interview (it's like hoping your kid stays clean before church). Luckily I wear a lot of black, and the music industry isn't much of a formal gathering.
Oh yeah, The City Bakery. Resting on 18th street between 5th & 6th avenues, has a very old school feel. The workers wear the old paper hats, and the tables have a 1920s diner feel. I didn't live in the 20s, but I'm imagining. Anyway, the coffee, black as you see, was delightful. Not sure where they get their beans from, I always mean to ask, but it had a full, rich taste. I also tried a spinach, egg white burrito, I won't order that again. I mean, it was protein and nutrients, but their was no seasoning and the spinach tortilla was wet and soggy. But overall, if I'm in the need of a coffee fix, and in the area, I'll stop in.

If I could whistle at that sandwich, I would. On my adventure to treat myself on International Women's Day, I ventured to a local joint next to the Amtrak Station. I guess that's how it got its name. Choo choo.
I've been there now 2 times, first a girls breakfast, and yesterday, bc I really needed to know if I liked it or not. It definitely has a mom & pop feel; a bell on the door, holiday decor, and well, you have to walk through tables to get to the counter. Selection is on point. I normally drink my coffee black, but today I decided to get a Vanilla Almond Latte. Well, it is Women's Day after all. I also grabbed a Saucy CJ sandwich. It was delicious. Roasted chicken served on foccacia, and that red pepper sauce, heavenly. It went well with my latte. Even though I should have just gotten my usual cup o joe.
I was a bit disappointed that they gave me my drink in a to-go cup, even though I said to-stay. My sandwich was on a real plate, my drink, therefore, should be in a real cup. Plus it's an independent coffee house, if I wanted a paper cup, I'd go to Starbucks. But I saw other's daunting mugs of glory, so my only hope was that mine, too, would be in a mug that fits ever so perfectly in my tattooed hands.
All in all, successful day for the coffee lady. #RIPmycoffee
