Christine Daae isn’t the damsel in distress type character, she’s the character that’s been strong for way too long and needs a shoulder to lean on. Raoul isn’t an arrogant person, he’s a person who believes too much that he can save christine because of how ready he is to throw his life for her.

He might be the Vicomte de Chagny, but as soon as he leaves the room it's just Raoul to everyone. That is no vicomte yet, that's a boy fumbling all his social interactions

I'm definitely stirring the pot but EVERY ship in POTO is toxic. Erik never let Christine love him of her own choice. Raoul had a save the apparent damsel in distress and he never tried to find her from childhood to adulthood where he never would have seen her until she performed Meg knew something was wrong and tried to help out but it wasn't enough because she was too scared. Nothing about any of the ships are good. Christine was wayy in one her head too consumed by grief and blinded by what she thought was a normal caretaker love that she didn't stop to assess if any of her loves were normal. With Erik she was too hypnotized. With Raoul she was the saved damsel very Nightingale esque with Meg she saw her as a confidant and friend but not enough to say what was going on in her life.

All your ships are problematic so ship them all and don't hate on them unless you're going to analyze your own ship too. Ugh. Tired of the discourse.
