I see a lot of different opinions on the Murderbot TV show but the only thing think of whenever I see/hear anything about it is-
“It looked very unrealistic and inaccurate, which was exactly what I liked.” - MB, Artificial Condition
They say it's still out there, roaming the unaffiliated zone, waiting to sideswipe the unwary traveler…
"GUESS."
I think murderbot would rage earlier in the emotion checks if it were clippy asking it
(picture done by @piratedllama bc I don't have the Photoshop ability)
Platform Decay spoiler/thought:
Murderbot's reaction to the sudden appearance of the rogue SecUnit is fascinating to me because I think a few books ago it would have been way more freaked out, possibly immediately overwhelmingly aggressive, especially with its vulnerable humans in tow. But in Platform Decay it's just like "Fuck off and put a proper shirt on, asshole" and gives it some of its hacking code like it's nbd??? Its opinion about [fellow] rogue units has changed so much.
PS: Yessssss construct revolution let's gooooo!!!!?????
naja, don’t give the secunit cigarettes
[platform decay posting]
oddly heartening for murderbot and this rando rogue secunit to make the construct equivalent of Angry Eye Contact across a bar brawl but still try to quickly shove life-saving files at each other. I will fucking kill you if you even breathe at my humans but here have some class solidarity whateverrrrrrr.
I’m feeling an emotion
ART?
I'm here, ART answered. Do you know what you are?
I'm Murderbot 2.0, I said, and then I remembered. Oh, right. This is weird.
Okay but it's weird for ART too, 2.0-you've just called yourself a name ART has never learned-not this book, not in the entirety of Artificial Condition does 1.0 ever tell ART its secret name.
You designating yourself as "Murderbot 2.0" means that for ART, the name "Murderbot" now has to be retroactively applied to 1.0!
ART is having a Bad Day already and has some very crucial irons in the fire to worry about right now, but I like to think that somewhere in its gazillions of processing space part of it is going what the FUCK while Amena distracts 2.0 for a while.
And it helped murderbot research what happened in Ganaka pit! ART would know the entire full context behind the name "murderbot" the first time it heard the name murderbot, in the same way murderbot's humans completely didn't know the context in the first book
I’m not sure what I fully believe on ART knowing and not knowing about the personal human translatable name. I love the canon so far that there’s a whole bot culture that humans partly can’t understand due to the differences in languages but also because that the main culture we’ve seen through MB is communication without humans in control finding out to keep themselves safe in cultures like Corporation Rim and even Preservation where they have been influenced by CR.
Injustice and slavery and whole systems that benefited from it existed before Corporation Rim was founded.
To me the scene was like, MB 2.0 immediately came online and talked to ART no different from 1.0 and was like ‘Fuck I really do have to perform this fucked up scenario of sending my best friend to die and to help it kill this iteration of itself to save my crew and I fucking hate that I have to choose between them because no matter how I much I care I don’t have a choice because this copy’s life is valued less than humans who can’t be replaced at all but it doesn’t make it any less horrible— maybe it’s worse. To know how undervalued bots lives are and truly experience it firsthand. FUCK. Pull it together. Maybe by some miracle it’s different for constructs.’
Hits it with a “I’m MB 2.0. Oh, right. This is weird.”
And it just kills ART right there. ‘For fucks sake that’s my best friend still utterly hating itself for what it was forced to be and ready to die for it. AGAIN. FUCKING SHIT. Amena please take the mic I need to privately lose my shit because 2.0 can’t know that because we don’t have time or a choice.’
Collects itself just in time for 2.0 to snark at it again. ART is having by far the worst day ever. And proceeds to arm 5 more pathfinders just for that.
get peer reviewed @polyhexian #I KEEP SAYING THIS#Art finally commits to yes this must be done#i have to create this life#this version of my friend that already values its own so little#i have to create it knowing that i am creating it to die#knowing that IT knows i know i am creating it to die#but finally accepting it has to do it and doing it#and the first fucking thing the motherfucker says is hey did you know your friend you just made a suicide bomb copy of is named murderbot#did you know it named itself after the thing it hates most about itself because it never wants to forget what it believes it really is#not just a murderer but a bot#did you know that in its internal monologue in its heart head and soul it never for a moment allows itself to forget#that it hates itself#and why it hates itself#and why it is never allowed to stop hating itself?#and art just has to be like [DEEP BREATH] excuse me. i need to run some diagnostics real quick
I like the detail that SecUnit has both a malfunctioning risk assessment module and a malfunctioning threat assessment module that are malfunctioning in opposite directions so that every little thing is a threat and nothing is high risk. That's "paranoid but with low impulse control" representation if I've ever seen it
I like to think that both of its modules work perfectly fine but its anxiety keeps convincing it that the assessments are wrong
Bill Skarsgard for my class studies.
🗣️ A SMILE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL🎈
I’m sure others have said this but I think ART being so open about suggesting violence and atrocities is more about its family being firmly anti-violent.
Peri knows very well in Rapport that they are not going to massacre the station by blowing it up. It can very safely vent and needle by saying “I think we should just nuke the station” bc Martyn and Seth are gonna be like “Cool it, Peri, you’re scaring the students.”
Unlike MB who never jokes about violence. When it’s considering violence it’s actually considering it.
While I do think that Peri meant it when it wanted to blow up the colony for MB, I think that’s was uniquely bc of its love for MB and you can tell it’s different bc it’s family responds differently.
Tbh Peri would probably learn very quickly it didn’t like making that suggestion so quickly if Seth just said “Great idea!” And then nuked the station can killed 1/2 the people there.
im sure those liquids arent all mb's.............
the thing about ART is that while it portrays itself as a multidisciplinary genius who can do anything, you must hold firm to the truth:
it’s a dumbass
no it can’t
A Special Day at the Preservation Station
I translated the short comic I drew last fall(with the help of a translator so please excuse any awkward phrasing).
