This was the last week of calm before all the students come back. My 52frames.com assignment was shooting in black and white (although I didn’t stick with the project 100%). The cold made me less than eager to walk around with my camera, but I did venture out one day with Amanda, who is always a good sport about posing and tolerating my crazy photo projects.

It was the first week back to work after the holidays and also the first snowfall of the year. Unfortunately, the temp also dropped to about 10 degrees. I went for a walk on campus and was so cold I couldn’t feel my fingers on the camera. And so I ended up with two speedy campus shots.

A few days later, inspired by this week’s 52frames.com theme, I experimented with fast shutter speed. Somehow I couldn’t find a model willing to let me throw a glass of water in his face, so instead I shot the running tap.

‘Tis not the most auspicious start to my photo project, but I remain undaunted!

52 Weeks of Photos

This year I’m kicking off a 52-week photo project. Having done a daily photo project in the past, I’m ready for something with a bit less pressure. Some of my inspiration will come from 52frames.com, but the only “rule” I’m going to follow is to post whatever random assortment of photos I’ve taken during the week.

I got a camera for Christmas! I’ve been camera-less for almost an entire year since giving up my former employer’s Nikon D7000 when I moved on to a new job. Yesterday I walked around a bit near Scott Boulevard to test it out.

Several weeks ago I went to the Winston Churchill Museum in Fulton, Missouri. Even if you have no interest in Churchill, the museum is top-notch. You can learn all about Churchill’s unexpected visit to Fulton in the 1950s, where he gave his famous Iron Curtain speech. Next to the museum is a piece of the Berlin Wall, and the museum itself sits below a Christopher Wren church that was brought over from London and reassembled piece by piece in Fulton.

365/365: Happy New Year! And so this 2015 Photo-a-Day project comes to an end... I began this project exactly one year ago to better acquaint myself with the camera I use at my job as an online high school multimedia specialist. It's never been my intention to be a professional photographer, and as you can see, I am definitely not! While this was supposed to be a fun way to learn a new camera, there were many days where it was NOT fun at all. As with any daily project, the pressure is on to get a photo at any cost--even if it's 11:00 at night, and you're photographing the clothes in your closet out of desperation. Still, because of this project, I've become more comfortable with my Nikon, explored nooks and crannies of the university on foot, met awesome and inspiring photographers through Tumblr, and yes, enjoyed making something creative and putting it out there. Thank you to all of you who followed this project, liked my photos, and commented. Your support means the world to me!
