still obsessing over the alternate designs of gollum before the movies! the whole point of his physical design is to show how the ring erodes a person from their former state and omg the different versions expose so much about the artists perspectives.

so naturally i made my own design!

i think a deep sea fish interpretation of gollum adds a lot of physical nuance to his enslavement to the ring. since they evolve to spend their lives alone with limited resources, fish at these depths often have large, lamp-like eyes and a distended stomach like tolkein describes! shoutout to the telescope fish and the hairy anglerfish <3 also, its been interesting imagining gollum as more scary while reading the trilogy. his 3d rendering does a great job of inspiring pity, but how would the tone change if he inspired more alarm?
