I work at a restaurant and nothing will ever beat the time this woman threw an absolute hissy fit at brunch because we ran out of home fries and all we had were french fries, she yelled at me, she demanded to speak to my manager, and when she’s in the middle of complaining, my manager just stopped her and went “hey do you want a hug?” and this woman went “what?” and my manager was like “you just seem super upset about the shape of these potatoes and I thought maybe you needed a hug” fucking hysterical, I got to watch a human blue screen in real life, absolutely the best way to shame someone for their nonsense I’ve ever seen

also while im venting about childhood trauma: i hope everyone who makes autistic kids doubt their reality breaks their foot immediately. I don't think we talk enough about the hell that is being an autistic child who knows damn well when something will be a bad sensory experience (specifically food in my case) but everyone in your life insists you don't know what you like and forces you into traumatizing situations "for your own good" because there's no way you could be able to trust your senses.

I hope this isn't derailing (OP let me know if you'd prefer I deleted), but I also wanted to give a shoutout to autistic kids who were made to either doubt their realities or feel inherently broken due to their strong preoccupations with fairness and justice. I took me decades to realise that I was always the one butting heads with inflexible authority figures as a child, not because something was wrong with me, but because something was wrong with them. Those people were bullies, and I just happened to be the only person who was routinely willing to stand up and say "no, that's not fair." So many autistic kids are labelled as troublemakers for refusing to play by the rules of authoritarian-minded adults, when really, they're just the only people mentally wired to always value fairness above the whims of rigid disciplinarians with fragile egos.
