Hansrylings to feed
printers behave like that because the medieval monks they put out of work are haunting them
like, okay, i'm sure this scene has been talked about and dissected to pieces already in this fandom but. BUT. i need to put my two cents in or i will explode.
so, your lord and best friend has just admitted to you that if you die, he will be so beside himself with grief that he might just die too.
the game then gives you THIS option in response.
and you, the player, know how video games work. you know this is the press x for romance button. you expect henry to admit his feelings—a culmination of all the hints he's dropped from the heart options we've chosen before—and kiss him as soon as the button's been pressed.
except henry doesn't kiss hans.
instead, henry places his hand on hans' hand. it's the first moment of physical contact between them in the whole scene...but it's not a kiss. it's gentle. it's intimate. it's tiptoeing the line between comforting a friend and something more...
...but henry leaves it at that. and he gets up and goes to leave.
and in that moment of panic. in that split second of 'this might be the last time i'll ever see you again, please don't go' — it's hans that kisses henry.
and it's henry who pushes hans away.
this is—for all intents and purposes—the opposite of what we, the player, chose.
and to add insult to injury, henry looks conflicted.
he looks SO conflicted that hans believes he's fucked up royally.
that he has completely tarnished their final moments together by acting on impulse—by giving into temptation and desperation and feelings he can't even put into his own words—and henry must be disgusted by him.
and hans believes this because he watches henry turn his back to him. refusing to look at him. and head for the door.
but henry stops before he opens it. and i keep thinking back to the heart option we chose.
the player is not making the choice for henry to kiss hans. we are not forcing his hand.
the player is reminding henry what he's been telling himself throughout the entire game.
don't run away, henry.
kiss him. kiss him back.
so henry does.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to post the 4th image for, heh, adult reasons. So if you'd like to see it, you'll have to find it in the fic ;3
"Nightcap" - Part 6 (END)
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Henry settles in for sleep, in surroundings both familiar and unfamiliar, comfortable and uncomfortable. Goodnight, lads. I hope you're not too desperately hungover in the morning.
Well, there you go! That was Nightcap. To everyone who followed along, wow thank you so much! This was totally new territory for me in a ton of ways: I've never made a fan comic before, completed pages in batches, or posted for an online audience. You guys have been so nice!
I wrote the script back in March and then sat on it because I was like "I can't set aside a full month of my time to draw a hansry comic that's not even explicitly romantic, like get real." Well! It took me two months, and I'm glad I did it. I really, really enjoyed the process and kind of want to just keep going, all other life obligations be damned.
I also just wanted to make this as a little love letter to everything I enjoy about the KCD1 Hansry dynamic, because, man, I adore these guys. I really do. I love their laddish foolishness, their petty arguments, their affection, their station-defying, boundary-pushing friendship. I love the ways in which they take each other's weird behavior in stride and the ways they get caught off-guard:
For Hans, it’s Henry’s impertinence (which is both aggravating and refreshing), but also the simple, sincere way in which he offers his friendship.
For Henry, it’s Hans' erratic behavior (which is both aggravating and refreshing), but also the fierceness of his generosity, praise, and affection.
I'm really proud of this one and glad I got to share it with you all. I'd love to make a KCD2-centric comic eventually or something with Tess (I have scripts written for both), but I really actually do have to tend to my real life (boo hiss).
"Nightcap" - Part 5
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | End
Well, Henry. It seems like it's definitely time to head out now....right?
...right?
Back when my partner and I were in college, one of our good friends would sometimes invite himself to crash in our room after a night of drinking. He'd come wandering in from whatever party he’d been at, we'd have a nightcap and talk, and then we’d put him to sleep on the floor, or in our cranky roommate’s bed (if he was gone for the weekend), or even in bed with us. Kind of a toughie in a dorm twin bed, but when you're hammered many things are possible and more often than not, we were all pretty drunk.
When you're in that headspace (pleasantly inebriated), sometimes it can be easier to extend those kinds of offers for simple intimacy and to receive them, to have a night together that doesn't have to end when you go to sleep. Not everything is good about being twenty, but I miss those kinds of Saturday nights.
Anyways, I wanted to capture a similar feeling here with Henry and Hans. So much of their relationship to me is about what should be simple, but cannot be. And about what, despite everything, is. Like an offer to stay overnight in a friend’s room and the question of whether or not to accept it. Does that make sense? I hope so.
There's just one part left! Thanks for reading.
"Nightcap" - Part 4
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 5 | End
Just when it seems like the night is winding down, it's Henry's turn to be thrown a curveball.
I went back and forth on what the dialogue should be here, and whether or not to make Henry self-effacing. He can definitely be a braggart, especially when he's been drinking!
But one of the purposes of this story is to underscore that, though time has passed since the hunt (and he's killed Runt since he has the room in the Pirkstein bailey), this a Henry who is still very much on unsure footing wrt his identity as a soldier.
Besides, the main purpose of this comic is an attempt to encapsulate his changing dynamic with Hans! So I chose to emphasize Hans' growing tendency to heap praise on his blacksmith's boy in contrast to his initial dismissive attitude. Maybe just imagine Henry got all the boasting out of his system at the tavern earlier, and, at this late hour, in this private place, is letting his guard down a little.
Anyways, thanks, as always, for reading. See you next week!
"Nightcap" - Part 3
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4 | Part 5 | End
🌝*Reputation Gained*
One Sir Hans Capon, Lord of Pirkstein, allows himself to be caught off guard by a dung-grubbing buffoon with a black eye and wine smeared on his face.
Only two pages this week to give this beat a moment to breathe, but there will be probs 4 next week.
"Nightcap" - Part 2
Part 1 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | End
Changing pace and tone from sad nighttime to drunken bullshittery nighttime. Time has passed and the dynamic has shifted, but they're still pushing each other's buttons (and Hans is still deeply annoying).
Trying to replicate Henry and Hans' banter, especially when they're hammered, was extremely fun. Hans in particular often has this clipped, barking quality to his speech in KCD1, which, combined with the way he slurs his words when drunk, makes for bizarre line delivery that was enjoyable to try and capture with speech balloons. Thanks again for reading! See you next week.
"Nightcap" - Part 1
Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 |End
So we all agree that at some point in KCD1 Henry starts sleeping in Hans' bedroom in Pirkstein castle, right? The game itself at least heavily implies it, since Hans doesn't consider it trespassing and the epilogue starts with Henry being woken in up in Hans' room.
I love that and I love everything about Henry and Hans' weird, intense, inappropriate, affectionate friendship in KCD1, so here's my personal, comic interpretation of how that sleeping arrangement came to be.
But first, we have to start at the start. Feeling deeply alone and deeply irritated by this arrogant asshole you're being forced to spend time with.
I'm going to try and upload this in installments of roughly six pages every Friday. Let's see if I can meet that mark! Thanks in advance for reading, this is the first time I've ever done something like this, but I just adore these losers too much to not.
STEEL BALL RUN x BLAZING SADDLES
yes we have many beautiful gyjofications of brokeback mountain but what about the other gay cowboy movie where they do get to ride off into the sunset together. i love this movie. the costuming is superb. the jokes are superb. cleavon little and gene wilder, superb. surprisingly aged very well, considering.
in this specific scene, little’s smile literally blinds me and blows me away so i had to draw it w my faves. gyro gets silver grills just because.

another unexpected symptom of terminal kcd syndrome is that for the first time in my life i have actually completed writing a fanfic...... i now use this newfound power to write innocuous one-shots like the one i just posted where hans and henry roll around in the mud in the most literal sense possible
