On Broken Hearts And Healing (5/4/2022)
The best way to mend a broken heart,
I find, is time, effort, and some form of art.
Effort is difficult to measure,
But can be seen if you make space
In the schedule of your daily life
For the little things that give you pleasure,
Even the tiniest bit can suffice.
Art could be watching a film
That makes you laugh and distracts you,
Or makes you cry with the story
Of a main character who is sad too.
It's validating, to write your feelings down,
Paint or draw a scene with the backdrop
Of somewhere familiar or a distant town
That you may wish you were in.
All mediums can be effective,
As long as you have the desire to heal,
Getting so lost in the pain that you
Weigh yourself down with misdirected blame
And lose sight of what is true, what is real.
You may make the other party out as a villain,
We're all human, and we can't all be the hero.
If that's something you're not able to see,
You'll put yourself in the position to be a zero,
And sabotage any chance you have to win
