In what looks like news that hasn’t hit the Western lolita community yet (?), Taobao lolita stores [most likely of GLUC / Gothic & Lolita Union of China] are launching their own lolita fashion magazine: Girlism. Call it’s China’s answer to the Gothic & Lolita Bible.
The first edition is for pre-order at 80RMB** here, featuring Misako Aoki in collaboration with SurfaceSpell, Krad Lanrete, Dear Celine and Neverland Lolita. It looks like 100 pages of full colour, with 16 pages of splash/fashion spread photography, with specials like collaboration with Kera! staff and famous GL&B models I can’t name off the top of my head.

It… appears to be 80RMB and they say the excess will be refunded if necessary; but I want to be safer and say that it’s a deposit price of 80RMB. 80RMB is like… 3 Big Macs in China, and I don’t think independently-printed magazines run that cheap to be honest.]
When we sat down with model and Japan Lolita Association founder Misako Aoki, we talked about the propagation about lolita fashion worldwide. Not only does she feel that lolita fashion has more potential outside of Japan than within it, she thinks that overseas lolitas are more adventurous:
In Japan, the coordination is very conservative – single colour palettes, a very solid theme. Nothing too adventurous. Elsewhere, it seems that it’s a lot more adventurous; the colours are more vibrant. The coordination is something that a Japanese lolita wouldn’t even think about. In that sense, it actually works out – the coordinations are very unique outside of Japan.
