Summary: After a chaotic first date, you were convinced all hope was lost. Except when he called asking for a redo, a love unlike anything you had ever experienced blossomed from the ashes. Sometimes it was worth it to give something another chance.
Warnings: implied smut and cringey jokes lol
Author’s Note: This is probably the longest one-shot or part I’ve ever written! Thank you for reading, I love you. :D
The first date was a catastrophe.
You never believed you would meet someone over a shared love for Super Mario. After years and years of collecting figures, you saw the hobby as something far from attractive. When your coworker Taehyung discovered this secret obsession, he endlessly insisted you go on a date with his friend, who surprisingly had the same love.
You always ignored Taehyung’s pleas. It wasn’t that you were uninterested - someone having the same obsession as you is definitely intriguing - it was just that you didn’t exactly trust Taehyung’s type of people. To you, Taehyung was merely a co-worker. Although you got along fine with him, you didn’t see anything but a professional relationship with him. You knew he felt the opposite. Taehyung thought you and him were best friends. That’s why he felt no shame in waiting not-so-patiently for you to make a move.
Unknown to you at the time, he was begging Seokjin to ask you out as well. Months went by with the same, “I’ve never been more confident in anything else, please ask him out” and you never gave him the time. Eventually, Seokjin was the one who broke.
At the beginning of the date, everything was going fine. Seokjin took you somewhere casual, yet appropriate for dinner. Apart of you believed Taehyung picked out the location due to its overly romantic vibe, but you didn’t mind. For when you caught sight of him for the first time, you cursed yourself for not agreeing to this earlier. Seokjin was by far the most attractive guy you’ve ever been set up with.
The night started with polite conversations and his gentlemanly manners. He was dressed in a stylish shirt and jacket, formal but not too casual, like something someone would wear to one of those teenage award shows. After greeting you, he complimented your outfit, “pink is a good color on everyone, but on you, it’s especially exceptional.”
There was no denying his charm. A blush overtook your face instantly as you attempted to compliment him in return, “you’re exactly how everyone described you,”
“Handsome?” He smirked. You quickly learned he would always be first in line to compliment himself. All you could do was giggle. There was no denying his beauty.
“Taehyung told me about your Mario collection and how it rivals mine.” The perfect icebreaker. Seokjin’s voice was flirty, yet mischievous. Confidence oozed out of him. It wasn’t the type of confidence that absorbed everyone else’s, leaving them timid and scared. It was the kind of confidence that reflected in everyone around him. Today you were the lucky recipient.
“It doesn’t rival yours, it beats yours.” You smirked, edging him on for more. The night had already reached flirtatious banter and the waiter hadn’t even taken your order yet.
He smirked in return, “Are you sure of that, Princess Peach?”
“Oh, so I’m Princess Peach?” You scoffed, refusing to admit you actually really liked the nickname.
“From what I can tell, you’re more of a Luigi.”
Seokjin gasped dramatically, “how dare you. Luigi is fearful and I am far from fearful."
"Then why did it take you so long to ask me out?"
"I think you know why, although I’m wishing I hadn’t waited so long.” Just like you.
If the night went just like you hoped, the intense figurine competition would be fueled by strong sexual tension, leading the vicious battle to transform into a rough and hot make-out session.
Except, reality never reflects daydreams.
Everything was going smoothly until a familiar face showed up. The lovely (nosy) Taehyung “coincidently” was at the restaurant that night. In his mind, it was a good idea to check if the date was going well every five or seven minutes.
He swayed in, ‘casually’ walking past your table, then slipped a nonchalant “oh! You guys are having your date here?”
The mood was gone just at the opening of Taehyung’s mouth. “Uh yeah… as much as I would like to take credit, you’re the one who picked this place.” Seokjin was practically rolling his eyes.
“Oh, Right!! It must have slipped past me.” It was like Taehyung wasn’t even trying to hide his lies.
“Sure it did…” You mumbled into your drink, looking off into the distance.
“Since I’m here,” Taehyung swooped into the seat next to Seokjin, pushing Seokjin over. “How’s the date going??”
You and Seokjin awkwardly glanced at each other and then simultaneously stumbled out, “Good!”
Taehyung ate it up. “Do you think each other is cute? Oh, I bet you do…” He smirked. You really wanted to punch the smirk off his face. You only glared in response. You tried to make it obvious so he’d understand his presence wasn’t welcomed.
“Taehyung,” Seokjin mumbled into his drink - much like you did earlier.
Taehyung wasn’t picking out any of the signs. He only continued the interrogation, “Don’t forget to ask about each other’s favorite food! After all, you are eating… It’s a very important question.”
The only solution was to ignore him - or so that’s what you thought. Watching the table to your right couldn’t even help. The family even had five children, two of them wrestling over a piece of meat, one sobbing over their mom not letting them have diet coke, the mom failing at consoling her kid, and the last two jumping on their seats - until they’d hit their head on the back of the seat and cry (then do it again). Not even that could distract you from your growing annoyance.
You didn’t know what he was saying, as your eyes remained on the family of anarchy, but the sound of his voice heightened your irritation. You don’t think he even noticed you weren’t giving him your full attention. Occasionally, you’d hear him say something like, “Are you liking each other? I know you do…” or “If you want any recommendations to go after, I can always give you some places Y/N.” Taehyung was ruining the date trying to 'help’ it.
Luckily, you weren’t the only one thinking this, “Thanks but we don’t need your help.” Seokjin sat up straight and said honestly.
“Oh.” Taehyung straightened his posture uncomfortably, “I’ll leave you alone then.” He faked a smile then dragged his feet away.
That doesn’t mean he was finished. Seokjin and you made an effort to resume the date as if they hadn’t been interrupted. It was going fine until Taehyung walked by insisting he was simply “going to the bathroom.”
At first, you believed him. Until he did it six more times throughout the night.
He always had the worst timing. Once conversation eased into something flirtatious, Taehyung’s face would pop up unannounced (and unwelcomed) in your peripheral vision. Each time enlarged a headache that he started. It was impossible to try to get to know him knowing Taehyung could waltz by any minute. Both you and Seokjin were exhausted by him, ruining the evening.
After the sixth time of Taehyung’s charade, you had enough.
“Don’t mind me! Enjoy your date! I’m just going to the bathroom!” He whispered as he walked past, but as he did, you popped off your seat and in front of him, blocking his path. “No, you’re not. You’re coming with me.” You snatched his wrist and dragged him out of the building. Despite your fuming anger, Taehyung was only laughing.
The wind blew an icy breeze but you felt none of it. Heat was steaming off of you as you prepared your shot. You didn’t stand by to hear his excuses, “What the hell Taehyung! Stop! Go home!”
“I’m not doing anything wrong!”
“Yes! You are! You are doing everything wrong!
"I’m only trying to help.”
“Your help is unnecessary and unhelpful. You are only ruining everything. It was going fine until you got here.”
“I need to at least pay for my meal.”
“I’ll pay for it. Just leave.”
“Wow, alright, I get it.”
A small part of you regretted it, but at least you could go back to flirting with Seokjin about his Mario collection in peace.
Only if that actually happened. You didn’t want Taehyung’s antics to cause the handsome Seokjin to slip away from you. But the rest of the night convinced you that you were the only one to do that.
When you sat back down, you brushed off any anger and replaced it with a charismatic smile. “Is he gone?” Seokjin smiled back, easing your tense shoulders.
“Hopefully. I don’t think we will have to worry about him for the rest of the night.” You said.
The smile was washed away almost immediately when the waiter came back, knocked into the corner of your chair, and accidentally spilled the drinks all over you. The pink outfit Seokjin complimented earlier was now soaked with water, a mysterious Italian wine, and what you guessed by the smell to be Coca-Cola.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry!!” The waitress uttered, desperately trying to redeem herself. She reached for a nearby towel as Seokjin hurried over to help. The chaotic of soaking clothes to the embarrassing attention only made you want to scream.
“No, No, get off me” You knew the minute the words left your mouth they were too harsh. They only wanted to help you. Except in the moment, you didn’t care about that. All you wanted was to hide. In a panic, you rudely pushed Seokjin away and ran to the bathroom.
You can’t remember how long you were in there, but by the time you finally left Seokjin was gone.
The car ride home was miserable. Your tears were relentless as you sobbed into your steering wheel. Seokjin was the cutest guy you’d seen in a long time and everything went up in humiliating flames. Your journal entry that night was scattered with despair.
“Maybe my love life really is hopeless….”
The second date was a surprise.
You didn’t expect him to call you. You weren’t expecting anything at all. All signs pointed to tragedy. You already prepped yourself for the next few nights consisting of you whining into an ice cream carton, but he twisted up the story. The level of shock you watched his name light up your cell phone was unreal.
“Hello?” Your words were hesitant, almost fearful. No one would call after the date - you wouldn’t if you were in his place!
“Hello Y/N!” He spoke your name so sweetly that all the doubt washed away. His tone was far from what you expected.
Maybe you expected him to shout something hurtful, or even express how he “wasn’t feeling it”, but that wasn’t what you got.
“I know last night wasn’t ideal, so I was hoping we could try that again. No irritating friends, no unfortunate spills, just you and me! I was thinking ice cream, what do you think?”
A second chance. Maybe your love life wasn’t hopeless. If someone that cute was going to act like this after that kind of date, then you knew you wanted to make something with him. In that moment, you became determined to make him yours and for you to become his. “I think that’s a wonderful idea.” You weren’t going to cry into ice cream cartons, you were going to share one with him.
He picked up at one in the afternoon the next day. The sun was still in the center of the sky and the almost-summer heat was perfect. If the weather was a predictor of how the date was going to go, the second date was going to be perfect.
The moment he saw you he didn’t hold back from giving a compliment, “Your hair looks really good today.” You were going to tell him his did as well, but he just had to go ruin the moment, “Much better than the last time I saw you.” You scoffed but it quickly melted into a giggle (if that was even possible).
Seokjin drove you to an adorable, hidden ice cream shop. Although from the street it was barely visible, there was already a line at the entrance. Several five-year-olds stood on the tips of their toes to peek at the sparkling swirls of chocolate and vanilla. The line was long but the two of you patiently waited your turn.
“I have to ask, did Taehyung force you to ask me out again?” You weren’t going to ask the question, but it was the only thing you could think of. Once it came out of your mouth, you were impatiently nervous for the response.
“Actually, no.” Seokjin chuckled, “I haven’t seen him since that night.” It had been three days since the disastrous date.
“Me neither. He knows I’m mad at him.” You said, relieved that he wasn’t upset over your question.
“Me too.” He said, paused a moment then continued, “I was nervous he ruining my chance with you.”
What a relief, you thought. “I was worried he was ruining my chance with you!” You marveled. You and Seokjin were on the same page. Maybe the relationship wasn’t doomed…
Seokjin gorgeously smiled softly, “We had the same worry,”
His smile made you nervous. He was too beautiful. To push away your nerves, to blurted out another thing you didn’t want to say but was on your mind, “I’m sorry about when the drinks spilled on me. I was really rude.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m sorry for leaving.” He apologized, still smiling.
That cursed smile. All you could do was embrace it. “Don’t worry about it. This is a fresh start, right?”
“Right! Let’s pretend all of that didn’t happen.”
The line hadn’t shortened at all. The group of five-year-olds were still finalizing their ice cream decisions. One girl in black piggy-tails was in the process of asking to sample all twelve flavors.
Watching her, Seokjin leaned in into you, “the girl is smart. Free ice cream.”
“Only if I could get away with that.” You gasped, “maybe I could!”
“Bring our your inner indecisive little girl.”
“Easy. That’s how I am when I’m deciding my outfits on the sims.”
Seokjin gasped, “Oh my god. Me too.”
“Twins!” You raised your hand for high five and he gleefully accepted.
Before you got your chance to be a little kid, you still had to wait for the children to be children. As you waited, one of you would make a comment on the children’s cute behavior or their bothersome indecisiveness. “The choice of 12 flavors is the hardest decision they’ve ever had to make in their small lives,” you joked.
“Don’t invalidate their struggle,” Seokjin said with a serious expression.
Your eye caught on to the shoes of the girl in front of you. They were silver, worn out, and covered in shiny sparkles. You sighed, “At least she has sparkly shoes.”
“I want them!” Seokjin announced, looking your way.
You leaned in and whispered, “Then steal them.”
He leaned in as well and whispered, “Okay, create a diversion then when no one is looking snatch them.”
“You can trust me to get them. I am…” He blew a dramatic kiss to the air, “talented!” He finished off his bold, grand gesture with patiently for you to either agree or disagree. To his pleasure, you agreed.
The sparkly shoe heist was a bit dramatic, but it passed the time. By the time you had it to the front of the line and the children were gone, you had a fully concocted plan.
Except, once it was your turn to order, you felt like the child. You had been so busy making small comments to Seokjin that you forgot about choosing a flavor. In the end, you simply chose mango while Seokjin chose a brownie caramel and fudge flavor.
You found a booth in the corner, private enough to not be bothered but not enough to be forgotten about by the employees. The conversations started light but eventually found its way into deeper territory. You never expected to divulge such personal topics on a second date, except, everything came out so naturally with him. It never felt like you were oversharing because he would share just as much. It never felt like he didn’t want to hear it because he was so reassuring.
When he asked you see you again, you were relieved.
The sixth date was magical
Everything between the two of you had been going smoothly. Actually, more than smoothly if that was even possible. You were absorbed into a blissful state of a blooming romance. Out of the worlds many distractions, he was the only one you saw - (except for Taehyung inserting himself into the scenario to brag about how he was right in setting up the relationship.)
Although, there was one thing missing from the enchantment - the first kiss. But, that was your fault. On all the past dates, you rejected his kiss.
The first time was when he surprised you with flowers at work. With a blush on your cheeks and the envy of all your other coworkers, Seokjin leaned in for the first kiss. But with the awkwardness of an office smooch, it didn’t go as planned. You were fully ready and willing to go at it, but once you got close, you knocked into the corner of your desk and his lips found the flowers instead. He kept his face in the flowers as he laughed in embarrassment (and to hide his red face). You burst into laughter slipping endless amount of teases towards him. Seokjin just buried his face further into flowers as you gave him no peace. Your uncontrollable giggles made it hard to resist doing it again.
Next time, it was on purpose. After the fourth date, he finished the night by taking you home. He took you to the doorstep and you felt like a sixteen-year-old girl in a coming-of-age movie after her first date. You had to double take to remind yourself that you were older and your family wasn’t hiding through the curtains. Seokjin had it all planned in his head and you knew it. That’s why you couldn’t resist in ruining it. Before you went inside, he took your hand and attempted to slide in at the perfect moment. It would’ve been perfect if you hadn’t stepped back to let him kiss the air.
To avoid embarrassment, he slid into a signature air kiss. He winked, “you wish that was for you.”
“Oh do I?” You teased, stepping closer to him again.
The poor boy awkwardly tried again, but you kissed his cheek, skipped inside, and laughed, “Better luck next time!”
This only left him determined to try again. He was perfectly aware that you were teasing him as you ensure that with your shy smiles. He had to know that you weren’t going to let him give you some lazy thoughtless peck. He was going to have to earn that kiss. Someone as charming as him was probably used to getting those kisses so easily, so you decided you were going to make him work for it.
On the sixth date, you finally let him. After multiple attempts in between, you had enough with his suffering and decided to ease the burden. Seokjin had become so desperate that he would try to catch you off guard. Each time you would still manage to evade. So instead of waiting for him to be successful, you kissed him.
That day, it happened to be your birthday. On the fourth date, you let the date slip out and once it was said, you knew Seokjin was concocting a grand plan for the evening. Nothing you could’ve predicted would match what actually happened.
There wasn’t a grandiose celebration with you swimming in the luxury of dozens of expensive gifts. The magic of the night was caused by a slippery, vibrant blue birthday cake.
When you got home from a busy day of work, you found Seokjin neatly sitting on your couch in front of an enormous cake. “Happy Birthday!!” Seokjin skipped to you and wrapped you in an overpowering hug. The room filled with your giggles as you fought your way out and he fought to keep you tight. When you were finally released, the cake caught your attention. It had four layers of sloppy frosting, making each tier on the brink of sliding off. Seokjin repeatedly stepped in front of it as if to distract you. “I didn’t have enough time to let it cool before I frosted it…” He spoke reluctantly, scratching his head in awkwardness.
To his surprise, you were elated, “I love it. It’s so cute.” You beamed at the cake and dove in without hesitation. You didn’t wait for him to sing to you or for him to properly cut you a piece. Your fork dug in before Seokjin could breathe. The cake was fruity, but it was difficult to discern exactly what fruits were inside. It tasted like Seokjin grabbed a random array of a fruit, smashed them all together, then baked it.
“I-I was very short on time,” His excuse was never-ending, but you didn’t care. You loved it anyway, “It has personality. It’s special.” The thought of him spending the time to bake you a four-tiered cake in the first place sent your heart racing.
“I was going to get a clown, but I already have one in you.” He eyed you and the way your lips started turning blue from the frosting.
“How rude!” Although, he was right. You had frosting all over your face and looked silly.
“Do you know why cannibals don’t eat clowns?”
You were oblivious with your mind mostly on the cake. You should’ve seen it coming, “No, why?” You asked, taking another bite of cake.
“Because they taste funny.”
“OHhhhHHHHhhhh” you groaned at his corny joke before finishing with, “much like your cake.”
He had stolen your heart and there was no avoiding it. All you wanted was to kiss him, but you were having too much fun messing with him. Watching him watch you demolish his cake was the perfect time in your book. Seokjin sat, unknowingly, and laughed at the frosting turning your lips blue.
That’s when you decided to make his blue too. Catching him off guard, and with blue frosting covering your lips, you turned to him and kissed him far from gently. It was sweet, rough, and delicious. When you let go, a cursed giggle left you as his eyes were ten sizes too large and the frosting gave him an adorable mustache.
“Come here, let me kiss that off.” you whispered, pulling him into another kiss. It was messy and, to be honest, kind of gross. Neither of you minded but both knew it was strange. Both of you laughed in between kisses, almost preventing more. His hands were in your hair, pushing it back, while yours were wrapped around his torso, making his grey T-shirt blue.
But that wasn’t enough. You weren’t finished with your games. One minute your hand was traveling down his neck and next minute it held a handful of cake.
The poor boy was completely unaware. He was about to turn your next blue when you suddenly threw a ton of cake on his back. You cackled as you rubbed the cake into his back and he taunted you with his eyes to continue, or else. While maintaining an evil eye contact, he planned his revenge.
It wasn’t hard to figure out what he had planned. Seokjin lunged for the cake, and you did too. A chorus of laughter ran throughout your place as the two of you wrestled for the cake. “Seokjin, please, my poor carpet!” It was difficult to be serious with your unbreakable smile. Even though it was your birthday, you weren’t going to win this fight. The cake was already in the trajectory of your chest - and that is where it landed. You playfully screamed and immediately started to throw the cake back at him. It was turning into a full-blown food fight.
Everything was now the childish shade of blue. From that night onward it became your “couple color.”
Soon enough, his lips were back on yours. Surrounded by overly-dyed cake and frosting, both of you kissed and kissed and kissed. By midnight, the floor became blue, the walls too, your hair, his neck, your sheets.
The tenth was better than the eighth
You and Seokjin were far from the perfect couple. It wasn’t all blissful romance. He didn’t show up at your door every weekend with a bouquet of flowers. You weren’t always reasonable in times of argument. On one particular date, the eighth date to be exact, the first real fight broke out. There had been small disagreements or frustrations in the past, but nothing like this. You swore he was being “completely unreasonable” while he promised you were being “overdramatic” (looking at it now, both of you were correct.)
The details are relevant, but it left you two feeling strained. Like the two of you were tied together with a rope about to snap. You were convinced he was going to end everything the next time you saw each other.
Except, the ninth date occurred and nothing of that sort happened. You were convinced it was because he was waiting for you to do it. Neither of you property talked about the fight either, only increasing the unwelcome tension.
Soon, you had enough. It was you who showed up on his doorstep with a bouquet of roses. Your eyes were brimming with tears in fear he would reject you, “I’m s-sorry… can you forgive me?”
Seokjin was quick to forgive you. He swept you up into his arms and whispered, “of course. I won’t let you go that easily.” That was all you needed to feel alright again.
After that incident, everything had become rather casual with no more formal dates. Quick coffee meetups or long talks on the phone snuck their way into the weekdays. Nothing in the past weeks could be considered a date. Even when you visited each other’s places, it always consisted of the following: finding yourself at his place in the afternoon and by the night, your mouth refused to leave his. Ever since you let him touch you like that, it was the only thing either of you wanted to do. Before you knew it, it had been two months since the last official date.
One weekend, Seokjin begged for a formal date since it had been too long. Both of you could barely even remember the last one. He didn’t have to plead for too long as you were seeking one as well.
To make up for it, and how the last two formal ones were less than desirable, you decided to surprise you.
“The zoo? You want to go to the zoo?” He was less than excited. You handed him the tickets in a shiny silver envelope. You felt like a small child bouncing around with excitement, while he just stood there with one eyebrow raised. Naturally, he couldn’t help but tease you about it.
You didn’t care that he looked disinterested at that idea, “You were saying yesterday you’ve never been to the zoo!” you beamed. You were going to get him excited about going to the zoo if it was the last thing you ever did.
“I think I get enough of a zoo with your personality.”
You winked and leaned in, “Because I’m an animal in bed?”
He pushed you away, “We both know, that I’m the animal, not you.”
“I’ll prove it to you” He took your hand and started leading you into the other room. A jumble of giggles left you as you tried to break free, “Shush, I’d rather go to the zoo instead of seeing that. Don’t embarrass yourself.” You teased.
Ignoring his initial offense, he took your hand and lead you out the door, “Fine. Let’s go to the zoo." Victory.
To his surprise, the day was really fun. That was until your boyfriend began telling jokes.
You were convinced Seokjin read a joke book before you arrived because the day was full of an endless stream of the corniest puns and cheesiest gags.
“What do you call a sleeping dinosaur?
You were so naive in the beginning. You really believed he would tell one joke and move on. How ignorant you were.
“What did one tomato say to the other tomato during a race?”
He wasn’t going to stop. Your groans only gave him power. Your agony gave him the strength to continue on. He continued to laugh at his own jokes and tell more, no matter what our response was. It only got worse from there.
“What do you call a sleepwalking nun?”
“Alright, where’s the exit? I want to go home.”
He laughed excessively, then calmed down. The two of you walked around, staring down some penguins, checking out a bear, and soon enough you thought the jokes were finished. Again, you were so innocent. He was only waiting for the perfect time - when you least expected it.
“What’s brown and sticky?”
By the end of the day, all you could do was endure them. Nothing you could say would make them stop. No matter how much you ignored him or protested, they were going to continue. You tried your hardest to enjoy admiring the elephants and ignore whiny children while surviving another badly executed joke.
“What do you call a seagull that flies over a baby?”
It was worse when strangers would overhear and encourage him.
“HAHAHA GOOD ONE!” a stranger in a red polo called out.
“Thank you!” Once Seokjin spoke, you knew what was coming. As his hand rose to his lips, you prepared by already hiding your face in embarrassment. Seokjin raised his hand and sent the stranger one of his famous air kisses
The stranger got so flustered, he just stumbled out a few “oh”s then waddled away. Seokjin had that kind of power over people.
Eventually, he started running out of ideas. You knew you’d be free soon.
“What did the ocean say to the shore?”
“Nothing. It just waved.”
“I’ve already heard that one before. You’ll have to try a little harder next time.”
Finally, luck was on your side. You had made your way around the entire zoo and now it was time to go home. You dragged him to the zoo and he made you suffer through his jokes. I guess you were even. At least everything was back to normal.
The fourteenth became the usual
[Text from Seokjin. 3:21 P.M.] "I know it’s the fourteenth date, but just come over and we can watch a movie.”
Earlier that day, the two of you planned to meet up for a date. He promised to think of what to do then get back to you.
[Text from Y/N. 3:22 P.M] “Are you counting?”
You watched the “…” bubble pop up then disappear repeatedly.
[Text from Seokjin. 3:25 P.M] “No….”
You laughed aloud.
[Text from Y/N. 3:26 P.M] “I think it’s cute.”
[Text from Seokjin. 3:26 P.M] “Then yes. I am counting.” You could almost hear him say it. The urgency. The cuteness of it all.
[Text from Y/N. 3:28 P.M] “If I’m just coming over for a movie then it doesn’t have to count as a date.”
[Text from Seokjin. 3:29 P.M] “It’s going to be a date! I’ll make it one! Promise!”
He did. Not only did Seokjin choose a movie, he purchased a vast array of snacks. Candies, treats, ice creams, chips, drinks - he had everything. When you arrived, blankets and pillows were piled on the floor. The lights were dimmed, all the treats perfectly aligned in front of the television, and the movie ready to hit play. There was an intense aroma of salt and artificial flavoring surrounding the scene, but it was inviting.
The moment you arrived, Seokjin skipped over to you and pulled you into his arms. His arms were laced around your hips and you did the same with him. “Get ready for a snuggle cuddle puddle!” He cheered, pulling you in closer.
You raised your eyebrows, “Snuggle Cuddle puddle?”
He wasn’t satisfied with you judgmental tone of voice, “Yes, we will snuggle up and cuddle in the puddle of blankets.”
You blushed at silly play, “Stop…” his cheerfulness never failed to brighten you up.
He leaned in for a whisper, “Never.”
The 'Snuggle Cuddle Puddle’ was everything you hoped it would be. It was like laying on a soft dreamy cloud, tangled up with your angel lover. You felt so sick after eating all the treats but it was worth it.
After the successful movie date night, it happened again. And again. And again. Eventually, date nights were expected to include a movie, blankets, and an endless amount of snacks. You didn’t mind and neither did he. Both of you began to enjoy the routine.
You became accustomed to the way you fit in his arms and how the couch molded with your body. The world was warm and soothing when you were snuggled up in his arms. His voice comforted your veins. After a long day, your body ached for his embrace.
The majority of the time you watched movies, but sometimes there were exceptions. Occasionally, Seokjin was desperate for a reality or variety show. If one of those were chosen, it usually ended up with the two of you binging them for the next week.
Every time, although you both insisted you were watching, the two of you always talked over it. Conversations would range from snarky comments about what you were watching to the latest celebrity gossip. “Did you hear about Namjoon’s new mixtape? I’m such a big fan….”
Seokjin wasn’t a fan of that kind of talk. It only made him jealous. “Ah, let’s not talk about him anymore.” He’d mumble to himself, sinking into his seat.
“Oh don’t be like that! I’m dating you!”
You found tranquility in relaxing on the couch, snuggled up in his broad shoulders. His fingers could always find their way into your hair, running through your hair and playing with the ends.
The days were hectic but the nights were soothing when you were with him.
Monday was as simple and sweet
Faintly in the distance, an 8-bit version of the Super Mario theme played. You clutched your bubble tea with both hands as it was about to spill over from your fit of laughter. Seokjin was doing everything in his power to make you laugh - and succeeding. From an endless amount of jokes (he stole from online forms) to purposing losing different arcade games in the most outrageous fashions. You bought your bubble tea nearly thirty minutes ago but you had barely drunk any of it.
“Stop being so cute.” You cutely whined, watching him battle a crane to win you a random plushie.
“Can’t do that. I can’t help that I’m naturally this way.” His eyes were focused solely on the crane but his perfect smile was all for you.
You breathed a laugh, “Can you be humble for one second?”
“What do you think?” He winked over at you just as the crane descended on a fluffy baby pink bunny plushie. To no surprise, the crane wrapped itself around the bunny, lifted it in the air, and dropped it for your reward.
Seokjin took the bunny and held it in the air. He was smiling from ear to ear, looking extremely proud of himself. It was impossible not to smile back. The effortlessly angelic aura that erupted from his joy was undeniable. You gave no effort to fight back your giggles as he skipped towards you. When in front of you, he bowed, and held out the bunny, and spoke, “My gift to you, my princess peach.”
He was too charming for your own good. You were sure that your blush was visible even at a far distance. You took the bunny gratefully, bowing in acceptance, “Thank you, my prince.” You snuggled up with the bunny, letting the soft fur brush your cheeks.
“I wish I was that bunny right now.” He spoke loudly, watching you. You blushed and skipped towards him, “then come here, my prince.” He pulled you into his embrace and brushed his nose against yours.
Feeling that he was just about to kiss you, you mischievously slipped the bunny up in between your faces. You were never finished tricking him into missing your mouth. You jumped back as Seokjin went in for the kiss and found himself met with something fluffy and pink.
Mixed with a playful smile, with eyes shot open, “Not again…”
You were standing with a fake pout on your lips, “I see how it is. Found yourself a new girlfriend?” You faked a whine and spun around to continue your act. Folding your arms, you waited for him.
“Why are you like this?” He teased, coming back you and pulling you into a back hug. You laughed aloud as he picked you up and you tossed in the air momentarily.
The two of you were oblivious to your surroundings. Other patrons of the arcade stood at their various machines, giving you two an evil side-eye. One pair of friends whispered their annoyance about your lovey-dovey actions. The nearest employee only became saddened watching you and Seokjin. He rested his head in his hands, thinking of his own loneliness and wished he could be as happy as the two of you were.
Seokjin finally got that kiss he wanted earlier. You planted one straight on him once he let you go. Your hands cupped his face and took him in without any hesitation. It was hard to kiss as both of your smiles refused to drop for the moment.
Last night was the highlight of them all
It was half past midnight. The neighborhood street lights illuminated the streets along with the glow of moonlight. Quiet streets and dusty pavement led the way as you and Seokjin held hands, walking down the road. Neither of you had any particular goal, but that wasn’t the purpose of the night. A warm summer night breeze swallowed the midnight cold. The only thing you could hear was the harmony of your and Seokjin’s breathing and buzz of the street lights. It was serene.
Earlier, Seokjin took your hand sweetly asked, “can we go walk around outside?” It was his tone that made you agree. You and him were curled up in your bed, doing nothing in particular. His voice was soft, yet concerned when he asked. You knew something was on his mind.
Over the past few weeks, you knew something was bothering him. When you were kissing, he wasn’t lost in the moment like he normally was. When you were talking about something in the future, he’d become awkward and avoid talking about it. It was like he was so lost in his head that the bright Seokjin was getting left behind.
You asked him about it repeatedly, but it only said “I’ll tell you later” but it felt like “later” was never going to come. When he pulled you outside, you were hoping it was finally time.
In the back of your head, you worried he felt something wrong with the relationship. Except, when you skipped outside, you felt hopeful that it was the opposite.
His fingers curled around yours and your arms swayed in the content silence. Up the road was a small park. The slides were empty and the swing set was open. It lifeless, yet it wasn’t haunting. There was peace in the absence. “Let’s sit here,” Seokjin said pointing to a bench. You nodded and sat there with him.
Your knees bounced up and down in anticipation. Hearing “Let’s talk” from your significant other was never ideal.
“So, I’ve been thinking a lot lately.” He began, but you interrupted, “I’ve noticed.”
He ignored your comment and continued, “About us.”
Your heart dropped. “Oh…”
But just as the worry entered your veins, he swept them away with a smile, “Don’t worry,” He laughed, “I’m not breaking up with you.”
“Oh!” You sighed a breath of relief. It felt like all the air you had been holding in for weeks was finally released. “G-Good!” you stuttered, "Y-You scared me… I don’t know what I’d do without you anymore.“
"Me neither… and that’s why I was thinking.” He was so serious. Seokjin wasn’t usually this serious. Typically, he overlayed anything serious with multiple jokes or laughs to lessen the gravity. There wasn’t any of that today. Seokjin’s lips were flat as he spoke and his eyes were solemn.
“…about?” You urged him to continue. His thoughtful attitude brought back the anxiety.
Unexpectedly, Seokjin stood up and walked in front of you. You watched him carefully and soon enough he bent down in front of you. “What are you doing?” You smiled. You had a feeling you knew.
His stunning smile was back, “I love you.” Seokjin was uncommonly shy. His cheeks faded into an unseen rose color and his head was bent low. Adrenaline rushed through you, making your palms sweaty. He stole your clammy hands and continued, “I knew the moment I saw you on that pitiful date, I never wanted to let you go. The moments together are the best I’ve ever had.”
“I don’t know where you are going with this…”
His expression remained the same, but his words altered, “You are…” He wrinkled his eyebrows, “unusual.”
Surprised, you choked out a laugh, “H-HA WHAT!!” but your smile was still uncontrollably painted on your face. “What does that mean?” You covered your smile with your free hand as he tightened his hold on the other.
“You refused to kiss me in the beginning and sometimes you still do,” He explained. You giggled, making a mental note to dodge his lips next time.
“You actually like my jokes most of the time,” His jokes were infamous but you always tried to be a supporter. “HA! I wouldn’t say that’s true…” He knew you were faking it most of the time.
Seokjin shyly hid his face, “Shhh… let me continue.”
“Sorry…” Your smile was still present, it wasn’t fading anytime soon.
He rose his head back up and made direct eye contact with you. Oh here it comes, you thought to yourself, now straightening your posture for the big words. “Even with those flaws, they are all the reasons why I love you. Who knew Taehyung would actually be right for once!”
“He’s going to brag about this for the rest of his life.”
“He sure is and you want to know why?” His charm and confidence radiated off as if there was a glow surrounding him.
“Why?” You knew exactly why.
“Let’s get married, Y/N. Will you marry me?”
Even with those words, you couldn’t resist your natural inclination, “Um…………………………..” you pretended to think about it long and hard. It was difficult to 'act serious’ when your smile refused to leave.
He lowered his head, “Y/N please.” He was too used to this, even at times like this.
Euphoria, elation, joy was all emotions you felt. You always wanted to get married (you hinted that enough to Seokjin) and it felt like a dream was finally coming true. He raised up from the ground and you flung into his embrace. A trail of kisses make their way onto his cheeks and eventually onto his lips. You knew expected to find someone with a Mario collection and someone who would stay even after a tragic date. You loved him and you knew you’d love him forever.
