Here's why planting round trees in square holes makes the trees stronger and thrive faster than if you plant them in round holes.
Horrible thought: If many plants have evolved to entice other creatures to eat parts of themselves, and basically want to be eaten, and they mainly reproduce through that method, does this mean that being into vore is just the standard for them?
IDK. Does it actually turn them on, or is it purely pragmatic?
The question is, do we want to know?
Herbs you can grow indoors.
Made this list for my fellow witchies who like their kitchen to be full of the green stuff :
Basil : like lots of sun and warmth. More difficult to grow in the winter months
Bay : needs plenty of sun and fresh air.
Chives : needs at least 6 hours of sun and plenty of water.
Dill : prefers slightly acidic soil, needs plenty of sunlight, doesn’t need too much water.
Lemongrass : My personal favorite as you don’t plant it in soil. Grow in a couple of inches of water. Easiest to grow.
Mint : needs plenty of water and needs to be placed in an area with indirect light. Harvest frequently.
Oregano : does not deal well with cold and drastic temperature changes could kill it.
Parsley : Doesn’t require too much light or maintenance, but is a slow grower.
Rosemary : needs 6 - 8 hours of strong, direct sunlight. Only water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Needs good ventilation. A bit trickier to grow.
Sage : Needs plenty of sun.
Thyme : Needs 6 - 8 hours of sunlight a day and maybe even supplemental light.

ohhhhohohhoo now THIS is a treat……a case of dumb plant syndrome revealing a forbidden truth……
you see. strawberries are not botanical berries. they’re technically what’s called accessory fruits, meaning that in this case the ‘berry’ part is just an enlarged receptacle. the actual fruits are called achenes, which are the little yellow speckles on the outside of each strawberry and are generally dry, indehiscent, and only contain one seed per fruit (sunflower seeds are a more obvious achene example).
(the above was the best pic i could find showing roughly how the hell this happens, but i’m also going to put this one here because it reads like the strawberry is being publicly shamed for its achene crimes and i think thats hilarious)
so in terms of The Forbidden One up there….either:
1. a mutation or infection confused the the plant and it freaked out and made leaves where fruit was supposed to go (which, to be fair, big mood) or
2. something Happened™ and all the fruits germinated waaaaayyyy earlier than they were supposed to. i….dont have much knowledge about like, strawberry seedlings, but after a brief google search it seems like if they’re all germinating at once they are not like, turning out like normal seedlings. on one hand i suppose this kind of makes sense because holy shit the entire situation like…is NOT normal to begin with, but on the other hand option 1 fits a little better. still, cutting it open would probably give the answer (if it has roots it’s 2, if it doesn’t it’s 1).
on a related note i fucking love plants, man. like. ‘make leaf where fruit go’ followed by casually making leaves where fruit would go is such just like…a plant thing to do. in animals ‘make arm where baby go’ followed by actually making the arm would be absolutely devastating in terms of bodily function, but for this strawberry plant its just like. look at this. its just photosynthesizing. like this plant has fully accepted that it just has new leaves now and has already moved on. like. our soft animal brains could never
Thank you for the science behind the mutant I found a few years ago. I still find it unsettling though…

Mild exposure to herbicides can cause this, too!
“Yes! A garden metaphor! I love the garden metaphor! I just love ‘em!”
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with that.
Hopefully my plants like it, too.
Environment ministry stops short of decreeing outright ban
“Basically, I think we just need to be a little less tidy and a little more tolerant of ‘weeds’ and I think insects and therefore lots of other species would benefit.”
Interesting read, as a kid I wondered if the leafblower noise hurt any critters within the leaves…
also just in general stop removing fallen leaves from places where there is soil, fallen leave help keep the ground warm in the fall n winter which helps more bugs and fungi carry on durring those times, leaves are susposed to fall cover the ground, insulate it, and rot back into soil for spring plants
when you rake up and leaf blow away your leaves youre not only depleating your yard of vital nutrients and preventing it from creating new top soil but youre ruining lots of bugs and microfauna chances at over wintering
For some reasonI only hear Wade Wilson aka Deadpool saying this. Like imagine be has a personal garden somewhere in the Xmen mansion and he literally only visits to take care of it and one day he comes by only to see that this GODDAMN CATERPILLAR ATE HALF THE PEPPER PLANT😂
I PICKED FOUR OF THESE ASSHOLES OFF OF MY TOMATO. AND THEN WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER, I GOT GRASSHOPPERS.
Oh gods, cracked up.
Okay where do caterpillars grow this big

Three Sisters
This slightly more traditional mural depicts the traditional “three sisters” of indigenous agriculture: corn, beans and squash. Beautifully rendered by TIKAY and ANER, you can find it near Dundas and Brock in Toronto.
[Today I Learned] A lightning strike can strip the bark off a tree completely.
The reason for this is, when the lightning hits it super heats the water under the bark, creating nearly instantaneous steam pressure. Which blows all the bark off.

GARY! GARY I JUST SHAVED MY TRUNK, COME FEEL.
bob, you’re dying.
FEEEEEEEEEL.
Rosemary is not a separate species of plant after all — it is a sage, the Royal Horitcultural Society (RHS) has ruled as they tell gar
This is really interesting, both scientifically and metaphysically. People have used rosemary for ritual cleansing for a long time and I’m curious about this from an angle of “it’s also a sage and has historical precedent, so please stop appropriating Native practices.” I’d love to hear others’ thoughts!
The saga of mushroom radish: germinated with a mutation that prevented it from growing true leaves, but overcame the odds and successfully made a radish anyways!
