What? Robert is returning. Was absolutely not on 2025 Bingo card.
Well, I am back from my grave!! Let the chaos commence!!
You find a girl crying next to a grave. āWhatās wrong?ā You ask. She cries harder. āNobody came to my funeral.ā
Night watchman at a cemetary isnāt the kind of job most people want. Iāve always liked it, though. Itās pretty peaceful, most of the time, which is nice. Sometimes I get to chase off teenagers or would-be occultists or obnoxious drunks, which is fun. Thereās a lot of entertainment in a good chase, at least for me, and scaring the crap out of them is fun too.
Sometimes it gets sad, though.
It was my first walkthrough of the night when I saw the girl weeping beside the grave. It happens sometimes, and I never chase them. The cemetary is for the dead and the grieving. Theyāre always welcome here.
I went over to her, careful to keep the grave between us so I wouldnāt scare her. āWhatās the matter?ā I asked gently. āIs there anything I can do to help?ā
She shook her head, still weeping. āNo-one came to my funeral,ā she sobbed. āNo-one at all.ā
I checked the stone. Sheād been about seventeen. An age of strong emotions and fierce resentments. āIām sorry,ā I told her, and meant it. āThatās⦠always hard.ā
āIf they cared about me, they would have come,ā she wept. āThis means nobody cared at all.ā
āNot always,ā I told her gently. āSometimes it means that something else happened. If you like, I can try to find out.ā
āReally?ā She wiped her eyes. āIād⦠Iād appreciate that. Iām Lucy.ā
āStanley.ā She couldnāt shake hands, so I gave her a friendly nod. āCome with me, Lucy. Iāve got a laptop in the watchmanās hut.ā
She followed me, drifting silently, back to the hut. I brought her in, and made two cups of tea, offering her one. āIām not solid,ā she said, her lip quivering. āI canāt -ā
I showed her how to take it, the ghostly echo of the solid cup, and told her Iād learned it from the day attendant over at the columbarium. Sheās Korean, and knows a lot about hungry ghosts. She sipped her tea while I opened the laptop and ran the usual searches.
I do this a lot.
Sure enough, thereād been three major car accidents between the area sheād lived in and the cemetary. Thereās almost always at least one - thereās this one intersection that no exorcism, ritual purification or cleansing spell has ever worked on - and it usually helps. A lot of spirits want to know why someone they loved didnāt come.

It's You
My hands snake around your waist
And our bodies wreath together
Like a cold drenched puppy
To your warmth I surrender
Refuge I find in you
In a moment too divine
As my heart beats against yours
In the sundown and the sunrise
You barely speak so many words
Yet I could read the story of you
You always reach for my hand
Especially while I dwell in the woes
We fought, Ā We won
We fought, Ā We lost
Always together
Even when we were apart
Now I can admit
That its true
The sun isn't enough bright
When we are not side by side
For I am creature of the night
And you of the day
Two who were never meant to be
But found our indulgence
Spending every twilight together
Crazy in love
[This is a one shot. This takes place after Aaron and Robert walk back home after the Reunion 2.0.]
Aaron felt his hand heavy as if he had to pull Robert while they were walking together. He looks back and sees Robert has slowed down and is looking at the Mill with sadness in his eyes.
He knows exactly what Robert is thinking. It is tough for him. Ā After all this time and all the things they had said and done to each other in the past year, it is no wonder Robert is hesitating. It was them after all, messing things up again and again. Hurting each other and for each other, like it was the only thing they thrived on.
Not this time, though. He had spent too much time running away from how he actually felt. And he was not about to give up yet. It was his turn to fix things right this time. With a determined look on his face he turned around to face Robert. Robert looked at him and then quickly turned his gaze to the ground, as if he didn't want Aaron to spot the hesitation in his eyes. Unknowingly Aaron's grip on Robert's hand tightened.
He didn't say anything, he just waited for Robert to look up. He didn't. Instead he whispered, gaze still locked to the ground, "What if I mess up again?".
Aaron sighed and said "You won't. I wouldn't let ya".
"It's easy said that done innit?", Robert continued looking at the ground.
"Look at me", Aaron said. Robert turned his head to the side as if to avoid looking up.
Aaron insisted, voice all soft, "Hey, look up at me Robert". Robert slowly raised his head to meet Aaron's eyes. The questions still in his eyes.
Aaron felt like somebody has kicked his heart, he couldn't bear that Robert was still questioning himself despite telling what actually he thought of him in so many words earlier. For a second he contemplated saying something and then instead he reached his pocket and pulled out a paper. He gave the paper to Robert. Robert looked confused, but still took the paper in his hand.
"Open and read it", said Aaron. Ā As Robert started reading, his expressions changed from confusion to more confusion. He looked up at Aaron and then again at the paper.
"I was serious Robert, when I said to you earlier about what all things you have done for me. Before I came to talk to you, I wrote it all down, so I don't forget. And I am not going to let you tell me otherwise."
Robert looked like he couldn't believe what Aaron was saying. Then slowly he smiled and the light in his eyes came back.
He said, "I don't know what to say". "Then don't", replied Aaron cheekily.
A soft chuckle escaped Robert's mouth, teasingly he added "You know what? You are crazy-".
"in love", Aaron said interrupting Robert mid sentence.
"With me", said Robert flashing a satisfied smile.
Aaron came forward and touched his forehead to Roberts and said ,"Yes I am. Crazy in love with you, Robert".
Home
Aaron strolls in the Woolpack looking for Robert, whom he canāt find anywhere. Looks like he has to wait. They both had decided to meet up for a pint after work.
He sees Bob behind the bar, and decides to get a drink whilst he waits for his husband. He tries to catch Bobs attention and orders Ā "A pint please Bob, when you are ready" and settles himself on the bar stool. Bobs tuts back, "In a sec".
Aaron busies himself looking at his phone to see if there are any texts from Robert. Bob pulls a pint and slides the glass towards him. Aaron looks up and thanks him. āLooks like you are stood up?ā, asks Bob. Aaron frowns and says, āNo, I am not. Robert will be joining soon.ā āOh right Yeah. I am sorryā, he apologies. He stands awkwardly there looking at Aaron as if he wants to say something. āWhat?ā, Aaron offers. āNothing. Just the bar is kind of empty today. So I am not really busy. Am I?ā. Aaron is confused, what this has to do with him. He is never good at the small talk stuff people like to do. He just continues drinking his pint and hopes that Robert comes quickly. āI would have gone home you know, but itās not like I have a home anymore. Do I?ā. At this Aaron looks up, Bob looks very small and sad. He actually feels really bad for him, he has heard what happened with him and Laurel. He just awkwardly shifts in his seat and offers a meek smile in response. "Right Iāll leave you to it.", says Bob while turning around and starts cleaning the beer glasses. Aaron does not know how to react to this. He is not good at holding small conversations or offering words of comfort to, well of all people Bob. So he just continues siting there waiting for Robert to turn up.
But what Bob had said gets him thinking. How life can change 360 degrees in matter of minutes. There was a time it had happened to him too. He thought he had everything he ever wanted a home, a job, a husband and then everything was shattered the next minute. He shuddered at the thought of it.A few years ago he had no place he could call home. When Paddy took him in, he felt like it was his first real home where he felt secure. But that hadnāt lasted for long. Then there was the Woolpack when he lived with his mum. He had lots of good, bad and unforgettable memories here. He couldnāt deny that. But still it was more of his mums home than it ever was his. Then Liv had insisted how should they have a place of their own and he had gone and bought the Mill. It took a lot of time for them to get it done and live happily there. Well a lot of time and effort to be honest. But at the end they got there. Him, Robert , Liv and Seb. A weird but a family of their own. And they had built a home where they all could rely on each other and make memories to last for the life time. The thought of Seb made him feel weird in his stomach, like a longing feeling he couldnāt exactly put a finger on.
He was trying to fight off the tears that were threatening to spill out when he heard little babbling noises coming from the door, he quickly turned his head in the direction. And there he was, Robert holding Seb in his arms and smile on his face which reached his eyes. Quickly standing up he asked Robert āWhat is he doing here? Give him to meā. Sebās little face lit up when he saw Aaron and he literally jumped into Aaron arms. "Rebecca called up, said something about their boilers not working and the house being cold with no hot water. And Ā asked whether we could have him till its sorted. So I drove and picked him up. Wanted to surprise ya." "Well, I am surprised. Was really missing this little one here". "Did you miss me too mate?" he asked looking at Seb, who in a reply blew a raspberry making him and Robert laugh. As they were settling in a booth, he saw Liv entering the pub. āI saw Robert getting Seb out of the car outside, so came in to see him. Is he staying?ā. āYeah. For a couple of days.ā, answered Robert, shifting a little making some place for her to sit down. They decided to have the dinner in the pub and then head back home. At the thought of home Aaron smiled to himself, looking over at Robert and Liv playing with Seb, laughing and making silly faces at him. He felt his heart swell up with so much love he has never experienced before. He didnāt realise that he is silently staring at the three of them, just then as if on cue Robert looked up at him a knowing look on his face. Aaron nodded his head in response, as if saying I am alright and happy, to which Robert smiled back and went back to playing with Seb. Just then it clicks in his mind, does it really matter where they go back home? To the Mill? or to the Woolpack? or to some shitty B&B even? His home is right here in front of him. As long as he has got his family, he will always have a home.
Unpopular opinion but an adult still living at home with their birth family doesnāt owe you an explanation for why theyāre living there.Ā
It could be an illness/disability they have thatās not fully visible. Maybe they want to be around to care for their aging parents. Maybe the rents in their area are so disgustingly, astronomically high that it really doesnāt make sense for them to move out. Maybe they just donāt trust strangers enough to move into shared accommodation. No matter what it is, itās not your business.Ā

Harsh⦠but still shows Robert is still the first thing on his mind in all this and he probably spent the day thinking about what Robert would think of it all.

i dont remember the last time I saw trans representation in Indian media but this ad just made me feel so blessed
xx
what makes this add so precious to me is it actually stars a transwoman (activitist) Meera Singhania Rehani
[Image ID:
Advertising in India has, at snailās pace, been inching towards inclusivity. We are still eons away from seeing strong representation from the LGBTQ community in our communications. Therefore what makes Bhimaās ad special is the fact that it features a trans-woman and activist, Meera Singhania. It gets it narrative right, its casting is brilliant and the product fit is great.
