The box.....
What we now know is that Doumeki was not looking for Yashiro during those 4 years. Yes he did know where he had landed after his group was disbanded, but he put his attention to his own life. Working on building himself into the Yakuza he thought Yashiro would respect. So they were both just existing in their own worlds. Not that they didn't think about each other, they did. Yashiro carried Doumeki in his dreams and his impotent body. Doumeki shut his self into a world of violence and solitude waiting on the day he would be able to present this new man to him. They both were equally fools. One wanting the old person and the other trying to be what he thought the other wanted, an equal.
Doumeki never understood Yashiro's motivation for letting him go and Yashiro didn't realize how much he was loved. That box could solidify how much he is loved. If you look in the right hand bottom under the type banner lays the bowl. He kicked it next to the box. 🤭

It's really interesting how Kamiya echoes Yashiro's sentiments here.
Kamiya shared this chapter about his abuse at the hands of his father, heavily implying, too, that his sister died as a result of that same abuse. The parallels with Yashiro are obvious.
Kamiya tells Doumeki that he's lucky because he still has a family to go back to, and Tsunakawa, before this, questioned Doumeki about why he felt he couldn't get a regular job and live a normal life, given the circumstances surrounding his time spent in prison.
All of this mirrors what Yashiro tried to make Doumekie understand and accept before the time skip. None of the people in the Yakuza are as lucky as Doumeki. Yashiro in particular never had anyone growing up. An abusive step father and a mother who couldn't care less about him. He was totally alone, which is how he ended up being vulnerable to men like Misumi. But Doumeki has never been alone. He has a sister who loves him, and a mother who loves him too, despite her failings. I've said this before, but I think it's always particularly rankled Yashiro to see Doumekie essentially spurn the gift of a loving family, and instead decided to voluntarily joined the Yakuza. It must be galling, because Yashiro never had a choice, and he probably couldn't understand why anyone would choose this life for themselves if they didn't have to. We see that same confusion in Tsunakawa and Kamiya.
It's just an interesting observation I made, and I wonder how it's going to play out through the rest of the story. I've had this idea in my head for a while that it isn't Yashiro, but Doumeki, who needs to learn a lesson about the importance of appreciating what you have. Thematically, it would make sense for Doumeki to end up being punished by the narrative for abandoning his family in pursuit of Yashiro, and I keep thinking the most dramatic way to drive that punishment home would be for Yashiro to die.
I'm probably totally wrong, lol, but it's just a theory of mine.
Either way, Yashiro is obviously going to go after Doumeki and try to save him. Doumeki's pretty much given up here, and no longer seems to have a will to live. Again, it would kind of make sense for him to watch Yashiro die in order to save his life, to jolt him out of his own, self-imposed misery, and to embrace the gift of a normal life and a loving family. More than anything, I think, that's what Yashiro always wanted for him, and in a way, it would be a way to honor Yashiro, to show the ultimate respect for him, by going back to a normal life.
Anyway, like I said, I'm sure I'm wrong, but something dramatic is definitely going to happen between Yashiro and Doumeki. I can't wait for the next chapter.
This whole thing is either going to end tragically, or maybe even have a bittersweet ending. A happy ending seems less likely, but you never really know.

Saezuru fandom right now be like
this is just my interpretation (as so much of saezuru is) (until 2 volumes later and context is provided lol), but I got the vibe that tsunakawa was impressed with doumeki not bowing to him, and further impressed that doumeki bore no pretenses about how he felt about yashiro. and because he was impressed, he got more pissed off. “this guy is so loyal and unwavering in his loyalty- the perfect right hand man. but not to me!!! god damn it!!”
tsunakawa understands love and the lengths one will go for it, so I don’t think he’s “finished” with doumeki. I think there’s more at play behind the scenes - we’ll have to see.
I’m curious about how a tsunakawa and yashiro conversation would go NOW, though. how many variation of “stupid” would yashiro call doumeki before he’s backed into a corner and tsunakawa realizes this insane devotion goes both ways lolol
a crucial piece of info is revealed in chapter 65: kamiya’s sister was killed by their abusive father, and kamiya subsequently killed their father for it. kamiya confesses this in the hotel, when he found out that doumeki acted similarly (attacked his father to protect his sister) while tsunakawa was berating doumeki for everything in the garden. he also says he wishes he had done it sooner, so she would still be alive.
so now this is very interesting and obvious parallel to be drawn between the two, not to mention it gives clarity to why kamiya is the way he is. imagine killing your own father, even justifiably, and still having lost your sister - no one in the world would ever be trustworthy again.
I think this solidifies kamiya’s begrudging respect for doumeki and also sets kamiya up to do something on doumeki’s behalf. I just don’t want him to take the fall either 🫠
¡Spoiler alert for chapter 65 of Saezuru! 🤗
Time has flown by. The previews for the new chapter are already out. Yashiro reflects on the words Doumeki told his. It's time to take action.
“What’s right…”
“…and what’s wrong…”
“Because you were there, I decided to keep living.”
“I don’t care if people think I’m irrational or the worst kind of person.”
“I wanted to become a man who could hold your shoulders in these arms.”
Meanwhile, Doumeki is doing his part. It's time to reveal the truth about his motivations for being in the yakuza.
I…
is where I belong… where I’ll keep living.
In order to move forward, they both must resolve their internal problems before the war begins within the yakuza.
