Just need to put in a note for anyone coming back to the show after absence, that Mary Gosgirk is fabulous, feisty, but achingly vulnerable; after coming out late in life she was the victim of financial scamming and revenge porn by the first woman Faye (*shakes fist*) that she was ever intimate with.
Then she fell hard for Suzy who helped her through the fallout and coming out in a bittersweet mutual thought it was (un)requited storyline that was stopped in its tracks after months of angst and longing stares by Suzy kissing her, admitting she has feelings for her too, and planning to break up with Vanessa, only to be killed (bastard fridgers) bloody immediately in the limo crash which meant Mary had to hide her grief for the first woman she fell in (reciprocal at least) love with, and then deal with the fallout when it came to light.
Her and Rhona had a complex relationship with years of distance, that they did a lot of work on, and are now mutually supportive, and she's fully integrated into the Dingle-Gosgirk family (working with Marlon to help out post his stroke, as well as give Mary some purpose post retirement, supporting April post stillbirth, helping care for Leo and Ivy etc), and she's on the precipice of finally living for her, and letting her curious, geek adjacent, inquisitive slash investigative self shine.
And I want her to be loved. But god, I also want her to be Desired. And to feel it because she's never felt it. Her experience with Faye, after working through her nerves and inexperience, and this goddamn beautiful woman in her seventies wearing lingerie, and maybe finally feeling like she could be wanted. And especially that she could feel want in return.
So like yes; give me a complex, messy relationship between two older women with a lot of life behind them, who also have a lot of skeletons and demons, and bad choices TM in the proverbial closets. Celia is absolutely fucking fascinating and I need that queenpin backstory that we are obviously getting (been hoping for it for weeks), so I am so here for it even if like now it's only ever based on a few seconds in the cafe type moments (spams Emmerdale social media with 'give me old women yuri cowards' petition). I will live on crumbs, but fuck do I want the whole damn sandwich.
But just be careful with my Mary, okay.
