Consoles I'll (eventually) collect for once I actually have money
This is less a definite list and more of a ramble to help my thought process. I've already listed my "definite consoles" on some other post, hence why there is no PSVita as that's my next console that I'm gonna buy to complete the 8th generation quadology of PS4, PSVita, WiiU and 3ds (xbox one is very lame and will never be in my collection). I should also add that I'm both a PC and console gamer: games meant for PC play on my PC (like the sims and valve games) as that feels right, but I prefer playing games on console too if it's better fit for the controller and TV combo.
It's a cube! And it's purple!
There's some good 1st party stuff on here as well as the sonic mega collection (meaning I don't need to invest in a mega drive aside from echo the dolphin) and chibi robo, although I think chibi robo is still really expensive (and hard to find on ebay cause zip lash keeps popping up instead).
Dreamcast is one of those consoles that's full of niche games you only really know if you're in the know. Jet set radio is the big one for me, it looks so cool! And the sonic adventures and maybe shenmue and phantasy star online (if that'll even work nowadays) idk I haven't actually looked into the dreamcast's games that deep but it's a really cool console so I'd love to have it as part of my collection.
(I'm not sure what the pal region saturn looks like so I just picked my favourite design for the picture)
It has nights into dreams and that's all I really know about the game library. I know a lot on the saturn on it's historical stuff, but I don't know much in regards to the actual games. There's sonic jam but I think it'll be weird if I had 2 sonic complation games.
Bit on the fence as there's some good games as well as niche stuff but a lot of them have been ported to PS4 Or PSVita. GTA IV is a 7th gen exclusive and that's all I really know. The original model I've heard is more of a pain to maintain but damn is it sexy...
Specifically the ones with the coloured joy cons.
Yeah I'm a game collector and I don't even have a Switch. I spent most of that generation bitching about it and have only recently learned the concept of critical thinking. It's gonna get discontinued any day now but the prices (at least if you buy online) haven't dropped at all which is very weird to me. The main one I want is the new tomodachi life game, but the second hand market hasn't had a chance yet so I think I'll wait. There's some other games that seem interesting too (even if a lot of them have versions on the WiiU or are just like poyo poyo tetris 2s). I'll keep an eye out to see if any retailors are gonna be doing some big sales to get rid of the stock once it is discontinued. Joy con drift is making me really worried though.
This is soely because I think it would be funny to have a pink GBA micro and only have GTA advance as a cartrige.
I am a playstation fangirl first and foremost, but the original xbox is cool as hell and has halo (although I don't think the servers are still up). I know there's a port of conkers bad fur day on here and that's all I really know about specific games. Yeah I kinda want it mostly because it looks cool.
I don't have or care to have a 4K TV, nor do I really play games where the extra processing power would be handy. It looks sexy and has astro bot and that's all. If it drops down to a good price second hand then I'll pick it up but my god it's still like £400 after 6 years, both new and second hand.
Unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the look of the original DS over the lite and i. It's so early 2000s and bulky that I can't help but think it's cool. The 3ds can play DS games fine but idk it'll be neat to have for like historical sake or something.
This is sorta in the middle cause it's not something I want as much as the PSVita currently, but it's also not something I'm on the fence about like the ones above. There's some 8 and 16 bit games I wanna check out but I don't care enough to invest in an actual console and all that matinence and stocking up on cartriges, and this can be homebrewed too. I asked on reddit earlier today actually and yeah, I could play snes games on my WiiU but it's not the same. The WiiU is for WiiU and Wii games. To me, microconsoles are in this middle ground where they feel better for the subconsious compared to emulation devices or using a computer, but not up there with the original. Yeah I could get more games on an emulation device with a controller from a 3rd party like 8bitdo, but that wouldn't feel right to me. Maybe in the future I'll pick up an actual snes but I'm not as passionate about 1st-5th gen games than I am about 6th gen and above so I feel like I'd have to justify a purchase like that.
Anyway, I'm not like a hardcore collector (yet) who has every console known to man and a basement to hold all the games, but I do want to have a decent collection. Although I think it'll be best to develop my PS4 and WiiU collection first and then work my way back because I'm primarily still an 8th gen gamer as modern tech sucks and I'm stubborn. Not to mention in about 6 years time, the PS4 is gonna shoot up in price once people my age turn 30 and have money and stuff for nostalgia purchases so it's best to collect now while the PS5 is making PS4 games cheap due to near obselecence, but studios are still making PS4 ports of PS5 games because of people like me who don't want to fork over a kidney for the console that needs a blu ray player installed from the PS store instead of it just being built in from the get go like the previous 2 consoles.
