❝We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it all the time is love.❞
Widow's Bay 1.10, "We Hope You Enjoyed Your Time!" I dir.Hiro Murai
Other actors: "I want to branch out."
Hamish Linklater: "I want to corner the fuck out of the tiniest possible market."
"Whimsy" is truly a wretched term. What maketh thee so carefree?
thy mother
Art thou for fucking real
Also people being obsessed with Greek mythology as kids wasn’t invented by Percy Jackson. My dad read the Iliad and the odyssey in high school because one of his friends was super obsessed with Ancient Greek lit and he was like “well I can’t let him be smarter and more well read than I am I’ve gotta catch up”
psa
no one fucking tells you this so here it is:
when signing out forms to apply for disability / filling out a form for diagnosis
you’re supposed to fill it out as you on your worst days
like, I filled out forms that said I could do most things usually
like, my doctor added in the conditions like “yeah, they can feed themselves when not stressed” “they can do this when not stressed”
but how I should have filled it out was more like
“some days I can’t feed myself” “some days I can’t leave the house”
My doctor didn’t even know this, but I talked to someone who had worked with people with both developmental and intellectual disabilities for a number of years, and she told me to write down how it is for your bad days
this should be a thing they tell you, but it isn’t
part of the reason I didn’t get my autism diagnosis as soon as I should have is because I filled out forms wrong!
This also goes for filling out forms for disabled parking rights. I’ve been rejected multiple times for a pass cause I didn’t find this out till recently.
Also you’re generally supposed to fill it out as you are without help.
That throws me too. Because the more help I get, the more capable I get. It’s easy to forget what happens when the help falls away even partially let alone completely.
I had no idea that when it comes to these things, you’re supposed to go by what your disability does to you on your worst days.
I’ve always watered mine down because I’ve always felt I wasn’t “disabled enough” since I CAN get through a day with minimal to no help….but it’s not until I get a really bad CPTSD flareup (which not so fun fact, can actually make you physically hurt or sick) when I remember why I’m trying to get accommodations (like a service dog) in the first place.
Damn, this is eye opening. Maybe I should try and apply again, I applied based on an average. Like “I’m able to do X slightly more days than I’m not able to if you took the average of all my days” But yeah I have quite a few days where I need a lot of help too.
Thanks for telling me
It’s tricky when you have a condition that’s unpredictable and can affect you on various levels. It doesn’t help that society likes to point fingers and go “well if you don’t feel your worst every single day/are up and down then you’re not disabled enough”.
Conditions like CPTSD are unpredictable, and it doesn’t always take a trigger for me to have a panic attack or for my body to suddenly start cramping up. I’ve had days where I can’t leave the apartment, I’ve had days where I’ve been able to run around and do errands without a problem and I’ve had days where I spend part of work feeling crappy and the other part feeling fine, because things like cptsd don’t run on a schedule :’D
And I’ll admit this is really hard as someone who really denied that I was disabled for the longest time, but eventually reached a point where I was forced to face the facts.
personally I'm annoyed by the socioeconomic conditions that made words like "unalive" necessary but simultaneously impressed by the linguistic adaptations young people have made to continue talking about important things while subject to those conditions and I think if you can't hold both of those thoughts in your head you might just be old man yelling at cloud
why do so many freaks go right to “there should be exams or tests before you have kids” when the real solution is better social services, robust infant and child development education that is accessible both financially and schedule/distance accommodating, and resources throughout any stage of a child’s life. genuine question like did you think about any social development before going straight to eugenics
"teens are prone to tantrums and are emotionally unstable" - okay, yeah, puberty is real, and emotional regulation is a difficult skill to learn. but also. any adult person would be pissed if their opinions were disregarded, they had no say in what happens to them, their emotions and feelings were downplayed and their privacy were intruded on.
look, i work at a morgue, i get to see every day how withered and small bodies can get when someone was sick. it’s awful. do you know how bone-thin a leg can get. or how a stomach really looks beneath the ribs when it’s wasted away. the way people’s eyes and cheeks press in to their skull like they’re clinging on for dear life. they died like that, and you want to try and sell me a lie, a pill, a miracle cure that’ll make me live in that state? that’ll make my friends look like that, my family, the people i love? to see corpses in them?
this job makes me appreciate all the more bodies lived in and well-loved. please eat that second serving. please give yourself treats as much as you want. life is not long enough to suffer through it. you’ll be plenty skinny when you’re dead.
whenever people talk about regret irt medical transition and top surgery especially i always think of an older cis(ish) butch woman who was always quick to tell anyone she saw binding about how she did it for decades because of severe dysphoria and how she absolutely wrecked her back and now in her old age couldnt comfortably bind anymore but also had other like unrelated health and aging issues that meant she no longer felt safe with the risk of surgery besides what she already needed. and basically that she was put off from surgery because of stupid ftm butch border wars and narratives about regret and unnecessary cosmetic surgeries and what she always told those ppl binding was that they should get surgery as soon as possible and not risk another year of binding and developing back pain or risk the possibility being taken away from them. loved that diva down but every interaction with her was so thoroughly colored by the deep regret she felt at not pursuing transition. that's the kind of regret and longing i think about and worry about irt medical transition far far more than regrets about doing the transitioning in the first place ykwim
