Now that Steven Universe: Unleash the Light is available on consoles and Steam, we’re planning to share more Behind the Scenes looks at character concepts and the design process! Here’s some Peridot art we previously shared on our twitter account. Peridot is easily one of our favorite characters we’ve ever included in any of our games, and she was brought to life with fun and lively sketches and poses by our Art Director, Justin Booth! You can see Peridot’s old Save the Light design in the top left, showing how much we’ve updated the style between games. Early on in pre-production we also explored giving her something new to wield in battle… and for a brief while, that just so happened to be a giant wrench.

We were quite fond of Peridot’s builder moveset from STL, but still wanted to challenge ourselves to design a brand new moveset in UTL. Enter: …Robonoids! At one point Peri could access ‘noid upgrade trees mid-battle and transform them into different types (healer, Star Point generator, etc) We were incredibly lucky to have Shelby Rabara still provide new VO for Peridot (and another secret char…) despite lockdown during the height of Covid. She wow’d us with another wonderful performance while recording from home! We hope you’ve enjoyed Peridot in the game as much as we enjoyed adding her!
