Hi! I have been in fandom since ~2011 (specifically the SPN fandom), and I have been seriously selfshipping and OCshipping since 2018. I mostly reblog things, but I do try to post my own art or F/O imagines from time to time. I am an artist and occasional writer. I LOVE talking to people who ship from the same media! Especially others who have Star Wars F/Os or ship with my platonic F/Os! Please feel free to shoot me an ask or pm and gush about your F/Os! btw selfshippers idk if you guys know about ambient-mixer but it's a great way to set up some background noise & pretend you are spending downtime with your f/o. there's a really easy search function to look up any pre-existing mixes that might exist related to your f/o if you want, which are sorted by category (movie/show/game/etc.), or you can make your own.

you can upload your own samples, add crossfades, control the volume of each channel, & even set each sample to specific left & right channels if you want a more immersive experience. it's honestly a great site that i've been using for years & i'm surprised more people don't mention it.

Also I am begging people that aren't impacted by orientalism to actually listen to the people who are about why we may not like the term yume. People will come up with every single thing they can to try to justify their use of the term and I'm sorry, but you should maybe stop and think about why it is that you see no issue with it when Asian people have repeatedly explained what the issue with the explosion in popularity of the term yume specifically is. Yume is a specific subculture online but it's an Asian subculture, and a lot of non-Asians have co-opted that while misusing terms related to it. Nobody is going to force you at gun point to stop using the term, but please consider why it is that you might immediately get defensive about your use of it when others have talked about how its popularity is a product of cultural appropriation

There's this user called yumeshipracist, who, while has a good point of knowing that using the term yumeship with reckless abandon is orientalist, is also just going around harrassing other users who use the term. And I can't expect people on the internet to have any nuance, especially when they're already defensive of their use of the term.

I never really use the term(the only times I really use it are out of desperation for my animations to be seen, but I try not to use it), but that isn't going about things the right way, good lord. There's a way to tell people "hey this isn't cool" while being respectful about it.

I've found that people are amazing at coming up with excuses when you ask for one simple thing. Even when you're spelling out what you actually mean. You can say time and time again and a new excuse will pop up like wack a mole

Yeah, it genuinely feels like the selfship tags are dead when it comes to engagement at this point. If I learned enough(and had time to in-between being forced to take a summer job)I would probably make a video essay on it, but I'd probably just get called a snowflake.

Checking my posts(elsewhere, anyways), I've only used the yumeship tag like. maybe 6-ish times, and I only did it out of sheer desperation for my animations to get noticed because of how long they specifically took me.

Aside from it being orientalist, "yumeshipper" has never really. felt right as a label for what I do? Like, being in a relationship isn't a dream of mine(I could never navigate one), but I like to imagine mySELF in one, if that makes sense.
